I bought this ski a week and a half ago, completly stock minus a prop, rideplate, and intake grate. After finding some trashed reeds, i ordered new ones, and realizing i had a week to dick around with the ski, i started the modding...

Paint is Sunset Orange Metallic, off 96-02 Trans Am's, its a base coat/clear coat paint. I know its not perfect, but good enough for a ski

Footholds are homemade, i just carved the shape i wanted out of the foam, and added some more foam and carved more for the lip, then glassed. Siderail steps were also made of foam, then glassed over. Then i glassed up the factory vents in the hood, and cut out hand holds, i didnt know exactly where the best place for them was, so i just cut 6 holes...

Total cost:
Ski $900
Reeds/gaskets: $100
Used pipe from forum member $300
Milled head $40
Misc. parts $90
Home Depot $110
2 Sheets B-stock hydro-turf $40
$234 paint/paint supplies

Total: $1,814

Not bad considering this was all paid for by a parted out wrecked motorcycle that has been in my garage for a year.

NICE !

I like the turf on the hood idea, might steal it from you when I finish my spare hood.

Speaking of hoods, are you going to change the liner and add cups to the hand holds ??
Would suck if you sunk her on the very first ride.

Please do copy me...haha

Hmm...i wasnt planning on making buckets, i just figured the stock vents were there, why not hand holds...is it that easy to sink one like this? I'm planning on leaving my 500gph bilge on full time...

Look at the first picture in the "last 4", the one of the hood and pole.

You can look straight through the hand hold and see the stock liners breather tube.
Now just imagine the ski in the water on it's side or doing a fountain.
I would be worried.

You got the outside looking nice, now go and take care of the stuff inside.

just don't do a sub and you should be fine...otherwise you will end up like the titanic...seriously though, you should redo the liner with the buckets. Your ski will take on way too much water the way it is.

Ski looks awesome though...you did a great job and quick too!
I second the turf on the hood idea...very nice!

just noticed the side wings...they look funny! Hope they hold up for you. You should have lots of room to stand on those! Very Neat!

Hmm your probably right...lol...i guess i have another project for tonight before riding this weekend

And to tell you the truth...The turf-ed hood idea was my buddy Mark's idea, i didnt want to do it, but he talked me into it...now i really like it

I tell you what, I'm embarrassed seeing what you did in a week and a half.
I've been working on a hood for about 2 months, all I have done is ripped out the old liner and glassed over the stock air intakes.
Riding is taking up too much time.

I give you a serious BRAAAP !

Riding is taking up too much time.

That's your problem...haha your very motivated to work on the ski when you only have one to ride...and its in a million pieces in your garage.

How bout this...i leave the stock liner in, cut off the 3inch tubes from the inside...glass up the holes, and then cut air holes in the back of the hood...wouldnt this accomplish the same thing as the folks who make new liners?

How do people usually feed air into their engine comparments without getting too much water in too?

haha yeah i copied the Waterdawg x-jet on those...i hope they hold up too, ive stood on just one with all my weight and they seem to be pretty strong...they are about 10 layers of cloth, after i used the foam to glass over for the shape, i cut it all out and flipped the ski over, and glassed about 4 layers and plenty of resin in the what was now a cup...so...hopefully they will hold up, im thinking some bolts might be in order though...

looks real nice.

i like the turf on the nose instead of the black cover. how hard was that to do?

i just picked up a sheet of b stock and its pretty good stuff. i really don't think any thing is wrong with it.

The only place i could find ANY imperfections was about a 18 inch by 6 inch strip of bubbles on the underside...nothing was messed up on the top side. The two sheets i picked up were $40 with no shipping charges directly from Hydro-turf.

The turf on the nose was surprisingly easy to do...i cut the curved contour to follow the nose piece, then just pulled the crap out of it when i glued it down...The turf has some flexabilty to it, if you really pull on it

Looks awesome!!! I think I may have to steal that hood idea too lol.

So i capped off the stock tubes, with 90* thru hulls on them...then ran hose out the back of the hood with more thru hulls...then punched two 2 inch holes in the back of the hood for air...worked like a charm today with some deep subs, water drained right out the thru hulls, and not too much came out the bilge after the subs.

I did break a hand hold though riding around on the hood...more fiberglass to come on that i guess...damnit

Don't sweat it dude. I did the rail extension on my ski and love them. It give me a nice grip on the ski and I can really plant my feet on there for balancing the ski, really helps if the ski shuts off.
