In preparation for the 08 season, a inspection of the pump revealed a reduction nozzle issue... some Broken vanes. Hmmmm???, I had this blaster nozzle laying around for a replacement.
After riding WaveHog's and Special FX's ski's with the adjustable trim setup (which is really cool) it is time to give this a shot on the 144mm. Using a Kawi X2 Trim/steering nozzle arrangement, it amazingly fits perfect on the Yamaha/Blaster max flow Pro-Tec nozzle.
Since the Trim ring sets back the cable attach point about 1", I found a sprinkler riser extension worked out as well as a cable end extension. New heim joint ends eliminate all excess steering slop.
One thing I did notice is that the stock Yamaha 144mm reduction nozzle used 2,1mm shims between the ears and the hull. The Pro-tec Blaster nozzle need 4,1mm shims to do the same job.??
Test report soon...:smokin:

Hey Slug...welcome back! Sorry to hear about your driveline issues.
The advantage of using the Superjet RN steering cable with the Kawi 650-X2 nozzle is that you still get 25 degrees of nozzle deflection (each way from center,50degrees total). A little more than stock.

Ok...so here's the low-down on fine tuning the FX-1 pump conversion (650 Kawi OR 144mm Yamaha). After much testing (trial & much error), resolving the goofy handling issues has come down to this. The Kawi X-2 nozzle with trim must be used in order to get your boat to be ridable. The standard nozzle setup creates too much downward thrust that creates a high speed instability. (A weird nose down chine walk). You guys like to ride fast at times...don't you?
Another problem...the steering cable is too short to fit. Since the trim ring moves the steering nozzle about 1" back, you"ll need a cable extension. Either make a cable end extension, or move the whole cable back like I did (see the 1/2" riser pic in above post...BTW...use a PVC one, the marlex one breaks).
I ride around with the nozzle trimmed up part way most of the time (See pix below). Sorry for the ride/handling report delay...it took some time to get the details worked out.
Thanks goes out to Special-FX for the X-2 nozzle donation for EXPERIMENTATION.
Hang on! The FX-1 pump mod is well worth the effort!

Ok so i finally rode a ski with trim and it was a 750sx. Honestly i thought it sucked asss. It seems when u would pull the lever and bunny hop it the nose wanted to face down. Thats not what it should do, right? When i think of trim i think of hitting a sweet boat wake and getn the nose almost vertical, which i can do on my stock pump fx-1. Thats what should happen , right?

My 144mm pump adventure...http://www.x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=9841
interesting reviews flash...
I guess I need to get my ass in gear and get this f1 going..it uses a std. superjet shaft so it should handle WAY differently

I had the same issue with the first one I did, I thought I didnt get the pump angle correct with the firewall, turned out everything is in perfect alignment
I solved the issue by using a protec blaster nozzle and a yam Raider trim ring and reduction nozzle
It kept the nozzle form sticking out so far I did have to make a 1 inch steering cable extension though
as far as adjustment goes you can see the pics of how I did it
I use it as a Fixed trim by adjusting the nut on the back of the tray, For surf riding it takes a substantial amount of up thrust to keep from subbing

The original "trim" systems were designed for closed course racing. At the start line you would pull in the lever to make the nozzle point downward to aid in the launch to the first turn (thats prolly what your buddy's 750sx is set up for). In later years the idea was reversed to make the nozzle point upward for freestyle tricks (backflips and such). The trim we are using has no levers or cables, but it is a "set it" and ride kinda thing. It really compensates for other
issues (thrust line, pump diameter...ect).

Yep...Get that thing together! I'd like to see that boat in Daytona this year...
& don't forget the "trim". BTW my current ski uses a '05 SJ drive shaft.

Secret specs! Love the adjustment! Good job!
I didn't really care about the nozzle sticking out the back (I'm just glad it works). Are any of you guys using the SJ steering cable for the extra nozzle travel?

So you guys have it set up with no cables and levers? I was wanting to do that but couldn't figure out how. How do they ride just cruis'n around? Alot of cavatation?

No cables and or levers, just a simple adjustable nozzle. The stock angle that is "pre-set" at yamaha might be good for a stock SJ, but it has too much down for my FX. (a high speed handfull). I like to have the nozzle cranked up a little...higher than stock for high speed, lower it down in the surf. It works great.
:dunno: Cavitation :dunno: from the nozzle adjusted up a little?
