Anybody on the Southbeach Diet plan?

I've been at it for 3.5 weeks and I have lost 8 lbs. I haven't even really worked out.

Its been great. Its not about portion control, calorie counting, etc. Its about eating the right kinds of fats and staying away from tons of starches, but still lets you indulge when you want to (in moderation of course).

I'd say the worst thing is that beer is the enemy. But I can drink red wine, so I'm okay with that.

ya, my wife and I are doing it together so I think it is something that we'll actually both be able to stick to. She's lost 12.5 lbs already also.

We've been eating really good meals too. She's been doing most of the cooking and we've eaten things I would never have thought to eat before.

But I will miss beer.

And I'm saving money. I used to eat out for lunch at work atleast 3-4 times a week. I have brought my lunch for 3.5 consecutive weeks. Nice to not see a whole bunch of small charges on my debit card.

Goal is 20 lbs from my beginning weight.

That is still about 10 lbs over the ideal weight for my height/build, but I think that is a good place to start.

ive been slightly dieting for a few weeks now.

no programs, no rules, just eat better, eat in better moderation, eat less "crap", exercise more, and stop eating out for lunch every day.

ive lost about 10lbs in the last 3 weeks so far, so, going well i think.

my total goal is 30lbs. i let myself slip WAY too much lately after my back got f'd up last year.

Done it and Atkins (and pretty much every diet out there).....you do lose weight very easily....but just be careful....because you don't do portion control, calorie counting, etc you can also gain it back (and more) quite easily if/when you venture off of the plan!!!

Also...I got a dang kidney stone from eating too much protein so make sure you eat lots of veggies and stuff!!! :skull2:

GOOD LUCK!!!!:Banane19:

yup, it is defiantly something you have to stick to... thats why I call it a lifestyle, not a diet.

I eat tons of veggies. atleast 5-6 servings a day.

I'm down 9 lbs since 1-1-09. I gave up all alcohol, and am avoiding sugar as much as possible. Swapped out regular pasta with the whole wheat with flax pasta from Trader Joe's. Slowly getting back into weight training. Most of my gut is gone, another 3-4 lbs and I'll be back in wetsuit shape.

It is amazing how much just eating at HOME helps with your weight (and your wallet).

I lost 15 lbs since right after thanksgiving. I'm 6'3" was 155 (highest ever). I have just been eating better. Staying away from drive thrus and drinking lots of water. Just started working out at least 3 times a week and playing ice hockey once or twice a week. I feel so much better during and after riding my skis now.

Have not tried the south beach diet but i know people who have. Whatever works for you. Good to use the buddy system too.

you must be lanky or something... i'm shooting for 160-165 and I'm only 5'8" medium build.

And yes, tons of fluids a day, which I was already doing before. I drink a glass of water with breakfast,1 coffee mug in the morning, 1 water bottle before lunch, either a diet caffeine free soda, iced tea or more water for lunch, another water bottle in the afternoon, and a glass of water with dinner.

I dont know where they come up with their figures on what weight a certain height person should be. According to those figures, im 5'9'' and should weigh around 150. If I was at that weight I would look like an ethiopian. Im 195 and shooting for 185. One thing they dont mention with those figures is that muscle weighs more than fat, so if your in shape and working out, those numbers are going to be drastically different. Im 195 at 5'9'' and im not fat. Ive been on a steady workout and running schedule and my weight will not drop but im toning up.

Oh and dieting without exercise is like getting a combo meal at mcdonalds and ordering a diet coke with it. It wont do much for you.

I'm the same.. 6"1' and 170 approx.

I eat whatever cr@p I feel like and don't put on weight. Which is good, but at the same time really bad as my diet is rubbish, and being slim doesn't mean you are healthy. I know I need to cut out junk food and eat fruit and veg.

in reference to the p 90 X program.... This is one of the best physical performance exercise packages ava today!! I've been a trainer and buisness owner for years.. I used to teach a class revolving around the same movements and intensity as that program. MUCH APPROVED by the clients!! South beach diet? Ummm RUNNN AWAY! nutri system for me (Chris berman, Golic, etc.) Very good reviews and blood tests coming back, south beach limits specific nutrients needed..

Are you kidding? That is all what south beach is about, getting the proper nutrients. Encourages a very well balanced diet. About the only you can't eat is real sugar and refined starches which both have very little, if not any, good qualities.

To each his own, but nutrisystem is awful. I've tasted some of the meals and they are gross. I have not done my research on nutrisystem, but do you really think you can live your whole life eating that stuff? And it is crazy filled with preservatives.

On south beach I eat all fresh foods, nothing refined, and it works. It is about a lifestyle change. To eat well for the rest of your life.

