ok, so now that we have see the way only idiot Americans treat their cats - http://www.x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=343

Let's have a look at everyone's pets... mine are my pals and I couldn't imagine not having them around.

The black and white photo is of my first and favorite pet (kittycat) ... I had to have him put to sleep last year due to a rapidly growing spinal tumor. I got really drunk that night...

This is the only pic I have on my comp here. We have 4 cats. This pic is Joe, our first cat. My dad wouldn't let me have a cat, but this one showed up at a neighbors doorstep and we took it in until we could find an owner. He runs the house while I'm away, no joke. Under the table behind him you can sort of see Nikki, our dog, who we had put to sleep a little while ago.

These critters sure GROW on you ! we raised ''JOE '' for the guide dog association for the first 12 months of his life , then we gave him back to them for 6 months training .... BTW ''That really hurt ''! HE FAILED ! so they gave him back to us after at least $10,000 worth of guide dog training ! needless to say he's very obedient ,and thats a good thing at 119 lbs ! ! I'm really glad he failed ,only about 50 % make it through school !

! I'm really glad he failed ,only about 50 % make it through school !

so im not the only one with an oversized lab...ha ha...

Dog Pack Attacks Gator in Florida

A t times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.

The alligator, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the "apex predator", can still fall victim to implemented 'team work' strategy, made possible due to the tight knit social structure and "survival of the pack mentality" bred into the canines.

See the remarkable photograph below courtesy of Nature Magazine. Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator preventing it from breathing, while another dog has a hold on the tail to keep it from thrashing. The third dog attacks the soft underbelly of the gator.

That picture with one ear up, one down looks hilarious. Looks like the same dog just a different angle :haha:

Their ears make them look so funny, they still only have one ear standing up at any given time. Just a matter of time before they start looking like a real german. BTW do you have an f-body?

E rok..I love that pic of them on top of one another........my dogs sleep like that all the time as well...

These two would have no clue what to do if they weren't right next to eachother. One has a limp right now from fighting with the other and he's slower to walk back inside, but the other one will walk ahead and then wait for him, then walk ahead some more and then wait. It's so cute, except for the fact that they love to beat eachother up.

Boston terriers often are brindle also and she looks like she could have strong Boston influence. Staffordshire terriers are also very often brindle and are much smaller than the American Staffordshires. She looks like she could have a lot of Staffy, too. It's a little hard to tell without seeing her in person, but that's my best net guess.

Most of what she says will be in the voice of the person she learns it from. They sometime learn things in voices we don't recognize - from the TV or radio, for instance. They will also learn things from other birds - I've heard Greys sound like Amazons, cockatiels, cockatoos, and nearly every wild bird species you have around your house.

They will also learn nearly every bell, whistle, ding or ring in your house. This part is important - they will learn things that are said emphatically - cuss words, for instance. You should NEVER keep a Grey in your bedroom - they get overly dependent and clingy sometimes, but more important, they are MORE than capable of repeating everything they hear in the bedroom! Just a little cautionary note for ya!

She should start mumbling soon and talking fairly clearly in another few months. Encourage her to play with toys and not totally depend on you for entertainment, she'll be much better off for it. Have fun with the new baby!

Green cheek conure. They both have lots of toys in their cages, on top of their cages, perches, stuff hanging off the ceiling to the cage etc.

I heard if you want them to talk that it is better not to do the whistling thing. They pick up on the whistling and makes it harder for them to talk. No clue if this is true or not. I just hope she doesn't pick up the dogs barking. 3 dogs barking is already too much when someone approaches the door or they hear something, lol.

You definitely want to encourage them to talk first and minimize the whistling at the beginning. Once they get the trick of talking, it's OK to encourage whistling, too. It's easier for them to whistle, so they'll go that way if that's all they learn.

And sorry about the dog barking, but she'll probably get that, too. She'll also probably call the dogs, the cats, the spouse, etc. Some birds really toy with the household dogs, BIG entertainment if you're a bird. Some learn to toy with their owners, too! I can't even tell you how many stories I've heard about birds calling the dogs, spouse, etc. Greys act all innocent when they show up. I know of many an Amazon that will call the dog, bite it on the nose, then laugh hysterically. Greys don't tend to be as mean spirited.

Don't be surprised if you hear her mumbling (she's practicing) while you're out of the room and not saying a peep when she can see you. Greys are notorious for talking when they're alone (or think they are). They also seem to really like to talk back and forth with you from the other room.

Last clinic I worked at full-time (I'm a relief vet now, travel to different clinics all the time) we had a Grey that was in the other doctor's office at night. I'd be all alone writing up charts and he would start talking back and forth with me and make sounds and wait for me to reply, or try to imitate sounds I made. Quite the game for him, I guess he had me fairly well-trained, too! He would also ring just like the phone, answer it (in the other doc's voice) and hold a mumbled conversation, then very clearly say Bye Bye (again in the doc's voice).

He had a nice variety of rude human bodily sounds he would make, imitated at least 5 other species of parrots along with at least 5 or 6 different native birds. He would do a mature male cockatiel in full song and a cockatiel "teenager" just learning to sing.

Greys are a lot of fun. Congo's like her are widely considered to the best talkers. Timneh grey's tend to be a little less talkative than Congo's, but still make lots of sounds and are excellent talkers. Their learning stages are a lot of fun and their talking and range of sounds just gets better and better with time. Enjoy her baby months, they're the best.

10 yrs ago I had a couple living next door that a 2 grey and they where having conversation mimicking the owner husband and wife arguing. or since I was home on my shed working on my ski and took the house phone with me they will hear the ring then they both picked on it and got me running for the phone several time. and also will do the back up sound from my work truck.
