I couldn't find a write up on fitting a RN hand pole to a Kawi 750 sx, sxi, or sxi pro hull. So here goes. Start with a stock RN pole (thanks to Aqua for the hook up)
50587
First I cut about 1/4" off the bottom tip of the pole. Placed in a chop saw squared up makes a nice clean cut.
50589
After that was removed you need to grind a little off the corners. Rounding the corners help to match the contour of the factory pole bracket.
50590
Inside the stock pole bracket there is a nub that needs to be ground down so the RN pole can have full movement all the way up. Before grinding
50591
After grinding

After all the grinding you should be able to turn the bracket all the way around the pole. Ta Da!!!! I won't be reusing the stock rubber pole stop on the sxi bracket. I'll be using a piece of Hydro-Turf instead and also using a limiting strap.
50593
Now its time to take my plans to my buddy that works at a machine shop to turn out some one piece bushings to take up the space left over from the RN pole being narrower than the sxi pole in the bracket. Washers can be used to get the same outcome.

Thanks Dirtybird
Here is a small update. I got my steering plate today in the mail. Thanks Yamaha415. I took it straight to the sandblast cabinet and got all the ugly olive drab green off so I can repaint it black.
Seems the difference between Yamaha and Kawasaki is the steering hookup is on the opposite sides of each other. So after the sand blasting I drilled a 3/16" hole on the opposite side of the stock yamaha steering. Then I ran a 6mm x 1.0p tap to fit the stock Kawasaki steering ball. So far so good. Tomorrow night I will fit the steering cable inside the hand pole and look to see how it will route to the left side of the pole.

to give you some increase the steering ratio you can build a little extension plate that extends out the side of the stock steering plate.

Thanks It should look the same as when it was on your 04' just attached to an sxi. Now sell me that chin pad off your 08' :naughty: I still need one.

I thought about doing that but side by side with my Kawi shortened turn plate it matches the middle cable mount hole. If I need more throw I can always add a bracket to move the mount out to get more throw. Once its ridden and tested I decide if it needs more.

there you go. sounds good. easy enough to add an extension plate later.

sxi's look awesome with the yami pole. is that steering cable crossing over to the opposite side of the turn plate? won't that reverse your steering?

Kawis steering cable goes on the left side. Yamahas are on the right.
Looks good I haven't gotten around to finish mine yet. Too many small projects to work on all at once. I started to shorten my RN pole but haven't finished that yet either.

What a good friend you have
We need to get that cable holder mounted to the other side.... looks like something bad waiting to happen. But I guess you do have three spare cables now. :fing02:

Does anyone know if you can do this with an FX-1 pole as well, or is that a totally different monster?

The only issue I saw is the superjet poles have the metal bases on them allowing you to cut it. I am afraid the fx-1 poles are fiberglass the the bottom?

Out of curiosity... What are all the parts needed to do this switch and whats a ball park cost.
I know you need the RN pole and turn plate and chin pad. Any thing else...
Also I saw a pole for sale for 120 so lets use that as a starting point...
Thanks for any info.

All of what you stated and to use the stock kawi pole bracket you need to measure the inside width of the bracket and the width at the pole pivot hole to figure out how thick of spacers you need to center the pole, take the difference between the 2 numbers and divide it in half-the thickness of each spacer needed.. I can't remember how thick mine are, like 3/8" or something..
I was able to cut my stock spring and rebend the one end that pushes on the pole to make it work, I am not sure how a SJ one would work since I never had one to try. The way I did mine it worked great during the mockup.
You have to also modify the upper bracket on the left side to get the strg cable out that side to work properly.. I am waiting for my friend to get my ski painted in the next week or so then I will get assembly pics.. he is dragging his feet and I am chomping at the bit! I am lucky and have access to tooling to make my modifications and a couple friends that are aluminum fabricators.. Only costs me mechanical work in trade for their skills...
The $120 for the pole is a decent price.. excellent if it comes with the chinpad and turnplate...

Cool. I saw the modifications you have to do to the pole and the stock bracket.
The pole is just a bare pole. So, and it was blue, id like to find a black one.
Not sure if and or when im going to do this, but it would be cool.

120 for a bare stock pole is a bit high. I got mine for 100. i have seen some stok 08-09 poles for 75 plus shipping on here before and the 08-09 poles are 2 or 3"shorter than the 96-07 rn poles.. A chinpad is a hard to find item too.. If one is listed it is usually gone very quickly. the stock turn plate will work fine, you just have to redrill & thread the plate to moe the cable ball to the left side too. I found a tbm shortened plate and umi brg kit on ebay last week. I have the stock plate sitting now. I think it will be a good upgrade.. and I can always shorten it if I don't like it the length it is, unlike the stock kawi poles.

Cool. It sounds and looks like a cool mod. How much shorter are the RN poles aginst my Pro pole.

I don't know how long the pro pole is.. It was a few inches shorter from what I remember from my stock sx pole..

Guys,
Quality thread, inspired me to do the same mod!
Anyone got a pic of the routing through the top of the pole and what they did with the steerer bracket?
Been thinking what to do and seems there are a few options, one being grinding some of the raised bit on the left to allow full swing?

I am using a SJ turnplate if that is what you are talking aobut.. with a stock plate you have to drill and tap the left side of the plate to move the cable ball to the correct side.. I'll take a pic of the mod to the upper of the pole I had to do tonight..

So here is the cut and weld that I had to have done to get clearance for the cable on the left side.....

Awesome,
Looks like a real tidy job with that welded section.
Only problem is i've not got a welder to hand :-(
Anyone got around this without welding?
