How about relocating it to Muskegon? North Muskegon has a very long State Park beach, lots of parking, launch ramps, campgrounds, hotels/motels, restaurants, etc..... and it's easy to get to.
I will be there sometime in May if the organizers need any help with preliminaries, or?

If you are in the right part of that state park you will see practically no one in either direction along the beach, cops or otherwise. We've gotten buck wild out there a number of times with no troubles. There are over 3 miles of frontage and hardly anyone uses it away from the main parking areas. I guess that's the problem tho, tough to get to those areas if you're not on a ski (minimal roadside parking and a lengthy walk through the dunes).

It would be nice to be near a pier so if the waves are up we can hit them where they are clean. How far would this place be from grandhaven?
It's 15 miles by hwy from Grand haven to Muskegon.

Remember the amount of ski's we'll have, people will notice.

Grand haven suxs! yes theres plenty of talet running around but the cops are totally against us. the ride though the channel blows because its like 3miles long. you cant have gas on the beach. cant park on the beach unless your out of the swim zone which is also 3miles long. cant ride the surf because of the sea or people. overall for skiing its gay! what about ludington? theres a mom pop camp ground south of the pier. cant remember the name. could be an idea.
Dustin Mustangs

Grand Haven does not have even close to 3 miles of frontage for their beach so they certainly don't have a 3 mile swim zone. Regardless, it would indeed be a horrible place for a freeride.

I actually like claybanks alot. Yeah the steps suck but the beach is beautiful. I dont think there were really too many probs last year that I heard about. As long as they let us have it there this year I say lets keep it there. We are only gonna get bigger every year and take up more of the campground which means less complaints from non riders. My vote is keep it the same.

i dont understand why people were complaining anyway noone was causeing trouble
yea people were drinking haveing a good time but nothing was getting broke or out of controll so i dont understand why people were bitching the people next to us were bitching because we were loud and drinking but we didnt even get wild or anything and yes the stairs sucked a fat one but o well not everything can be perfect if they would just let us drink and fire the ********ing geek squad for security guards that they had we would be ok

both superjetdave and i got told twice to turn down our music. It was quiet as chit too. the only reason we had it on in the first place was to drowned out the laughing hyenas in the background (wedding party) who were really loud and obnoxious. I complained about them but no one cared. they came back and asked me again I tried to reason with them... but to no avail.:grumble:
Those guards were seriously prejudice against all our jetski campsites. I didn't understand it. I mean...seriously who doesn't like the sound and smell of jetskis revving up at 7 or 2 in the morning. :ugh2:

We will be going to the township meeting again this year. More info to come, I beleive the dates are set, CGracing is the promoter of this event, I'm helping cause I live closer and I'm willing to go the township meetings. We need donations for the raffle, new stuff, nothing like, "here's a used piece of turf!" nothing like that!
Call your buddies from around the country and tell them about this ride, lets get this thing going again and get it huge.
Also, remember we are guest at this park, so we have to play by there rules. All in all they were pretty cool last night the security guards were doing there job enforcing the rules, like or not. I didn't hear of any one getting kicked out or that the cops were called. To my knowledge we are still planning this event at Claybanks. If others want to plan another ride at another park feel free, that just means more people see what a great area we have in mid to northern Michigan!
One more thing and the most important thing People from the township are watching this website and thread, so Please stop bashing Claybanks and Please stop telling people what we should and should not do to the security guards. We on the boards realize that your joking, but others may not think it is to funny.
Who nows maybe in the next couple of years we could lease the whole campground and be a little more relaxed on the quiet hour rules. But for now we have to live with in there guide lines.
There are very few campground on the beaches of lake Michigan and even fewer that will let 60+ jetski's ride right from there beach and park on the beach.
Come on guys they don't even make those things any more, so were a dying bread! LOL

Since everybody hates the steps anyway ,and most of the riders are athletic people , I suggest a race to the top of the stairs , timed event , one at a time ,anybody over 50 years old gets a 1 flight of stairs handicap, winner gets a case of beer or something ! '' btw nobodys 50 ''lol

Yeah since there is no GA ride this year this is the ride to come to. This is a beautiful piece of beach on clean fresh water with surf. The campground is a little rustic and the steps suck but it is a really nice ride. We try to get there 3-4 times a year.

Bruins, thanks for all your hard work on this event. :arms:
I can't wait for this event, even if they have the security guards again it wasn't bad at all. I just hope the wedding party isn't there again...they were loud and got the benefit of the doubt from the security guards. :smashfreakB:
I am going to try to get some more people up there from my kzoo group adn maybe i can convince x2rags and x2addit to come up and ride too. As far as the campsite...i don't think we can find anything better. i didn't worry about leaving the skis on the beach. the setup is rustic and unique, the quintessential lake Michigan camping spot
The step race is an awesome idea Frank....let just keep it to one at a time...otherwise that would get crazy:crutches: I better start training.

The only problem with that staircase is the steps are too long and there are too many landings.........rest areas for fatsos?
It should be just one single staircase, straight up with short steps!

your not supposed to stop ! there are benches along the way too but that doesent mean you can use them LOL . its one continous full throttle sprint 120 to 140 steps i think . BTW :you have a free invitation to run it when you get here . sounds like your a shoe-in !
Shoe-in...that's funny!:stooges:
btw, I have been there for the last 2 years, my biggest problem is launching at that place north of there and having to ride/walk my ski for 1/4 of a mile, in 3 inches of water until you get to the big lake!!:banghead:
Maybe there should also be some kind of on water competition, like a timed slalom event, where each rider gets to race against the clock on a buoy course.
Different classes, stock, unlimited, pro, novice...., whatever.
Riva Yamaha has done this for years in Key Largo FL. always fun, always a ton of people and awards for the top 3 in each class, bragging rights...etc

20min by car. by water it depends on what type of craft. standup probably about 30-35min. 70+mph boat, well, 10min or so.
there really isn't any "destination" in silver lake on the water though, no harbor, channel, major beach, etc except for the ORV beach and the lighthouse.

Drive to the campground,
drop off your stuff on the beach,
drive to the lauch ramp (about 2 miles north)
launch your ski and ride it back to the campground beach
(If there is no one to drive your vehicle back, you can park it in the lot at the ramp, I think it is $5 or 10 for the day).
