My 550 with a 44 SBN will idle well in the water and rev up to about 1/3 throttle, then it just falls on its face with more and then dies at about 3/4. When I adjust the high and low speed it doesn't change anything. It ran pretty good last year. I rebuilt the carb over the winter and when I was replacing the pop off spring I think I put in the dull silver one. I was wondering if this could be the problem with it not running well at all.
is the spring not the same as what you had before?
if so you changed your pop off and very well it probably is your problem

did you check the popoff? and also take the fuel selector switch out and see if you can blow though it. they get clogged up over time. I always see that prob.

I think that it had a shiney silver in it and now i believe it has a dull silver. It was very hard for me to tell the difference and that is the only thing that could have changed.
that would for sure change things though
