View Full Version : Factory Pipe Install

I just installed the Factory Pipe in the FX-1, seems a little tight. I did some hammering on the side where it was rubbing the hull. I can get a piece of paper between the hull and the chamber, but thats about it. I dont want to hammer it anymore either because its right near the weld. Does this seem normal. Should I try to get a bigger gap between the chamber and the hull?
Thanks

Yes but try doing it by twisting the chamber youd be suprised how much room you can get by doing it if all else fails glue a strip of turf to the hull so it doesnt wear through

I looked for a long time before I broke down and spent the money on a new one. They're rare and rumor has it that this year will be the last run on them. Better buy one while you can.

I feel like I've tried everything from twisting, raising the stinger, denting it. I even grinded my hull a little, until I saw purple!!! Whoops, grinded too much, had to repair the hull there.
I'll try twisting some more, but I have a feeling I'll be throwing some turf in there like you suggested.
Thanks.

sounds like you don't have a true FX-1 chamber then. post a pic

you may not need to pull it out, unless you were going to already

FX chambers kinda have a curve in the pipe on the back side closest to the hull while the MOD and Limited chambers are pretty much straight on the back.

I had to twist mine clockwise a bit so the water connector to the stinger points a little to the outside.

Here it is installed. My problem seems to be finding the balance between having it too close to the hull, and too close to the motor mount. I rotated it a little closer to the motor mount, which maybe doubled the previous distance I had toward the hull, (which still isn't much).
I hate to say it but I don't think you have an fx1 chamber. Even with all the reinforcing to my hull I still had plenty of clearance. I have a stock motor in my fx1 at the moment so I can't send you any pics. There are some pics on my build that you can look at but they aren't very clear.

Definitely an FX chamber and it looks like it's fitting OK from the pics.
Umm.......I mean it's obviously not an FX pipe. I can't believe someone sold you that thing. I feel so bad about your situation that I'll give you $50 for it just to ease your pain ;)

thats a mod chamber. i have the same one in my fx-1 and fits the same. theres pics of it installed in my build thread. my buddy has a true fx-1 chamber in his fx-1 and has about an inch clearance where the bend in the pipe meets the corner of the tank. unless fpp is making them differently now then they used to. that aint a fx-1 chamber. it will work though. just stick apiece of turf between the pipe and the hull. make sure you replace it once it wears out though.
There seems to be some question as to whether you have the right chamber. I sold an FX-1 chamber a while ago:

There are some pics of it for comparison. It looks pretty much the same, but maybe if you spend some time looking you can see for sure.

Its def a FX1 pipe the dent under the stinger is the giveaway a mod chamber doesnt have that

Also a mod chamber would have a weld around the center of the pipe where it is shortened

I bought this from Blowsion. They say something on their website about modifying SJ chambers to fit the FX-1. I have to wonder if they sold me one of the modified SJ chambers considering how tight it is and the disagreement here on whether its a true FX-1 chamber or not.
So heres the question. Should I use this pipe or call them on it? I just spent $700+ on this so I'm a little dissapointed that its not fitting very well. I haven't ran the ski yet, so I'm not even sure if it will be an issue or not.

Yea, I'll make it work. I guess reinforcing my hull is out the question though.

Ok this discussion got the best of me.
I bought an FPP FX-1 pipe direct from Factory Pipe in December and just went out and looked at it and took pics. I was so worried about it hitting the motor mount area I never really paid attention to the pipe to the hull. I ran a pull strap around it and it may be touching the fiberglass about even with the front of the cylinder. I have had it out 4 times in the last 2 weeks and havn't noticed any problems.
Guess I will pull it soon just to see how much it rubs if any.

Yeah, that's the same spot mine has been hitting for 9 years now.........no prob!
I have 3 FX pipes and it's definitely an FX pipe......don't worry, just run it!
