St. Augustine Guys: Where can I weigh my ski?
I was doing some prep for footwells, removed turf, rail pads etc... and was removing glue residue when I found some cracks in the tray. One looks almost circular (like its over a pump anchor) the other runs along the exhaust side corner.
The ski floats, but I don't know any other way to know for sure how much water got in.
Thanx in advance,
Dan

lol,,,,,,smart asses, I've never caught a 300 lb fish. Maybe some marina? Maybe a feed mill? I don't think a truck scale would be sensative enough. Vets have to weigh horses?

i have a game scale we used before but people seem to have good luck with bathroom scales too.i wouldnt sweat it though.just put some drains in the rear and fix the tray when u put in the footholds.give me a shout if you need a hand or have questions.

Slutty is going to help with holds and get turf etc... But thanx and we still may call ya'!

O.K. here's how I figure it:
1/2 tank of fuel= 15#
battery= 10#
water in water box & engine compartment= 4#
fire extinguisher= 5#
Total=34#
total actual weight=347# - 34 = 313# (approx)
sj stock dry weight = 291#
22# heavy or approx 3 gal of water.
What do y'all think? Can I drain it (as Butti said)? If I cut the foothold holes and maybe drill a hole down near the exhaust will it drain or dry out?
Is the only solution re-foam?

if you really want to lighten it up, and are down with the re-foam job then get it all stripped out and use polystyrene

reinforce the tray, add drains and you'll NEVER have a problem again

check out the threads for Matt_e's build, or WAB's (he used plastic bottles)

the crappy part of a foam job is the removal....I have a coouple of tools that will really help you out if you decide to commit

man, I did'nt even know drains were an option.
I could just leave the ski alone, and go on a diet. I could stand to lose 22#!

honestly...I wouldnt even worry about the foam..unless your ski drips a puddle of water on the garage floor out of a rideplate bolt or something

I refoamed a ski once.....it didnt save that much weight, I'd bet you dollars to donuts thats there is water in the tray as of now again...

It was done properly, sealed with 5200 etc etc......they just leak!

add holds and turf, and put your glassing supply money towards a pipe

here is a pic of what mine looked like inside.....:dead1:

I was hoping you would say something like that. I'm not excited about defoaming. I mean, is it worth it over 22 lbs? Maybe less. Other mods, bars, intake grate, ride plate etc... all heavier than stock.
Can I really put drains in? I guess I've been under a rock or something!

refoaming is not worth it unless you ski is in real bad shape.yhey handle better heavy anyways

O.K, then no defoam, yes to drains. When we cut for holds I'll get a better look
Thanx to all for the info.

went to watcon.com. found the drains. The photo is horrible. Have you installed yours or are they stock on the octane?

Waiting to hear from Nick. I drilled out the bottom rivet on the exhaust exit flange and got minimal water. I guess I'll be riding my wifes ski this weekend.
Ordered drains for a '93 blaster from Riva, but the foam seems to be holding the water, or, there's really not that much in there.
Have all materials for foothold install. (except turf & pad which Nick ordered )
Tray is prep'd & ready to cut.
Found a loose pump anchor, which actually caused one of the cracks in the tray. Cut out above it and ready to epoxy it back in. I figured I'd wait and do all epoxy work at once. All glass work at once as well.
Got foam at the Marine Supply & Oil Co. on Riberia. Literally 1/2 the price of West Marine. I'll get some more epoxy resin there as well. (I learned that you should'nt put polyester resin over epoxy resin) and I'm not even sure what I currently have.
Just waitin' to hear from Slutty.
