I've got a 4G 7XX-series. I often think that I should have waited for the larger screen, but this one does everything I need. It's mostly used as a word processor. I bought it to replace my old HP Jornada 820 (Win CE Jupiter clamshell PDA). The interface is not as limiting as I expected it to be. I tweaked it to get to the full desktop, and then turned the standard UI tabs back on and haven't messed with it at all since.

cool.
the larger screen models are nice, but for 600-700 you have so many other options when it comes to laptops. i also have a 17" lcd toshiba laptop i just got from buy.com for $389 (2gb ram, 160gb hd, dvd r+w, 2.0ghz, etc), but that's just too big to lug around all the time. great laptop and great price otherwise.
i dont know, i end up using my computers as just terminals to work on software most of the time anyways, with the only other things i do being mainly just email and running an IDE for java stuff.
thats about it.
i think the Eee would be a SWEET trail computer! :Banane09:

laptops are really coming down in price nowadays. i'm liking it. i've bought two in the last month alone. :cool2:
couple that with a good phone (i have an htc mogul running windows mobile) and life is good! i'm pretty dam productive these days, i must say.
plus, there's nothing like watching a movie on your phone (or 7" laptop) on an airplane. you can just hear the other people in your aisle hating you inside their heads the whole time. :bow28:

ASUS makes mother boards for damn near everyone.
I was actually lookingf at one of their full sized laptops at best buy. I wanted it, but then they fed me some line of crap about it being only availible online insteadf of in the store. I was like WTF man... theres one right here. I ended up getting an Acer.

Saki you need to open this page up on your laptop next time your on a plane. Make sure people can see it though.
Just raise your head and start chanting after you click it.

i have it just set to use wep and mac filtering right now, no wpa, but, i figure for the few minutes at a time i'm somewhere using it, that should be enough.
the biggest problem with the software is that its a DRAIN on the battery, but i have 2 extra batteries for my phone so its not that big a deal.
i love the fact that batteries for the htc mogul are like $10-$15 on ebay. :headbang:

My only complaint is that the screen on mine is a bit small. Side-to-side isn't bad at 800 pixels, but 480 vertical pixels ain't what they used to be. The newer 900s have a bigger display, but they are also slightly larger.

how is the atom? i'm looking at a 900 a at best buy for 280 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050206&st=eee+pc&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1218012526050.
only problem with it is 4gb but i guess i could buy a sdhc card and expand it. i kind of want to do the live 25% off deal on ebay and get one for 250ish witha 160gb hdd, but if the atoms are slow i might wait til the dual core comes out next quarter.

If you're okay with the Atom chip, you might also consider the HP Mini 1000. I had a chance to play with one last night. I didn't like the trackpad, but otherwise was impressed.

with the 25% cash back i can get a 10 inch one off ebay for 315 or the 8.9 900 for 230ish. does anyone have one with the atom? i'm just curious to know it it will seem slow. I mean most of the time i'll be surfing, and playing flash games. I'll have mathcad on there for sure, but my old p3 toughbook runs math cad so i'd hope an atom would, but i've seen where the atom in the eee benchmarks rather low, but in the same article they said that didnt represent real world performance of the eee. Basically i am seeing mixed reviews and want to hear from someone who has it.
