Recently my ski has been acting funny.

A few weeks back I thought I had debris stuck in my pump, I was getting a weird vibration/cavitation thing and no topend power. Saw nothing in the pump.

Took the pump out and bearings felt great. Rode again and there was no problems until 30 minutes into the ride and my problem was back.

Changed plugs before next ride and everything was great, but I didn't ride long.

The next ride the ski did it again after 30 minutes. The last rides make me think the problem is temperature related. I jumped the wire on my temp sensor, but I am unsure what is causing my issue. The ski pulls good down low, but feels like I lost the top rpms.

Its not plugs.... once the ski is completely cool runs great again.

Its not carbs.... ski runs great for the first 30 minutes

Head is milled a little and timing advanced with jumper mod. Rest is stock. I run 92/93 octane.

Any ideas,

Thanks peeps :bananajump:

I had the same issue, turns out the bearings went on my pump and then the prop munched the sides of the pump and effed the prop, and the bearings felt good still. I am sure you would have seen that, but its hard to notice until I took the prop right off.

KMAC was chasing the same thing a few weeks back, it was his bearings.

Thanks for the reply guys. I checked the bearing (felt smooth and tight) when I took the pump out. I figured it would be obvious if they were bad, but maybe not.

I wonder why when it is cool there are no effects. At the same time, if it was temperature it would happen sooner I would think. The ski is definately warmed up and then some when I notice the problem.

This just seems weird.

Mark44 rode it, we will see what he thinks.

P.S. what should I look for if it is a bearing issue?

Thanks again!

Have you trimmed back your spark plug wires lately?
Similar lack of power when warm but no noise or vibration.

I have never trimmed the plug wires back.

It kinda of feels like a fouled plug but comes off idle ok. I have enough power to cruise at a decent speed but anything else it just falls on its face.

I will check the plug wires. What should I be looking for concerning the plug wires?

Thanks Scorn

Cut the zip ties around the spark plug boots and pull boots off.
Check the copper wire to make sure it doesn't look burnt.
I usually cut off 1/8inch off and twist boot back on & zip tie.

Is it possible the ski is going into limp mode?

Can I bypass the exhaust water sensor to see if that is indeed the problem.

Thanks again,

a good indicator if the bearings are gone, is pull your pump cone off and if there is water or rust in the area inside/between the pump cone and bearing then it is shot.

is your gastank running out of air from a bad checkvalve?

Not after 30 minutes.

Check those plug wires. I had that same problem. Cut em back 1/2 inch. They definitely burn up on Kawis.

I am still on my stock pump and bearings and I have a 2003.
What about the driveshaft bearings? Those went on me...

Water in your gas could be the problem... if nothing else works. Drain the tank and take the carbs apart and blast them with carb cleaner. Could be a water bubble stuck in the carbs.

Problem fixed!

It was my plug wires. When I pulled them off the boots, 3/8" of wire strands fell out. I am assuming they were weak/broken. I cut them back, now it is sweet.

My ski is running awesome! The compression and timing advance seem to really helping. Now my ski idles well and pulls really strong for a stock piped ski.

Thanks for everyones help. It is hard to beleive that the plug wires made that much difference. I'm stoked!
