Waterbox mounting on X2

So I have an aftermarket aluminum waterbox in my 89 x2..and I'm using the same rubber mount pads that is used for the stock waterbox. and is secure enough for what I need. but there isn't any weld-on nut holes like the stock box. so its makeshift to say the least. basically i padded up the back end of the waterbox with more rubber to balance it out onto the rubber pads.I had to have it high and forward as much as possible. the reason for this is to have enough clearance for the fuel tank stem. but with only two of the bolts in place, I found that the rubber pads slip down into the center of the hull. again I fixed that with another rubber pad spacer in between.
but now i have all this weight into the mounting of the waterbox with a bunch of rubber and the box still isnt mounted as securly as I would like.
my question is...
does anyone have or has made a lightweight frame mount solution for aftermarket waterboxes.

BTW...i understand that the 86/87 kawis came with the stock stainless steel framed waterboxes...that formed to the hull... but i'm not willing to go that route...i want to stick with my aftermarket waterbox. but maybe make a stainless/or aluminum frame forming box mount.

A lot of guys use the foam waterbox pads out of the later model X2's. 93-94 I maybe..? Anyway, they are just like the rubber mounts, only made from a light weight foam. I don't use any mounts in mine.. I just crammed some pieces of rubber floor mat out of a truck that I cut to fit under the box and strapped her down. I haven't had any problems with it. Doesn't seem to move anywhere.

You could make some mounts out of 8 pound foam. 8 pound shouldn't soak up water and it is lighter than the stock rubber. You could just pour the foam into the nose and shape it right in the hull.

also I frequently check it for water anyway..

so whats the advantage of removing it.
I only see an advantage by keeping it. it seperates the water from the gas.....right?

btw..how the hell water gets in the gas I don't know!

Its a one way valve , it allows air and water and any other liquid in but does not allow gas or fumes out. As gas leaves the tank and is used ,the air enters through that one way valve. Water fills that seperator and if it gets full one time and you dont check it, it will get water in your tank and then it could hydrolock your motor and score the cylinder walls. Its happened to me.

That line going up to your handlebars is continuasly sucking in air , if you flip your ski upsidedown or over on its side enough to submerge that hose its sucking in water. You get a nube on your ski out in the middle of the lake or in the surf and its got a good chance of spending more time on its side then right side up.

So the advantage of removing it is not having to bore for new pistons .....

Now you do ..... that and losing the rubber seal on your gas cap .... Had both happen to me.

Why not just remove the tube going to the handlebars,thats what I did,I visually check it before each ride,if it has water in it I unhook the hose and blow the water out with an air nozzle.

If you undid the line from the seperator to the bars you should never see water in the sepereator. If no water at that point is ever in the seperator then why have it?

ok... thank you for explaining that to me...now I understand.
so I like both yours and wedoseadoos ideas..
I'll remove the water seperator and remove the waterline going to the handlebars..
leave the check valve and just shorten the line so it goes up top inside the engine compartment somewhere.

I can't use box cutters anymore...I use to go balls out and cut everything around me...slicing this and that...

so I don't use em anymore....lol

No sweat Agro , I hate to see a fellow X2er break something. I've also seen people drill holes in the bottom of the seperator. Here's a picture of mine. You just need a short tube.

Waterboxes like Coffmans, Factory Pipe, Jetsports, ect all fit perfectly on the foam!

I think I may just turn mine nose down and hang it and use pour foam in it,I have nothing in front of the fuel tank on mine,it would be a good place to add some floatation.With some trimming that setup might work on my SX though.

I had to take it it even trimmed to death it was hitting the pipe.
