Just finished the initial prototype bed-plate mock-up, just tacked together but the alignment is spot on. I don't have T cases to check clearance at the intake manifold, and still need to mock-up a Bpipe to make sure the head-pipe and chamber clear as well, but its looking like a winner. Get in line if your interested, X2addict will be doing the testing for me in the weeks ahead since I'm out until March. Should have them installed to show at Daytona, at least thats the plan right now. This is setup with the Tigershark coupler and stock kawi motor mounts, just bolt to the factory bedplate location, align and shim the motor as normal. I'm not taking deposits, they will be built from scratch one at a time. Stainless may be an option down the road, just harder to work with at this time. (critique welcome)

OzThe coupler replaces the stock one and fits the stock yami on the motor. Yes, just bolt them on in place of yami bedplates.

It will fit. His engine is in same place mine is, atleast it should be as we used the same coupler setup. I fit a TNT chamber in my hull, it went in easier than a limited blaster chamber. I may end up back with the SJ chamber as it fits a little better.

so how long till you got some ready for sale crab? I might score another hull this week... any idea on price?Going to wait and see how things hold up, price will depend on materials used and if they need paint or powder coating. My preference would be stainless, but I need to update my welding gas/wire and get some SS drill bits and cutting tools. Should have an answer sometime after Daytona and I get the prototype back for inspection.

Heres the deal. Plates seem to be holding up great. I'm planning to have mine powdercoated here locally after I get them back from the Crabster. I'll have them back out very soon and should have some better pics of the plates themselves. I had such little time to get it all working that the few pics I took were on my crappy cell phone camera, and were of the engine installed and not the plates by themselves. You get the idea. Plate uses X2 motor mounts, and stock Yamaha wing mounting locations. I've burnt about 3 tanks of gas through it and I can't see any problems what so ever. Everything is still good and tight. Here are the pics I have for now.

No Mike, wings similar to what yamaha does only out of steel. I did the one for Will out of 3/16 x 2" flat stock, but will probably switch to 1/4" for a little added strength (although perhaps not needed) for those who run a little hotter setup. Anyone ever seen a stock bedplate rusted out to the point its unusable???:trink26:

What I ment by how it is bilt was more of a corrosion based question. The stock plate is steel covered in a powercoat or something like that. By made the same I mean is this the same material as the kawi plates and will hold up just as well (or better or worse) than that material in the salt (After they are covered, and if the covering avail is better than what Kawi offers).

I don't know much about different kinds of steel and coatings when it comes to holding up. I know the Kawi plates can last a long time. I wont be buying one soon as I'd have to get a motor too, but curious as to how they will last. Also, how much does coating run?

The secret to coatings, paint or other is to prepare the steel properly by blasting. Then use the correct primer and topcoat, even powdercoat will do better with the proper primer. I wouldn't hesitate using rustoleum after using their bare metal primer, just fixed up my 250 gallon propane tank with it. Another option is galvanizing, but probably overkill. Either way, they will be clean and almost look like they have some kind of coating on them, but its just from being blasted. (;perhaps I should prime them?)

Yeah guys that is a SJ Mod chamber. The blaster limited will NOT fit, tried it. I did however get the TNT chamber to fit. It was dented on one side to fit into a superjet, and it fit perfectly into the X2. However the centerbleed design made for a pain in the ass trying to fit any type of fuel tank in. Ended up cutting up a 2 gallon gas can and modding a kawi fuel pickup to work in it, haha.
I couldn't find a SJ chamber ANYWHERE when I needed it, and couldn't hardly sell my blaster chamber. Ended up buying a brand new SJ mod chamber from Wammer.

He is right on the Blaster limited, its about 2 inches two short, since the hull tapers in right there. Not sure why it works with the Kawi stuff....go figure. Type 4 drypipe or Wetjet pipe will work if I want to cut into the footwell area....still debating on that one.:poke:

701 sits further forward in my hull. X2 fuel tank is T I G H T already, I'll be running a small 2-3 gallon kart tank this season. Also, my mod chamber only has a few inches to make the 90 degree bend needed to catch the water box. My waterbox has the mounts all cut off, and is resting on turf so I can roll the top input tube as far forward as possible. Just keep this in mind if going with the limited, it's the reason I bought a mod. I don't know from experience, but I doubt your going to see THAT much difference from limited to mod. Maybe going from SJ mod to blaster limited or something.. Again just opinions, I really don't know. When putting together a puzzle like a 701 X2, the more room the better.

Shoehorn and Mod pieces :cool2:

Thats trick!! I want! I want!
I actually have the first setup that hasn't fallen off the exhaust yet. I used the big thick hose from my SJ stock pipe to waterbox, and cut the 90 out of it. It fits on the end of the b-pipe with some force. It's too big for the waterbox, so I just used a piece of stock x2 hose as an adapter and fitted it over the waterbox inlet. The SJ hose slides tightly over the top of the X2 hose, two clamps, bulletproof!!
I can't even count the times my pipe came off last year.. Almost all of them right there in that bend. Hell I sank it a couple times due to it coming off to out and getting bashed the whole way in.

The limited bpipe chamber is better then the mod, but its alot easier to install the mod. Thats the only reason I am running it...lol

I don't have a picture right now with the SJ tank in place but the X-Metal water box fits further up in the nose and ultimately allows the tank to sit further up in the nose.
This picture is with the 701 in place, B1 mod chamber & X-Metal box.....same setup I ran with the 750. You can simply plug the rear exhaust outlet if you wanted run front exhaust only.

Yup, I have called several times over the last year and they have had them in stock everytime. The whole, "they are out and not making anymore for a while" is a load of crap started by some tool so they could charge 700$ for a used b pipe. great ideo for this plate. Great upgrade over that 650 or even 750 motor.

I just ordered a set of kawi style couplers from ada, I may know someone looking for pair. What do you want shipped and I will spread the word or list them in the fs section for a few bucks cheaper and they ought to go quick.

these will work on a 650sx right? and what else would we need for the 701 conversion?? would a 650sx pump be big enough to handle the extra juice without cavitation?

Crab, what's the eta on a set of these? Also, whats the preferred method of coating treatment, Paint or powder coat? I can do both, just curious. Also, any avenue for the Tigershark coupler? What model Shark fits this combo (if they are different)?

Are you planning to change out one of your X2's Shawn? I figured you'd be sold on the superjet by now!

As crazy as it sounds. I'm not 100% sold on the SJ. I am going to put some of the bolt on tubbies on the SJ and see how that helps. I am building an X2 for the GF and want to get rid of the kawi motor.

I will pay extra over what anyone originally paid for there bedplates.... wish I bought a set when Crab was making them.

You can make a set for pretty cheap. I think I spent less than $30 on aluminum to make a set for my sxi and it was pretty easy. I got the idea from another member on here that did it with their x2.

Thats my backup plan, I am just very lazy and hate fabbing things.

I hear that. If that's what it comes to it's a pretty easy fab. Let me know if I can help.

No problem, ill put together a list after work. Send me your email and I can get you pics. They'd be of the plates in a 750 hull but the spacing and driveline is the same as the x2.

Ordered some material today...lol Thanks again Cam. Going to do 2 sets, one slightly different then you did to MAYBE save some machining time after running the project by my dad. Will report back how that goes.

Mark,

If you can come up with a plate that drops a kawi in a yamaha, I will be the first to buy. Joe and I want to put a 1100 all done up in a carbon blaster hull. If you make a plate, it, it sure would make life a lot easier.

Hook a brotha up.

Does the sj and blaster have the same lay out? I'm selling the only blaster hull I have tomorrow but I could build it off the sj.

scottie mac
10-22-2010, 11:24 PM
Yes, you can take a motor straight out of a blaster and put it in a SJ without mods and visca versa.

shawn_NJ

Mark lets talk...

And yes any SJ/Blaster 61x or 62t bottom end will bolt up interchangeably in the hull once its setup for it.

I guess you gave up on the Viper 9000 motor idea, huh :) If you want to drive up to Sebastian you can see how we did it in my X2 or we can do the conversion for you if you bring your hull.
