Freestylefest 2009!

Freestylefest will be held on Sept. 19th-20th. The 19th will be on Ipperwash beach in Canada. The 20th will be at bolles harbor in Monroe, Mi. (aka the hothole).

For those that dont know, the Hothole is a small area of water that the powerplant empties there cooling water into. This keeps it unseasonably warm through cold weather. This is usually the last chance to ride in Michigan.

Im pretty sure that by Sept. anyone trying to cross the Canadian/US border will need a passport. So if you would like to attend both days of the ride, try to get one.


Like many years past this event is for the riders by the riders. Ive always felt the dealers and manufactures need a break from sponsoring events. So Freestylefest is all about meeting new people, talking about riding and maybe learning from the experienced. and above all... having fun.

Any new ideas about this event are more than welcome! please send them to me via pm. There were ideas in the past to do contests... Im sure there will be a couple boats at the hothole for us all to try the double boat wake! its extremely fun.

I don't want to be a kill joy, but how does everyone feel about keeping alchohol off the water, and save it for after the riding is finished this year. After last years turnout I think this would be a step in the right direction to bring many more people back to FSF and keep it fun and safe for everyone involved.

I agree, after seeing all the alcohol and people going out with no vest/helmet after drinking and trying backflips, I don't plan on returning, and I'm one of the founders of the ride.

It's 10 hours, with 3 kids, plus the border crossing, for 5 people.

I've never been to the Canadian side actually, we went with our oldest one time when she was like 2 maybe for a different ride.

What I was saying is that wasn't Freestylefest, it was just a ride, we spent a couple of days up there. It was 2003.

Thank you kahuna! I am working on a couple boats for double up. So we have our own people that will go the speed we want and be aware of jetskiers. I just dont trust joe shmo with a boat to look out for us.

I'm in for Ipperwash Canada.

FYI- I picked up a Canada Card for $45 as opposed to a passport which is $90 (you need a passport photo for both). I believe you must have either to cross the Canadian border. So get on it now, I know they are bombarded with last minute applicants.

2 questions. Where do more people show up? The hot hole or Canada? And is there ever any surf?

Canada has a better chance of waves. Based on last year (about 15-20 attended), less people will attend the CDN day. Hot Hole has flatwater, and the slim chance of waves if the wind blows from the east. There's usually a good turnout on Sunday.

Sinking put a damper on my day. Almost lost the ski. It actually hit the bottom in about 6 feet of water. Luckily I tied myself to it, and saved it (thanks to a couple guys in a fishing boat).

I had an excellent time once again!! good people, good wakes, and even our cop buddys made it out again to say hi. Its always good seeing everyone and their rides! I know there were a few props that could have done without all the damn rocks that were on the west side of the pennisula(mine included). Lon if you go out there again soon dock the ski on the other side where its sandier and you shouldnt have a problem. I will be posting pics soon!
