SBT did their good deed by donating the cranks and gasket kits. Anything donated is appreciated. They helped support the ride, and a good charity. SBT will be listed as a contributer to the charity/ event. Thats all that matters.
What happens to items after the fact is out of anyones hands. It shouldnt matter to SBT anyway. They did their part.
Someone out their might end up using a t-shirt they won as a shop rag. Thats just the way it goes.
SBT would do well to take the high road on this matter, and just say... We did the right thing.

actually......

nevermind

The few people i know that have sbt cranks, have had great luck with them. They havent failed yet. I had one in my kawi. Many failed barrel roll attempts after, its still in mint condition, and yes, thats after the sinking

you want my take on it?

I bought raffle tickets and won a crank and a couple other small items.

I spent a fairly large amount in the live auction as well - granted I was going to spend that money anyway - but by buying in the auction the charity wins - and Paul gets a tax deduction too.

I am assembling a 701 motor with Magoo porting. Was I willing to use the SBT crank? yes

Do I have doubts about using a rebuilt crank (no matter who builds it)?? YES

did I sell it? yes

am I pocketing the cash? no - I am putting it toward a brand new crank

I spoke to a couple people from this board whose opinion I value highly and they didn't have a problem with what I was doing...and neither do I. I'll sleep just fine tonight.

if youre not going to use it - sell it. right? would it be "ethical" to let it sit there and collect dust?

It was your crank, and every right to sell it IMO.
