I think it should be necessary to list your city, state under your name... would be very helpful for 3 reasons....
1) if someone has a problem we can know who is close that might be able to help them
2) if selling something there wont be 100 people asking for location
3) My favorite: trying to find local people to ride with.... I use the advanced search to find people by city and state and then PM them with an invite to ride sometime....

I just called and there was no answer!! you guys must be busy... I'll call back later....
I think it would be most beneficial for newbies and people that dont get on here and post very often... and those are the people that most frequently have nothing there...

maybe just make it a box that makes you fill it out when joining? At least they will have to put something in... even if it's "your moms house" hehe
or perhaps you can make is some kind of special request for people to change their profiles the first time they come back to the site?
I dont know that much about how to make forums... I just thought it would be a good suggestion for the box...

You know, your location does not follow our location guidelines, just a city, state, nothing more, nothing less. No exclamation points, arrows, etc.
It's a nice suggestion, but un-enforceable really plus to me feels like micro-managing things. Some people would rather not have their location listed at all.

I have before... no biggy.... just figured the frickin suggestion section might be reserved for good discussion... guess I have never looked through this section too much before...
I have no problem with funny antics people throw around in the other sections... I do it too... but I doubt I would try to poke fun when someone is trying to make a suggestion for what he/she thinks would be beneficial to our site here (in the suggestion section)... I guess I thought it was funny at first, but then it kinda pissed me off... I thought it was a good suggestion...
Maybe I just need a beer... its been a long week...

I agree that regular beer is better, but when I drink I tend to drink in quantity... not quality... so I must choose the low cal route... my metabolism sucks... its a curse... in the winter time I tend to drink better tasting beer....

Sorry I riled you up eric. I was just kidding and personally agree with the idea. Couldn't it just be a required field when someone registers?

Yep, I'm with Eric. I can't tell you how many times some body (usually a newbie) has posted that they need someone that can help them with (fill in the blank) but they don't have their location filled in and don't think to put it inside their post.
Obviously, there will be peeps that put in bogus locations (Penguin) and put in smart azz locations (Charlie). But overall, it seems like a good idea to maybe, . . strongly suggest, that peeps fill in location info (at least state) when they sign up.
And if there was a way to require it for posting in the for sale section, I'd be all for that.

I agree. It's already an option and lots of people add location voluntarily. I think adding location is nice if you want to do it, but requiring it to be visible goes too far. IMO.

you best option is to just remind people that they should at their location in the profile. I bet brian glenn would have some other ideas. Darin just go ask him...
