It acts similar to a carb problem, sometimes it will not start,if it does start it does not want to take off like the carbs are too lean, there really is no way to properly test it other than to swap the stator for a known good unit.

well I have a few friends with a variety of setups so at first I didn't consider it. but after rejetting one and testriding it - you can feel a diff in the carbs in the way the ski runs/performs, but after some time it will hesitate and run crappy like it has water ingestion. this one has f/a and a timing advance. I have another that may be fixed but time will tell. and an sxi with the same symptoms.
it just hit me as I have a bad trigger coil on my sj and i had seen some posts about problems with timing advances. gonna remove it and try it again, but I was just collecting info.
sound like a failing stator- water intrusion like symptoms when you know there are none?

That sounds just like a bad stator,I had several come through here right in a row and have heard of many on this very board, pretty much every time it was the stator.Try these guys for a cost effective solution.

If your running a advance plate. I had problems rubbing through pick up coils.
Remove the stator cover and check it. It gave me similar problems.

thanks guys- will check it out. was starting to think I was cursed with all these kawis acting up. worst part is they would run fine for a day and then next run like crap. so I do a little carb tweaking and all is good for a tank of fuel and give it back and everyone is happy for a few days. then same shiot!
here is a silly question. why would you buy and install a timing advance when you could just do like you were installing a factory pipe? they both advance 6 degrees and you don't have to take anything apart and deal with the front cover issues.?

Must use a advance plate with 03's.:chairshot:
as it's the old style electrical system

yes I understand but there is one installed in the 05 I am trying to figure out and I have one on my 05. I'm scratchin my head - why? more work and prone to problems or quick and simple. if you don't have an 03 why else would you do that. I guess they just don't know you can do it any other way?! seriously thinking about ditching mine which came with a dry pipe- guess they didn't read the instructions ?????

You can get more timing with the advance plate but most people don't grind the cover enough to get more. Also I believe people did not think the temp bypass was giving them the 6 degree's of advance the plate can give you.
