I quit riding Road Bikes when I got hit by a car the ran a red light and lost my left kidney and my spleen.
When I used to ride alot, I used to get harrassed daily by cars. people throw sh!t at you, swerve at you, yell at you, etc. it sux. Like slutty said, alot of people think you should be on the side walk and not the road, but the truth is, the cops can and will ticket you for riding on the sidewalks.
Here's a good one. I got 3 tickets in one summer on A1A by The Oceans for speeding on my road bike. They suspended my license for it. aint that about a bitch?

ouch.
how you get a ticket for speeding on a bike??
there are several routes that are regularly ridden that are on country roads. even the city/county supports it.

for doing 45mph in a 35.
passing traffic is a dead give away. when I was riding and racing ALOT. I used to run SR415 from Sanford to Daytona (Volusia Ave) and back 3 times a week. it's roughly 48 miles one way and I could do it in about an hour and 10 minutes, give or take depending on winds.

18 lbs as it sat in the showroom. removed the reflectors on the bars and seat post so it is prob around 17.999995 lbs now!!!!!!!!
I did the swap parts to make the bike lighter on my first MTB, took it from around 30 lbs to 26 lbs and that cost me probably around $1,000.00 on top of what I paid for the bike (this back in 91). Not planning to do anything to this one except maybe swap seats off my hardtail. (Selle Italia Flight).

Nice bike. Can someone explain what is so much better about a 4k bike than a $500 bike? I know the frame is carbon, the rims, and the shifting components have to be better. Is it really worth it? You are doing this for exercise, so what if your bike is a little heavy? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I just don't quite understand.
You guys are going to roll when I post up my vintage ride.

Assuming the frame is roughly equal the components/wheelset/little details make all the difference in the world. If you're gonna ride much at all, 105 level components are the lowest group that should ever be considered. Ultegra is VERY nice and Dura Ace is phenomenal. The same is true with mtn bikes. Lx is good, XT is great, and XTR has to be ridden to be believed. Major differences in precision. Top shelf components will stay perfect for thousands of miles where the cheaper stuff may work ok for an occasional rider, but won't hold up to daily use.

what he said. With the better components you do not have to worry nearly as much about them giving you problems..... with Bikes (Road or MTB) it is the definition of you get what you pay for..........
Finally got to ride it today, 10 miles after work, of course I picked a route from the house that was very hilly, not the best for a first ride, or a first ride in a long time!!!!!!!! but good for a 36mph run down one of the hills!!!!!! I got to get use to riding on the road with cars!!!!!!!! use to the woods, you only have to worry about what is in front, not in back of you!

Yeah there is a HUGE difference riding a bike with nicer components. They last forever, shift almost instantly and brake better. This is my nicest bike ive had and it was totally worth it. I have added nicer pedals, got shoes, computer, and normal stuff like water bottle holders. I do races and was thinking about getting a disk wheel but I dont think its worth it until I get a really nice bike with dura-ace components tho

i didnt take any frame assemble pics sorry bk im building it at my cousins busines (http://www.dynamic-composites.co.nz/) and he is a wee bit secritive on the process how he puts the frames togeather .
i work shift work at my main job and on my days off i work for him part time and instead off getting paid i build whatever i like there .
im going to be running full dura ace componets (9 speed)except for the cranks which is
Ultegra . wheels are just middle off the road till i build some carbon wheels for it as well . mine is the 3rd frame like it made , my cousin has one and my uncle and mine . my cousins bike weighs 14 pounds.

Well, I ride both road and mountain bikes. What I would spend some extra $ on are the wheels/tires/tubes. Lighter wheels makes your $500 bike really come alive.
I have a bike with full Ultegra, Ritchey WCS stem/bars/sadle post/wheel set. Carbon front and rear forks. I really like it.
