Its been one week exactly since i quit smoking cigarettes. Im taking prescription Chantix and it works like a dream. I figure one more week on the drugs and Ill be on my own. I even went drinking Friday night and made it with no slip ups. That took a little will power. Im definitely feeling much better all around tho. When im on the lake now and I start to get winded I cough up green stuff (gross but thats a good sign my lungs are trying to clean themselves out) I highly advise the Chantix to any smokers on here. That and lots and lots of gum.

Congrats, I just hit the 3 month mark myself. I'm sure you already know, but it gets easier, after 1 month the cravings are pretty much gone.

Might want to give this a try, it tells you how long you've quit, how much money you've saved, etc: http://www.xarka.com/freeware/quitcounter.html

Good for you. I've been saying that I'm going to quit for the last 19 years. Maybe I'll finally step up and give it a shot. I've heard a lot about that drug too. Not sure if I want my weenie to fall off though!
I've got to try it though. Besides the cost of them nasty things nowdays, I definately need some more stamina for riding. Not to mention they smell like ass!

I was able to quit by first reducing my cigarette intake to < 1 a day and then stopping.

Kinda weened myself off it.

Coughing green stuff, huh? I thought smoke was black.

I applaud you for quitting!! :Banane09:

How much do cigs cost where you all are from? I don't smoke and I just heard from a friend that they paid $6.85 a PACK here at a Supermarket in Mass. Holy Crap!! I would bet over half of that is for taxes though.

Yup, Im putting five bucks a day in a jar and come this winter that should cover turf, paint, footholds and maybe a new hood.

:beerchug:That's a great idea. That's what I've been saying for several years. If I would have stuck with it, who knows........:brap:
Just wish I could grow the brass to stick with it!!:smashfreakB:

Bunch of frigin hypocrites!!! Penalize a certain group of people, against your way of life. While you're sucking up the proceeds!! They'll control everything before long. Don't get me wrong....I LOVE my country!!!:unitedstates::usa:But even though it's a nasty thing (smoking)...where do the taxes and penalties end on different things? When they start telling me that I can't even smoke in my own vehicle.....it's crossed the line. That's just an example. :hijacked:This used to be...and for the most part still is, a FREE country. And I wouldn't live anywhere else in the world!! But....times are a changin'. And one by one, our freedoms are being challenged.
Well....if I could have quit smoking, maybe I wouldn't be spilling all of this. But this is the way I see things. And it's a damn shame.
Sorry to get off of the topic of this thread, but I was triggered...and that's all it takes. Sorry....:soapbox:

Blahh Blahh......I know you're mostly right. I was just venting in a drunken tyrade. LOL! But I still don't think it's right (no matter how nasty it is) to single out and tax the hell out of, and penalize a certain group of people becuase they have a nasty vice. There's a whole lot of other nasty things that other people do that don't get singled out that we just have to deal with. I just don't agree with the fact of the govt. continuously jacking up the taxes and saying where and when you can smoke, trying to force people to quit as they have stated as their objective. JMO. Maybe I'll change my views when I quit, but I doubt it. I still believe in free choice in regards to most things. That's what makes this country so great in the first place.

first off, congrats on quitting!

As for the prices, think of the billions spent on gov't provided healthcare for smokers, I see why they tax the hell out of tobacco. Now if we could only get them to do the same with the obese & fast food....Hmmmm

YES.

congrats on quitting.

I didnt start to feel better until like months later after I quit, I kept asking myself " why in the hell did I quit? I dont feel any better!"

then months later, I was a brand new man..

Some health insurance plans now charge more for smokers than for non-smokers.

thats only fair, since the choice to smoke, makes you statistically far more expensive to insure.

I for one dont want to pay for that crap.. I think cigs should cost $23 per pack...
