I want to start re-turffing my ski and add a set of footholds.
Question#1 What tools r needed to remove and replace and inst. FH's
#2 Who makes the best fitted kit w/rickter FH
I want to use hydro turff (Diamond, maybe in a color other than grey).
#3 About how long from start to finish.
#4 Whats not in directions I might need to know about inst. new mats and FH's
#5 What materials r needed to remove old turff glue and install FH
I've never worked with fiberglass before:scared: what do i need to know about this stuff?
#6 Do the kits come with all the necessary materials.
AS u can tell i've never done this before ,but I want to do it ( I need a winter proj until riding season starts so I 've got alot of time :Banane01: )
THANKS HAMMER

An angle grinder with a good cutoff wheel works great for cutting out glass to install the footholds.
Of course, you'll need glass, epoxy, and maybe screws.
How long? Depends on you, really. The whole job, deturf, install holds, returf....8-24 hours.
Old turf glue comes off with paint thinner, or use a sander.

Wo wo wo dude, slow down.
Have a look at a few footholds to see what you loke the lokk, fit and finish of.
Try to find ones with smooth lines, this makes mat fitting easier.
The kits do not come with materials
You will definitly need,
battery drill
a small jigsaw of somekind to cut the cavities out
rivit gun + pop rivits, put footholds in
silicone sealant, seal footholds in
can of expanding foam , fills foothold cavity once installed
Sander helps when cleaning and preping new surfaces.
Glass matting and resin or a premix fibregalss kit. glass in foothold edges
contact adhesive for mat kit
heat gun or hair dryer to warm glue and turf.
Start to finish if you spend the time making a really nice job will be at least a day.
Think thats everything
One more thing.......
TAKE YOUR TIME and get it right first time

Okay im a 12 in Jet Pilot boots
Alot of people seemto like the rickters for big fat feet.
Saw Yamasluts pics on Superjetts site of his FH's and turff job I thought looked neat/tight and saaweet(Nice job slut)so i based my decision on others experience's.
Have most of the tools u guys mentioned except a angle grinder w/cut-off wheel(I'll get, can never have to many tools).
Thanks for the advice so far
Don't plan on rushing it, ski's are garaged with room to work on them.

I wear 12 1/2. I put in Malone foot holds and got plenty of room. For cutting the glass a dremel tool works good too.Put a drill bit in it.

I used a dremel with a roto-zip bit and it cut like butter.

roto-zip bit,is that an accessory for a dremel by dremel?
How about a small router or i've been looking but can't find a small electric right angle grinder?. I love to buy tools!

Welcome to X-H20.
Footholds are cutouts in the side of the back part of the tray to keep your feet in place for doing rolls or flips .:headbang:

hang what type of holds are those?
and Hammer make sure you glass thge area between the foothold, i just pulddedthe turf off my ski and both the footholds were coming apart from the base, alowing water to flow freely.
its a bad pic but you can see the crack.

Yeah T-Bone thanks for the heads up!
I plan on laying some glass on top of that seam.
after i screw/rivet the foothold in place
Then 2 part epoxy around the entire seam of the foothold and ski
Remove screws, epoxy holes, sand then glass it nice and tight.
I got cyclone footholds and turff from Wamilton, He totally hooked me up!!
He's the man!.

.
I got them from a friend but I'm pretty sure they are Blowsion Diggers .
I would also recommend putting some fiberglass mat between your footholds for added strength :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

funny thing happened, i took the old foot holds out of the tray thinking the foam had to be saturated, it wasnt , its as dry as new ,i even dug a small hole out of the center and still dry.
now i dont know why because the foothold defently were cracked. there is however a air gap between the foam, ill post i pic in a little bit.

its hard to tell, but there is a 3/4'' air gap in the foam, its like they filled the bottom with foam then the top and then assembled the two halfs.

I've seen that before. My current ski was hollow under the tray above the pump. Also my buddies ski was hollow up in the front of the tray which caused the tray to crack:261: .

If you buy the Blowsion kit which is a pint kit (2 pints ,1 of each material ) it will be plenty for what you need .:headbang:
