Since the Yamaha FX-1 was only sold in the USA for 2 years
Lets see who here has them, and how many you got.
Ill start. I have 6 plus a hull that Im going to use to splash molds off
2 with 144 pumps are my current surf boats and have been thru hell
1 project boat with a 140 mag pump and stroker big bore
1 stock for the wife (but it does have foot holds)
1 surf boat with stock pump for the flat days
1 hull for molds ect
1 brand new, never run or had gas ,was only on display (For Sale)
My brother in law has 2 with basic mods (pipe prop Head)
Special FX you said you have 5
special fx

I do have 5, but one is an empty hull.
1 - 650 Kawi pump mod w/61x ported cyl, wetjet intake. (AKA; Frankenstien)
1 - 650 Kawi pump freshly painted and getting a big bore 62T/61X
1 - Old School stock pump boat with fresh wetjet 701 engine......soon to get a Kawi pump and a 900 zxi motor.
1 - Stocker for the Girly.
1 - Empty hull for future projects
I count 24 FX-1s (25 if you count Joe B's half FX/half square nose) at my riding spot, but I'll let those folks chime in for themselves.
I have one as of now....sold one at daytona
also have my f1-pro...its a direct fx1 splash with the body lines cleaned up and a full SJ intake..
I kicked around selling my other fx..but I cant do it
Ill stick it in the shed and keep my eye out for a 144 pump for it..

I just sold my Sj & picked up a stock 95' a few weeks back...its all stock and untouched. It even had the original spark plugs with the yamaha grey engine paint on them! I just got an R&D intake grate and Protec Ride Plate, and I am looking to do footholds, turf, bildge, and trying to decide between a better prop or save up for a 144mm pump.

Last winter added a 144 pump, b-pipe, custom tubbies, milled head, UMI straight bars, and used a Blaster prop for now.

I have 1-1995. I have had it for four years. The day I got it I did a makeover because it was so ugly and purple
I did the usual paint, turf ,umi bars, plate , grate and foot holds but then I figured while I was at it I would try some tubbies. I rode it like this with stock motor and pump for three years.
I may have kept it this way but the stock pump sucks, as luck has it my motor took a crap and my midshaft bearing was a ball of rust so it was the perfect time for a redo.
So this year my baby got a new makeover that you cant see 61x ,mod B-pipe,ADA head, wet jet intake,46m carb,Kawi 140 pump, skat prop ,Wet wolf cone and super secret ride plate.

Im still fine tuning the new engine combo but I love the new found hookup with your world famous pump conversion. I cheaped out on the pump cone and got a stubbie cone instead of the R&D but it still hooks really well.
Thanks for your write up and research on this conversion and also thanks for your help with the bearing.

I believe it is bolt in and go.
Need to get a blowsion pump shoe for superjet, requires minor trimming. But yeah, an FX1 driveshaft, superjet pump, $600, got yourself a bad ass ski. The Kawi conversion is roughly $350 w/ lots of work. Yamaha conversion is roughly $800 w/ no work. If anyone knows its me, because I did both. If I could do it all over again, I would have never done the Kawi conversion unless I had the experience/knowledge of doing it. Their is a lot of glass/sand/glass/sand etc. trying to get that perfect allignment. $500 more for the parts and services as opposed to the Kawi conversion is much easier and the result is even better.

I just picked up THREE more skis this week.
I got two AC aluminum handlepoles, a blowsion carbon fiber hood, multiple aftermarket ride plates and intake grates, and three complete motors, two 62t and one 61x, and a TON of motor parts, as well as a true FX-1 B-pipe with a FX1 limited chamber (not a dented superjet one).
That made my total 5 FX-1 skis this week, but I sold one on Wednesday.

