Big ups to Ollie for working on his rolls :arms: . To bad we were riding without helmets, even worse it looks like O busted his ear drum.
Next time we know, even if the gulf is in full mill pond effect we need ear protection. :banghead:

Yep, I am f'n pissed. Blame it all on Wavedemon. He was stoking the fire. He was getting 3/4 of the way round on small boat wakes. Watch out Butti. O'l Demon is gonna roll that Blast-up on the next surf day.
Mine is not that painful. It did not bleed. But is def. ruptured. The most annoying part is it sounds like I have my head in a bucket.
Wear a Condom!! WAIT!!! This aint the herpes post.
I mean wear a helmet!!

Hey O, there's a depression starting today. find something to pack in your ear by next weekend.
Sorry about stoking the fire stuff, I guess I could learn how to turn on my SJ so as not to pressure you into injury. :crutches: j/k

You are supposed to stoke the fire. That is the whole idea.
I guess you thought you were supposed to hang around so I had something to do with my tow rope.
Edwin- I'll see what I can swing next weekend. I am not willing to cancel it yet. Let me talk to the doc and then ignore what he (or she) says.

As I was leaving Phill's house yesterday, I heard his neighbor comment "Hey, I got some swimmer's ear stuff, I'll bring it over."
Big mistake, apparently. Phill said he rolled around on the floor for a while after that.

defiately get the antibiotics... It's very important that you don't get the inner ear infected.. that can lead to lots of problems

Big mistake, apparently. Phill said he rolled around on the floor for a while after that. Swim ear is like 99% isopropal alchohol. I bet it hurt like hell. I almost made that mistake until i read the bottle. I busted mine at the start of the season. It does take a while to get the hearing back which to me was the worst part after the pain went away.

Looks like I am cool. The tear happened where I have scar tissue from when I was a kid.
Good news:I should have my hearing back in two weeks.
Bad news: It will prob happen again even with helmet + plugs.
Saki- I will probably still ride next weekend.

What does that mean? is it just the pressure of being underwater that causes them to burst?

Worst pain ever... Im suprised you didnt see that post a few weeks ago. X-jetter and I both did that mistake... Welcome to the club Phil and Demon!:highhorse:

it won't hurt you phisically to get water in there, but it can cause an infection... That's why I got the antibiotics... I just flushed the hell out of my ear after riding... (even w/ plugs some water will get in there)
My setup was this...
I would fill my ear w/ antibiotics, then cram one of the spongy yellow plugs in there (really deep) and then I would put the wax plugs over the entire ear canal... it would seal pretty good and the antibiotics would kinda keep the salt water from doing too much to the ear...

Hey how long does a busted ear drum take to heal up?
It stopped hurting a long time ago but there is still pressure.
The last few days the pressure has gotten worse...still does not hurt but is somewhat uncomfortable....

be careful, if the skin heals up before the infection leaves... POP!!!! the pressure will blow the ear drum again. Thats how kids blow out eardrums from ear infections... it's pretty painful till the eardrum blows, then it's like a huge relief...

MAN, its been said before on here about "Swimear" and I made the mistake to use that shiat in my ear when i perforated the drum. It was the most pain I've ever felt. It felt like someone was shoving a sharp. long, thin knife in my ear!:banghead:

I suggest that after you're healed up you get fitted for a custom earplug or at least buy some of the wax earplugs they sell at the drug store. Break the wax into a small piece and stick it into your ear canal and it will stay put. Some water will still probably get past it but it will protect from the concussion of a 3/4 roll.
I blew my eardrum out about 5 years ago and have since had 3 unsuccessful surgeries to fix it. They basically had to cut my ear 1/2 way off and try to graft tissue onto the perforation. Mine was an edge tear, which is the worst kind to get since there is nothing for them to graft on to to fix the hole. I now have a permanently broken ear drum and minor hearing loss. This means that I also get ear infections if I ride in murky water and constantly have a bunch of nasty ear wax in one ear.
P.S. - Don't ever ever ever put rubbing alcohol in your ear after you break it. You will end up laying on the floor screaming and wishing for death. I know this from personal experience.
