I'm a complete noob with jet skis. I just purchased a 1988 650 SX project ski. I'm stripping it down to the hull and starting over. I can't figure out how to get the pump and drive shaft out. I've got a manual on the way but would like to get going on this as summer is on it's way. I couldn't find anything by searching except SJ stuff. I don't think mine's the same. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Simple, unbolt pump, unhook hoses to it and pull like crazy. If it won't budge you need to cut the silicone holding it in. Driveshaft comes out after the motor is out.

The front of the drive shaft has a coupler on it. Does that come off so it can slide backward? My motor is already out.

No, out the engine bay.

The drive shaft isn't connected to the pump at all? It should stay in place while I pull the pump out the back?

Not connected, just splines in the prop.

So it's just corrosion holding it. Thanks a lot.

New problem. My impeller won't turn in the pump hardly. It looks like there's corrosion between the pump and wear ring. Is there any fix for this or do I just need a new one?

Swollen pump liner, time for another pump or send your out for a fix.

Who fixes them? It's probably cheaper to pick one up off here?

I got an extra pump including scoop for about $80 shipped.

Buy used parts off of fellow board members, way more honest and will usually cut peeps some deals to get them back on the water!