One thing I don't like about it is that it encourages artificial sweeteners. Which can't be good for you either, but when I do use them, I choose Stevia, which is about as close to real sugar as you can get.

BTW, I've lost 15lbs in 8 weeks and I feel great.

Emm
02-25-2009, 02:26 PM
Nutrisystem is DISGUSTING! I ate it for like 5 days and I sent that mess back. The preservatives can not be good for you...it was like eating already nasty food with chemicals spread all over it. :261:

Not to mention the only thing it really teaches you is portion control. It doesn't help you really CHANGE your eating habits.

I am back on my diet (still have about 10 lbs to get to my goal!) which is basically just eating healthy, smaller portions, and shooting myself up with a pregnancy hormone that burns your abnormal fat as calories so you don't have to eat at much. I have been off of it for a year but after Christmas I started falling back into my old routine of eating out and eating junk. I am BACK on track now!!!! No more junk...and I have pretty much given up beer (only 1-3 a month).

You just feel so much better eating healthy foods!

Keep it up Oxnard!!! :headbang:

On that subject... My cousin's soon to be husband is beer snob. He is a member of the beer advocate website that reviews beers, and has a trading area. Last weekend I did have a bottle Pliney Elder which is the 6th top rated beer in the world, and man was that delicious.

I have slimmed down from 220 to a solid 185. I work out 5-6 times a week following Body for Life and the "Innate Diet" (don't eat anything that has a label).

I have managed my weight loss in several tiers. I seem to lose a few pounds and then plateau. I saw the P90X and have modified my workout based on their principle and I am seeing great results in only a few weeks.

It's the intensity that makes it work. Where I used to rest for a full minute between exercises, I now hit another area of my body. ie I will Bench Press a set of 12 then do 12 situps and then return to bench. I keep the exact same workout routine but now I have a full regiment of core building exercises that I use to fill in all the rest time.

For Valentines, my g/f bought me a Heart rate monitor by Polar and I use it to keep my heart rate up over 130 for the entire workout. I'm too cheap (broke from buying ski parts) to buy P90X but the concept is solid. Keep your body guessing and keep the intensity up for the entire workout.

I did P90 YEARS ago.....it seemed to work but I can't seem to do jack squat at home (plus no room to do that stuff on the boat). I know several peeps that are doing P90x and doing quite well. I just have to go to the gym and have someone yelling at me or I won't do it.

Even then they have to be almost nazi like or I don't do as well as I should. My Monday spin class guy yells at us and I kick a** in there.....kills me but I know I am doing what I should be doing. My other spin lady is ok...but she is too "nice"....I kind of float through it....just doing what I have to.

Also if you have seriously changed your eating habits you should looki into taking a multi-vitamin and extra antioxidants. These paired with ICE cold water will help flush you system of all the crap that has built up.

I am 6'3'' and was 235 last Jan - now 185 after a yr of working out 4-5 times a week, eatin healthier on the weekdays (splurge on the weekends) and takin above pills and drinkin protein (3 shakes a day to replace fat with lean muscle)

Keep it up though, everyone is different and responds to different things

Hey, I'm trying.

I've plateaued around 13-15 lbs. But have kept it off since January.

Haven't been as strict lately with the diet. Seems like every weekend I get invited to an awesome restaurant or lead to some other tempting food.

And last weekend went a little hole in the wall bar that was a beer nerd's dream. Had so many quality beers on tap + tons more hard to find bottled beers.

Pliney the Elder on tap is so yummy. #7 rated beer in the world on Beeradvocate.com

I hear ya...same here. I am stuck at my weight now.....SUCKS!

I started the "abs diet" last week...which is basically just eating healthy fats...more fiber and protein...stuff like that. It isn't anything fancy...just normal old foods which is what I need! So far so good :bigok:

I need to get to Cali to enjoy a few beer nerd establishments :highhorse:

There were tons that I didn't try. But I had a two or three pints of Pliney, one pint of Prohibition Ale, and I want to say I had the Dubbel Fantasy from the San Diego Brewing Company, but can't be certain. I was just loving the Pliney I didn't have a chance to try anything else.

Before we went to that bar, we went to a Brazilian Steak House. First time I had ever been to one. It was some of the best steak I have had in my life. A unique experience.

All you can eat. Salad bar with tons of quality salads, sides, breads, etc. Then these guys walk around the floor and serve you freshly cooked steaks, chicken, beef lamb. Sliced at your table. The Brazilian steak and skirt steak was to die for.

When we were there we all ordered Caipirinha's. They were pretty tasty. I defiantly want to try to make some.
