View Full Version : Surf Mods Blaster 1 Hull?
Hi Jet

I'm looking at modding a spare hull for the surf. I recently saw a guy at my local boat ramp with two blasters with shortened hulls. He said it was necessary as they have a tendency to snap the tails off.
How much length should I remove? Do I cut the rear face out the glass it back in? Should I even do this?
Any help would be appreciated

im pretty sure you just cut off the rear lip, not actually shorten the hull.
if you leave it stock and give it a beating in the surf it will eventually rip the rear lip off the ski without reinforcement.

The hulls where shortened by about six inches. Looked like it had no boarding platform.

they're hard enough to climb on in surf as it is..why make it harder? ;) although it would probably make side mounting it easier.
my friend Casey filed in the rear rather than cutting it off...looks sick and works great

Yes the boarding would be harder, but I was going to compensate for this by making a boarding system from an rubber rope (so it would extend down when under tension, also would not get in the way of the thrust). I've been looking at what other people have done to there pole skis. The main issue I have with is weakening the hull. That's why I was thinking of cutting the rear face out of the hull then glassing it back in. As this area would be under a lot of compressive force when landing.
Keep the suggestions coming as two heads are better than one

Considering no one has heard of this being done before, I'd say it's not worth the effort. There are a number of blasters on this site that get ridden hard in the surf and stand up just fine with the normal mods to the transom.

Excellent info Dustin. Thanks
hi jet if you need to make a step to get on a blaster you should not be riding one in the surf.
the back needs to be reinforced . the top deck will pull off and cause the bottom to cave in. if you do it before you break it, it will last much longer. i can get 2 or 3 years out of a hull . (then the motor plate rips out and its over)
