anyone heard of this? it's nothing fancy....just basically what is says...cutting on refined crap and stuff like that.

I have lost all the weight I want....just trying to keep the toning going. I know clean eating is heavy on muscle building foods...

anyone ever done this? I'm a picky eater so new diets are always tough for me....

It's actually pretty easy, and very healthy. Just shop the perimeters of the grocery store. That's where you'll find all the good stuff; produce, fish, meat, etc. Once you get into the aisles it's pretty much all garbage;soda, sweetened cereal, high sodium soups, and all that overly processed and overly refined garbage.

I was basically doing that when I lost my weight....but this adds some little things to make it more protein packed and stuff like that.

Since we have moved back we haven't been eating well AT ALL! I was so used to hitting up my zumba class as well....and haven't found one here yet so I feel worthless.

I am also trying to kick the beer (again) ....it's tough living on the boat...everyone is always drinking.

Trying to start walking again.....about to go hit the lakeside trail which is about 3 1/2 miles.....try to do it twice...I just get bored :ugh:

The beer/booze thing is my biggest downfall, for sure. I eat pretty healthy, high protein very little sugar or refined flour, and that combined with riding the SJ keeps me in pretty good shape. People always think I am full of crap when I tell them that that is how I burn calories and stay toned, but it works. Of course they are probably picturing me sitting on an RXP and just driving in a straight line on weekends.... I pretty much ride the SJ every day Spring through Fall if it isn't pouring out, so it is a pretty consistent workout.

In the winter I strength train. My body just responds better,as far as burning calories, through weight lifting than it does from hitting the bike or the treadmill. Which is fine with me, as I'd rather gargle razor blades than go jogging.

I agree....I HATE jogging/running and my knees can't take it anyways. I also can't just go to the gym.....it's boring and it feels like work to me. I have to do something outside or something exciting...which is why I loved zumba so much...I love to dance so I got to shake my booty while burning 800 or so calories :woot: I didn't really noticed the difference it had made until we were on the boat and on our way home....it really did tone me up.

just avoid processed carbs
like corn syrup (which is in almost everything pre-prepared), white flour, potatoes and sugar
that leaves lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and berries
its called the diabetic diet, and I got to join that club
involuntarily last month:ouch:

Try to buy your grains(oats, rice, wheat germ, wheat bran, etc...) unrefined if at all possible(bob red mill makes some good products that don't remove all the vitamins and minerals). Regular boxed cereals are sugar in disguise regardless of the fiber they offer and the enriched synthetic vitamins they put in.

For dairy, try to just eat yogurt with some kefir if your dieting a couple times a day. Good for the digestive system since it contains good bacteria for the stomach.

Proteins, you really should buy organic if you can. Try to find grass fed beef vs the grain fed as its less in saturated fat and has a higher omega content. Wild game like buffalo and deer are very lean and heart healthy compared to a grain fed cow. Fish is great if you can eat it, especially salmon for the high omega 3s. I do like my eggs though(usually 4 per meal for the protein and extra energy)

As far as fruits and vegetables go, consume about 3 servings of each group oer day. This is your antioxidant group that will help prolong your life and keep your immune system up. All berries are great, try to limit raisins, bananas, and other high sugar fruits as they contain too much fructose and are lower in antioxidant capacity. For veggies, its hard to beat broccoli, kale, and spinach. Low in carbs, high in fiber, high in vitamins. Just what you need.

Water should be all you drink(I drink distilled since I have a distiller here at my home), with limiting or rarely drinking alcohol since its a diuretic.

That along with a good exercise program(mainly weightlifting and functional conditioning for cardio) will get you to your desired body mass index.

well, that's a bit more extreme than the daily food intake I am living off of right now - but very similar.

very little pre-processed foods. in fact about the only thing i eat that comes out of a package or bottle is salad dressing or mayonnaise - and I try to choose only those low in carbs, fat & sodium. I do eat some cereal - either All Bran or Shredded Wheat with fresh berries for breakfast a few days a week.

3 fruits, 4 veggies per day - I usually go over of the veggies.

beef, game, chicken, fish & shellfish I get 8-10oz twice daily. I cut back the frequency that I eat pork due to sodium content.

Limit butter and other fats to the minimum needed for cooking. And I use olive oil when at all possible.

it's working for me, and I eat very well.

I am the other way around. I would rather run on a cross country course then be anywhere near an unsanitary, smelly, gym full of meatheads and stale air (i am thinking of the WMU rec center). :chairshot:How you guys can packyourselves into those sardine machines everyday boggles my mind. I do live right next to a nature preserve, so maybe i am spoiled. But you won't see me ina gym unless there is more then 6 inches of pow on the ground...but i will most likely wait until they plow (they plow the sidewalks in portage 3 miles away) then hit the streets.

Good for you emm for trying to eat healthy!:Banane35: Beer is my biggest downfall as well.

I agree....gyms gross me out....I even took my zumba class at a real dance studio so I didn't have to deal with the nastiness :fing02:

I ate my last bad meal yesterday....and after I went grocery shopping and picked up all my healthy stuff.

I am weak though...I broke down and had a cold beer last night...I couldn't help it...that Shiner Hefe was calling my name!!!! And I will probably have one or two tonight because it's my friend's birthday and we are meeting him at a nice beer bar. If I can even cut back to one night a week I would be good....it's just so dang HARD!!

YEah, I have a certain soft spot for da beers. :stups: It is somewhere between my belt and my neck...I drink a few a night regardless of what i am doing. I just can't help it...they're everywhere i go. Besides when you work in cellular you feel like holding your own head underwater and punching yourself in the face after 20 different people come in and bitc.h at you cuz their free phones don't work. I just ate a tasty burrito and it was the shiznit. Not the healthiest but I have been running before work instead of after so that helps with the guilt.

I was introduced to the "Innate Diet" by Dr James Chestnut.

"Eat well, Move Well, Think Well"

"Eat Food. Food is easy to spot, it's the stuff that doesn't have labels. I lost 43lbs last year following the diet and fitness suggestions. Not to mention how much healthier and happier I feel today.

Emm

hmmmm...I will check it out. I am always up for suggestions.

I have NOT been eating well lately...and going to Nationals just ruined everything...greasy food and lots of beer!

I am back on the diet as of tomorrow (which is when I am going grocery shopping).

I have got to get off of this dang boat and start exercising again too....I feel worthless!

In the winter I strength train. My body just responds better,as far as burning calories, through weight lifting than it does from hitting the bike or the treadmill. Which is fine with me, as I'd rather gargle razor blades than go jogging.

That's how most (almost all) people are. It's how our bodies work. Strength training not only burns the calories while you're working out, but also up to 36 hours AFTER your workout you're still burning calories at a higher rate than normal. When you jog/bike, when you're moving you're burning calories at a higher rate, but when you're done sweating and your heart goes back to standing heart rate, you're burning calories at the normal rate again.

I do some sort of strength training 3 days/week and work my abs the other 3 days a week (gotta rest The Sabbath day), and also try to do some sort of cardio mon-sat (run, bike, rollerblade).

I eat pretty healthy (I go by the self procaimed "if it tastes too good don't eat it" motto that does me well), pound protein right after a lift, and have cut back on the cocktails immensely.

All of this since college (graduated in Dec. '07) and the turn-around has been very favorable.
