Sorry, he forgot you were freestyle god:hail:
Actually most people i seen run a front foot strap rather that two pair of holds
Ross_C
02-01-2006, 05:21 PM
When I rode your ski in Daytona, you already had foot holds and bars on it...are you putting different footholds in?
That ski ran really well there. I'll rip when you get done with it!
djkorn1
02-01-2006, 06:57 PM
That was just a list of 'everything' it will have. Some of it is allready done, but I am gutting it down to the hull so I can paint, etc... I'm not replacing the 24-7 footholds. They are bad ass!:hail:
I like the 4 degree bars better, more comfortable and just as wide. I think the term Freestyle for the bars signifies a crossbar????:ponder:
Ross, I'm glad you liked it. You did some big ass rolls on it. It should be faster, with the girdled head, a fresh rebuild, freestyle cone, intake grate impellor and hopefully "a port job" if I got the $. :ugh2:
Oh well, time to go wrench.

SXR's don't need reinforcing... do they???
I haven't heard of one crackin yet??? Mine doesn't even have a surface crack and I beat the piss outta it. If anyone knows if and where they crack let me know so I can put a couple layers of WEST there.

Id reinforce it anyway dude, rather reinforce now than repair a lovely freshly painted ski later!
Ross_C
02-01-2006, 07:06 PM
I really don't think the SXR needs to be reinforced. Mud could answer this, but I don't think Darin Anderson's boat is reinforced...I think I remember him telling me that it was a completly stock hull. But I could be totally wrong about that. I know that MattSmith beats the crap out of his skis, and none of them seem to be showing hull damage...(except for that one.:firedevil:):27:

02-01-2006, 07:15 PM
Fair enough,
To be honest i dont know how well the SXRs hull holds up.
But i do know that for how much it costs and how little weight it would add to the boat, id rather reinforce it now than try and repair a smashed ski later.
Then payout for another paintjob and graphics.

I am not sure where to reinforce if I was going to. It is soooooo thick allready!!!
I have seen SJ's reinforced and they STILL aren't as thick as mine. Just fat fiberglass everywhere.

i'v bashed my sxr's nose in the sand so many times. I've gone through 4 nose peices. i havn't seen the nose crack yet. i think the motor mounts will break before the hull. i would be interested in buying a lighter sxr hood if anyone sells them, but it would have to be set up with vent hoses so it doesn't take in water in the surf.

don't you have some stress cracks under the handpole bracket?

try 3dr. I believe their hood has a hose set up. its all carbon fiber and light. Its what motz and all them use on their sxr's. It might be hard to get tho, i guess the govt bought most of the carbon fiber for the war. idiots.

02-05-2006, 03:31 PM
My SXR has stress cracks in the gelcoat around the handle pole bracket, also down one of the bond lines from landing flat on the side while nose stabbing, that'll only get worse when I start over/under rotating roll attempts.
They're definately not completely surf-proof.

3dr's stuff is race oriented, not FS oriented.......... look into Blowsion or Wamiltons.

If it hasn't cracked yet, it's probably good to go (you've had it two whole seasons, right?). Doesn't make sense to make it even heavier if it doesn't need it...

I have a 3DR hood. The full carbon. It's about 1/3 the weight of stock. It does not have tubes on the inside but is designed not to take on water. There are no front air intake holes. I've ridden in the surf many times and not had a problem with water intake.
As for reinforcing a SXR. I really don't think it needs it.
Good luck on the project DJ

I prefer a 4 degree as a lot of other surf riders, it is mostly what fits you right. I don't think strait bars would give you any advantage?

This is DJ. I buried that sucker from about 16ft up right into the sand nose first. Fliped over the bars and lost the bumper, but not even a slight crack in the hood.
Ski4: Yeah, I got a couple stress cracks around the pole bracket... I'll beef em up.

The pump shoe is busted up pretty good. It must be from all those Sea-Doo riders I ran over. :sneaky: No cracks in the hull anywhere except in the gel coat from rippin rivets out and a couple tiny ones in the gel coat by the pole bracket. This area is about 3 times as thick as a stock SJ. :hail: I will grind em all and West Systems em up... Almost all the gel coat is gone from the bottom of the hull. It is down to the glass (which is still super thick):fing02:

What's wrong with the stock rail caps - do they get trashed in surf? I've got a buddy with his hull stripped right now. Should we not bother putting the stockers back on or use turf instead? Hope I'm not hijacking...
djkorn1
03-08-2006, 06:46 PM
No, it's all good. The stockers will only last so long... It is a matter of time before they start shreading... don't put them back on, unless you ride like a sissy. I would just turf over the area after it is smoothed out...

dude, seriously.... pwcgraphics.com is yet another clip-art "distributor". of course they can do graphics reasonably. they click on a few firey lines and the plotter cuts them to the desired size and color and it gets labeled as "custom". theres very little, if any, designing skills involved in the "graphics kits" that they offer.
give paul at exotic signs a call. you will be suprised at what he can offer if you give him a budget to work within.... he can also send you some clip-art for cheaper than the other guys.... but why?:Eyecrazy:
