Thinking of adding a scupper or one way valve to my ski while im doing my foothold project(makes it a lot easier), and was wondering which one I should get?
Thanks,
Aaron

Depends on your riding: scupper drains more, but leaks more. My ski sometimes has to float in the water when I'm not riding it, so the scupper is a no go for me. If your ski is always moving while it's in the water then a scupper is the way to go.

One Way
Pros - Doesnt leak much when sitting in water, cheaper
Cons - If broken, is a bitch to replace. Doesnt drain as fast
Scupper
Pros - Drains like crazy. Easy two min fix if broken, looks snazzy!
Cons - LEAKS! You can float for a bit if you have pumps on, but nothing very long
I personally went with scupper. I have a beach area that i stay at when not riding so it works out great for me.

I have a scupper and I also have to have my ski floating now and then because of my lift. I went to home depot and got a piece of pvc and a plug. When I have to leave it in the water I put the plug in and no leaks.

Yup - I did the same with my one way, but I like the one way in case I forget. As Jesse says, I'm not looking forward to the day it breaks: it's a lot of work to replace it.

I wanted to do a one way, but dont need it to break on me.
I decided on a scupper, until i figured that I do leave my ski floating when we ride and take breaks, alot, and if I park at my buddies it just floats, and with a scupper it wouldnt float long
so I did neither, but I might do one or the other next winter.

My round has dual valves and dual scuppers with side rear exhaust. It's the only way to go IMO if you have the ski that far apart.

yes and 2 bilge pumps. I got tired of my 24/7 scupper leaking in when you stop to rest or talk to someone. Also having to hit the bilge switch or holding the rubber scupper closed with my hand. It was the old style with no alum plate, but still Im sure it leaks it too. So i said fock it and put the home depot valves and bougth another scupper.

so.... how does that work? you have a one way built into a scupper on both sides?

Post pics? Thats boggling my mind...2 scuppers...2 one ways and 2 pumps...you plan on doing any submarine rescue missions? Russia is always in trouble these days.

What would be the point of putting a scupper on a one way valve?

Not sure. It might help protect the one way from water impact when landing on the tail, but I pushed mine about 18 inches up inside the hull to stop that.

Never leave a ski (standup) floating regardless of scupper or oneway......... they have a habbit of sinking...... Water will flow up the exhuast tube and fill the waterbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your 1-way ever breaks, you can always cover the exit with a scupper.

It just grey pvc with home depot valve up inside about halfway and scupper flange/flapper on the back of the ski. I just did it for double protection and since i had the ski cut open for footholds it was they way to go.

I stop and talk to peeps in the water and take a floating break sometimes. That damn scupper leaked like a sive. Was always having to hit the bilge...
This way I have double protection.

Not all one ways are small and ugly,
This is an ATP through hull bilge, designed to be a mirror image of the standard superjet exhaust.
2" pipework all the way through means it empty's faster than my wallet does when the girlfried get hold of it :)

Works really well actually, ive often tied my ski up and left it long enough for me to get a cup of tea or a beer and sit with the lads for a break and it hardly leaks at all.
It empty's the ski faster than anythin else ive seen too. Its billet construction means it wont break when landing from big jumps (well hasnt broke yet!)
Personally i think it looks dead cool too

Only one on each side of the ski and my exhaust goes out the right rear side.
Sounds cool. It protects the one way but doesnt leak like a scupper. Why didnt you bring this up in the past 113?

I'm not talking about this thread...I knew what you were talking about in this thread.....in the past as in the PAST PAST.....
I'm running the Home depot scupper and mounted it on the firewall end. When it sites there is always enough pressure to keep it from leaking couse ther is a whole tube of water pushing against the flap, unlike the Blowsion one mounted at the rear. Mone doesnt seem to leak at all. and I think when mounted at the rear it takes a lot more abuse.
That thing is in good, if it ever goes out, I'm just gonna screw a 24/7 valve on it.
BIgKahuna, what are you talking about??? The exhaust tube travels at an upward angle so when it comes into the ski it is above the water line. Water will equalize in the tube, but will not travel up farther than the bond line/waterline. If your ski is sinking like this, you have a bigger problem.

In Ketsair ski we installed a home depot check valve and we also centered the PVC outlet incase the valve ever went bad we could just take a rod and knock a hole through the check valve and install a 24/7 scupper.

Im not running either. I ride flatwater 85% of the time and I also leave the ski in water overnight so a large bilge system works best for me. If I were going to do it I would use the home depot valve.but thats my oppinion.

which one did you use? a 2" with a 1/2 # spring?
these look like you don't have to make such a big hole to install.
i want to put something like this near the firewall, and a scupper on the back.
right now i have a single 1100 rule, but it doesn't seem to pump much more than the 500 after reducing the hose from 1-1/8 to 3/4 especially when the coupler is spinning and churning everything up.

I used this one:
PVC Adjustable Spring Check Valves
77920 1225-20 5 lbs. 2" 9 3/4"
Except I cut the valve in half, changed out the spring to a 1/2 pounder, glued it back together (adding an extra 1/4" of throw) and reinforced the "seam" by using a piece of PVC as a sleeve. I probably won't do that again though, it was a little too much work.
Here's a couple of pics of mine. The valve is about a foot from the firewall, so it's "protected".

I have the newer 24-7 scupper with alum plate. I have very little leakage. We sat on the skis and paddled around at party cove last year for 3 or 4 hours (looking at the girls) anyhow I had to use my bilge like maybe once an hour so that isn't much leakage. I can definiteally live with that since it flows so much water.

ha, I saw those flo one-ways on a clearance sale at my neighbors shop, like 8 bucks or something less.
Will water pressure from forward motion really be enough to open the spring? They seemed pretty tough to open to me. They had one with a weaker spring, but it seemed cheap and prone to breaking. I think Ill just stick with my 360 GPH bilge for now.

I run a scupper from XFT, 3 inch keeps my ski totally dry and doesn't leak when the ski is floating. A little pricey but you get what you pay for.

If you change the oem 5 lb spring out for a 1/2 lb spring, they work just fine. Otherwise, I don't think there will ever be enough pressure to open the 5 lb one.
