X-H2o funding/donations

We have decided to add a donations system to help support x-h2o.com due to quite a few members asking for a way to help pay for hosting fees.

All money collected will go toward hosting fees first then to supporting events and members via t-shirts, stickers, food, and other means. No money will go into anyone's backpocket.

Our Paypal account is a business account which means fees do come out of payments, but we can accept credit card payments that way.

Currently we have expenses of $109/month for hosting plus $20/year for domain names and our advertising revenue covers just under 1/2 of that. In 3 months we'll be out of money.

If you followed the other threads, you'll know that our traffic has grown substantially and a regular shared hosting plan for $10-20/month just doesn't give us what we need so we had to go to a higher capacity plan but not a dedicated server.

I just padded the account a little. I figure its the least I can do considering the amount of money the guys around here (and the old site) have saved me between parts and advice on work I would have normally gone to a dealer (*gasp*) for.

Out of curiousity - why is this thread hidden in this section? I know I don't frequent this section much - any plans to give it a little more visibility? Maybe you prefer to keep it low-key, I don't know. Just my $02.

I'll have to get you guys in a little while as my funds are so tight right now, I'm gonna have to quit smoking because I can't afford it... but as soon as I'm back ontop I will help you guys out. This is a great site, and I will do my part to keep it open.



I hope advertisers see this, and want to put up more ads. I'm a firm believer in trying to use the advertiser of something I use a lot if I can.... that is unless they are asking $500 for a rideplate or something, then they can go stuff it...

Just an update, we're up to $875 in the account now. That's enough for hosting through February (as long as we can stay on this setup).

The total donated so far is ~$560.

I'm blown away honestly. It just shows the site is "For Riders, By Riders", everyone is an owner IMO.

Another update, $1147 in the X-H2o coffers now. We should be set for the next year or so, but we'd really like to be able to do shirts and other stuff for events. We'll work on that part.
