lanyard questions on x2

who is using one on x2, good idea?, which switch would fit

I'm using the 650 start stop switch with the Laynard front plate. It works fine for me. I've encountered 2 things that suck with the laynard. 1) Because of how you get on the ski, you can't really have the laynard hooked to your vest. The result is that you have to hook it to your wrist 2) the second problem is now that the laynard is on your wrist instead of your vest, it can get wrapped arround the bars (and it can drag you a bit before it breaks at high speeds, I know). A possible solution is to wear the the laynard on your right wrist if the switch is mounted on the left side of the bars. I find that awkward though and keep it on my left wrist and just try to be concious of the fact that it can become tangled.

In either case, I swear by laynards. I'd have 2 skis at the bottom of the ocean if I didn't have them. I once had a carb spring break and it didn't return to idle. I also broke my battery tray loose and it slid back into the throttle, holding it open. Both times would have sucked w/o a laynard.

I'm sure x-2's didn't come with a lanyard until about 1995. If your ski is older than that you don't need one.
If you still want one the start/stop face plate for the TS model sitdown should be a direct swap and came with a lanyard.

Oh, as for which switch will fit... any switch will fit, it just depends on how much wiring you want to do. ANy Kawi switch should be pretty easy to set up. There are some other options that would work for you.

2 of these for start/stop http://www.wakularacing.com/SHURSTOP.jpg I understand these are pretty durable but I've never seen on in person or got any reall solid feedback on them.

Maybe not those exactly but something similar. My start/stop switch is working just fine for me right now so I'm not going to spend the money quite yet. They are $30 each, but I like the idea. The biggest reason I haven't done it is I like the start/stop switch but I don't really like the laynard switch. You could potentially just add the laynard switch like that one to your current set up.

I've also thought about using those but I was just going to use one Shurstop to start and use the EMGO kill switch for the stop. Since you have to have the lanyard to start it, it's just as easy to pull the lanyard to stop it and do away with the stop button all together. Just wasn't sure if the shurstop could be used as a start button.

I've also looked at the jetskisolutions switch to be used with the EMGO kill switch.

The start/stop switch is easy to find. It's the Laynard cover that's hard to find. There's very few of them. I have like 7 start/stop switches and only one with the laynard cover.

Most 650SX covers are not set up for a laynard. I'm using a 650SX switch, but the laynard cover came from an X2, and even that may have been taken from another ski before I got that X2.

Nothin, my neighbor and his TS thought it was stupid. Its really no good using it in the surf at all, almost dangerous around here. I do however us it at the lake.

I am not really sold on the laynard style switch either,it is the main reason I sank my boat a couple of weeks ago,of course riding with the hood off might have played a minor role in that fiasco.

The 650 SX and 650 X2 never ever came with a lanyard. On certain years there is an option on the parts diagram but they will try to sell you the whole switch which costs around 275 bucks!

W-Nut posted the right part number for a 750 SS or 650 TS style face plate. This is the same face plate I posted in my other thread. If you search my username you can also find another thread about some stock parts i bought. There is a pic of the same style face plate with the lanyard attachment.

Not necessilary a cheaper route but you could buy a 440/50 style start/stop switch from Sweetemos on eBay. Then the 750/800 style face plate with lanyard connection is around 32 bucks and will bolt right up giving you a lanyard connection.

As for me... I personally don't like lanyards at all. The ones I bought are more for when others ride my X2.

Someone on the boards is selling the adapters for the older style(two on top) switches. I need to get a cover. For the same season as DB, when people ride my ski it flips me out. I personally don't care to be attached. But I don't want all my hard work to hit the dock about 35 this spring either.

If you get a laynard, I'd suggest you leave it attached when storing the ski. The laynard simply depresses the stop button when it's not there. If it's not attached, then the stop switch is permantly being pushed down, which can reduce the life of the button underneeth the face plate.

im not sure if the x2's never came with a kill switch, but mine doesn't have one. i have a 94 x2 and almost sunk it surf riding last weekend. i was stupid enough to let it get away from me in the first place, but i would like to have a kill switch for surf riding and when other people ride it. do i need to get a new start/stop box that has a place for a lanyard on the stop button? i know this is how other kawis work so im wondering if i can just get a box from one of those and install it on mine?

That's the way I went to, yeah a real easy install.

I agree and disagree. I saw a thread years back on PWCT where the guy was trailering his 750 SX or SXi to the water and it started up on its own. It basically melted everything down inside the engine and engine compartment because it ran so hot for so long without cooling water. He had the lanyard hooked up while driving...

But yeah, I would leave mine hooked up to keep the button new.

I went to my local Kawi dealer and ordered up a few of just the face plate to have a couple of extra ones. I forget how much they are a piece but i think like 60 or 70 bux or something along those lines.

This will work but obviously you have to change all the wireing and/or switches. Not just a face plate swap out like the others.
