lets see yours tricky. you can't build that many high hp motors without at least one catastrophic failure...

Not Again :scared:

I just curious, what kind of RPM are you turning on that engine?

Type of pipe, compression, octane fuel, jetting, ignition timing, dome cc's, squish clearance, etc?

That was 2 blow ups ago. What caused it was to much compressoin. it's being rebuilt again now.

I have had a couple, but this one was the bad one. Rod snaped on OEM crank @ WOT. 85mm flat top lamey ~200 psi. The complete bottom end was trash. I Repaired the cylinder and it is running again today.

Ahh....just change the o-rings....it'll be fine:biggrin: j/k

See what happens when you use OEM piston return springs?

come on matt E....we know you got some too!!!!!

right now I have a comeplete bench full of blown motors..will post some up tomorrow..

Eh, I knew someone was going to involve me in here. Let me look.
Okay, found it. This is disturbing...I had a folder setup for those types of pictures.

I think that might make a lean condition. better fatten up those carbs.

Hehe...that happened right after I ported & bored up my cylinders. In retrospect, I know exactly when that "oops" happened, but at the time, I Didn't know any better. I was trying to adjust the carbs to get that lean bog cured, but no amount of adjusting would change anything. ANd why was there a white miilky substance in the bilge? :aargh4:

Later that day....:17: :17: :17:

I was trying to adjust my carbs to fix my piston problem also. I finally checked the comression and got 5 in one and 80 in the other. :aargh4: :cussing:

You got any pics of the one Casey trashed at Lanier last fall?

Just for craps sake....how long did you wait to take that apart after the faliure? Just wondering how long it took for that rust to show?

One day---the motor was being used in salt water at the time of failure. I pulled it the following day.

The "pre-Protec" motor from my first Wammer boat (blue, black, and silver one). Nothing really special about it---2002 Superjet motor with head, pipe, and ignition.

So what happened there? Rod bearing decided to let go?

Yep---took the rod and crankcase (bottom half only) with it...

Best I could tell, the front seal failed, caused and air leak, and "BLAMMO!"

That motor, although a limited, seemed to have more than enough punch...:frown:

i had a 550 engine that got water in it, that water put a little extra pressure on the crank. it snapped right above the piston and put a nice hole throught cyclinder, hit the starter and broke that bracket. it was a while ago so i dont have any pics.

shelled crank bearing......cases and cyl survived...

i also have a HEAVIY ported X cyl that split the cooling jacket with good jugs left over..still trying to figure out what to do with that one...

my 701 was close to doing that too though... stock engine from 94 waverunner that was still running original pistons. I'd say I was a good ten minutes away from grenading it. Had 120 and 140 psi when tore apart.

the two pics are of the same piston, opposite sides of the intake skirt.

98 Gp1200, center rod broke and cut both case halves completly in half. Only part that connected the front to the rear was the crank and about a 1/4 of the read cage intake surface. Destroyed cases, crank cylinder, reed. I heard pieces of aluminum hit the inside of the hull when it blew. If you look close you can see the bottom of the hull through the gap.

LOL... Yeah, Donnie rebuilt the motor and got rid of the GP. He's a solid stand up guy now.

He's building a freestyle superjet http://teamxtremejetskiing.com/DonnieRoundnosebuildup.html

and his son races 13-15 junior stock and limited classes.

That motor put up with who knows how much abuse before it let go. Who says a triple cant live on 185lbs of compression on pump gas.

WaveDemon
02-22-2006, 11:30 AM
I don't know about triples but a twin can deal with 185 on pump gas.

Dunno what the go was here, but I think I might have had a blockage in the carb or something!

Cylinder is surprisingly good as all of the material went out the exhaust port.

I thought that way too right after I got my sxr which is on its 3rd rebuild and second cyl.! Just keep hanging out on this board you'll catch up, meanwhile get a digital camara and start practicing!!! Just kidding!