I'm new here, and just bought my FX1 a little over a week ago. I had a pumped up RN before it, and a whole bunch of 440s. I found I really enjoy riding those old skis, and when I first rode an FX1, I absolutely loved it. I can't believe they don't make something like it anymore. Anyhow, I got a really cherry one, and I have some plans for it. I too, would like to get ride of the purple, and redo the gelcoat underneath in white. Anyone done this before?
SUPERJET-113

Welcome to the X Honky! lol
I would just sand and paint over the gelcoat. Its a lot of work to re-gel coat a bottom, especially if you want to remove most of the old gel coat.
On my FX-1 I just fixed my chips and gouges with white gel coat, then sanded it and painted it with a single stage polyurethane Enamel auto paint.

Thanks dude!
I know it's a lot of work removing gelcoat. I just HATE the way something looks when it chips, and the old color shows through. It looks so cheap to me. I don't want to ruin my skis resale value although I don't really plan on selling it. The thing is, I'm worried about the paint peeling where the ski rides the trailer, the inside of my suv, the beach stand, or the logs and obstacles I bunny hop but occasionally come up short on. It just seams like gel coat is the right way to do a color change underneath.
If I so sand through all the old stuff down to SMC and re coat, is there ever any known problems with adhering?
just joe

Add me to the list. I have an FX1, Sj, and SXR.
My FX1 has been a 3 year build, starting from a 62T ski bought from Mile9c1 on the board 4-5 years ago. While in the process of this build, my FX1 has seen 3 different houses and 2 different states, most recently moving from Michigan to California a year ago, and I'm finally getting around to finishing it.
Cool thing for me is that I have done 100% of the work other than the pump conversion. This would not have been possible without this forum and tons of patience from my wife.
Buildsheet:
Hull
Carbon reinforced hull (2 layers of 5.5oz on sides, btm, front, pole bracket area)
Carbon wrapped pole -2"
Umi standard turnplate/sealed bearing
Blowsion lowered pole bracket (re-anodized black)
Dawson Dig'r footholds
New foam
exhaust/steering re-sealed
Tubbies glassed in
Hood glassed in
Gunwales glassed in
Internal fuel fill
Dual cooling
JD intake
JD ride plate
144mm shoe
Wetracer front latch
WD rear latch
hood straps
limiting rope
UMI zero's w/crossbar
ODI grips
X-metal Throttle
Kenny Keepers
stainless battery tray
a couple bilges - TBD
Driveline/misc
144mm Blowsion pump, blueprinted and polished (why I don't know, I was bored) with Protec Maxflow 82mm compression nozzle
Sato adj. steering nozzle (but considering using the Protec that came with the pump)
-2mm cutback 13/18 swirl
Wolf cone
epoxied and ported 62T cases (done by yours truly thanks to all the info on the X! )
Ported 61X cyl 81.5mm bore- sportport template and much X info, especially from Matt_E
Weisco pistons
Moto T reeds
Riva spacer
Dual 44's (planning reverse jetting)
Blowsion head, 35cc's
B-pipe, Jethot coated manifold/head/stinger
B-pipe mods aka TS style
Dual digital TL
Oddessey battery
JSS wires
+ many other minor parts
I just finished painting it with some HOK hues, but unfortunately it isn't sitting well with me. Color wasn't what I expected, and the design looks better in pics than in person. So I plan to re-do it over the next couple weeks with Titanium Pearl, Tangelo Pearl, and flat black.
Oh yeah, this build almost killed me. When grinding a crappy casted JD grate on my 6" bench grinder, half of the stone broke off (1 lb) and hit me in the face. Luckily a broken orbital, nose and some stitches were all that happened. Had it hit me in the forehead or side of the head, I might not have been able to write this.

Well, I've got two more.
That makes my current total four right now as I type this.
Subtract two that I sold last month, one to Idok, one to Butti.
Here they are. I had to buy both to get the one I wanted, which is the gold one. It's a keeper for sure.
I just aquired all the supplies for a 140mm conversion, and it will make it's way to Thrust Innovations after that for a new style scupper. Tonight I'm bolting on a Jet Dynamics intake grate and Jet Dynamics ride plate that I've been saving on the shelf for just a ski like this. They are like new.
The white one IS for sale if anyone is interested.
So, as of today, I have owned 12 FX-1's.
This might very well be it for me.
I think I'm finally getting to the age where I need an SXR just to stay standing out in the surf.
