i'm doing the 144 sj pump conversion in my fx1. pump and driveshaft have been sent off to bonzai bob for him to do his fx1 voo doo magic on my pump.(hopefully he has received it)

i pried the pump shoe out and started grinding away. i went from 122 mm up to 130mm at which point i started coming through in several spots.

since the shoe is hollow i thought i would fill the voids with epoxy and filler and keep grinding away. the problem is trying to get anywhere close to 144mm would mean i would have nothing left of the shoe......so i ordered a 144 aluminum shoe from blowsion, $ 97 shipped to me.

the pic of the shoe at 130 with the sj pump seal shows just how big a difference there is. some grinding and alittle work and i'll have the correct shoe in!

Nice work and that's one clean lookin' FX1.

That ski should hook up awesome with the larger pump assembly.

How much for the pump shoe you make?

Let us know what it takes to make the sj pump shoe fit. Take lots of pics and do a write-up. I might go this route down the road, have to see how the stock shoe and sj pump work out first.

What do people do for a scoop grate when running the SJ shoe?

Relocate the front section and use a SJ grate.

It was a little bit of a project. The Blowsion shoes outer dimensions are "oversized" just a little bit, because when you take the stocker out of a SJ, you need one slightly larger to fill the void.

I have a stock alum shoe from a SJ, its 144, but slightly smaller outer dimensions, pm if your interested in trading. I was gonna buy the Blowsion one for my SJ, the one I have has the smaller outer dimensions and is a little small for my SJ.

started grinding on the pump shoe area of the hull this week end. also on the crappy blowsion shoe.

pretty sweet looking pump huh?

sanding drums and a die grinder are your friend.

when doing this conversion ....
do you just grind the hull untill the 144 shoe fits?
then put fx1 shaft in 144 pump?
every thing bolt up?
i dont have a fx1 but my bud has 3 of them
pump him up!

vomit, first send a 144 pump and a fx1 driveshaft along with $650 to bob.
i've ground and sanded on both the shoe and the hull. i kept working at it until i could get the pump with the seal on the front to line up with the 4 inserts in the hull.

i'm ready to butter up the shoe and seal it in the hull. one remaining problem i need to work on is the shoe hangs app. 3/8" below the hull. i'd think this might effect handling so i'm going to try and remove some of this.

if i'd do this again i'd probably go with a stock plastic sj shoe. to late now.
also i'm going to have to grind a small amount on the rideplate. 1 inch in length in two spots.

i would say that bob does amazing kick ass work!!!

You are on the right track, you do need to grind the shoe down and make sure the intake grate is not to low either. If left hanging to far down it will create some serious handling issues.

nice work, I don't know why you ground the hull, I didn't need to? one of us has the center line of driveshaft off a bit I think. unless the hulls are way off.

tom you must be a better man than i to install a blowsion shoe where a fx1 use to be.

I'm not- I've not done it, just heard its been done. or more to the point, the stock sj one. since the blowsion one is a replacement for that.....

from your pic it doesn't look like much will be left by the time you finish grinding!?

don't forget to remove the bearing carrier and make sure the pump is aligned and inspect your carrier for seperation.

any of you have pics of different rideplates? Not seen a whole lot of em just wondering whats out there.

ahh my bad- you guys were talking about grinding the pump area for the shoe:doh:

I thought you were saying you had to grind for the pump to fit in the hull.

sorry- don't pay attention to the old dude.:Flush:

All those aluminum replacement pump shoes are a little rough. Grinding on both the shoe and hull are necessary for a really good fit. The R&D the one I used was like those from Blowsion.

yeah the blowsion shoe blows but it's doable.
no problem tom. old dude huh? i bet i'm quite afew years ahead of you!

pumps in. worked on fitting rideplate. had to notch around the shoe and do some grinding on one of the ribs on the plate to clear the bolt head on the pro tec steering nozzle.

about time to flip it over and put it back together.

now in the my ski section under "grandpa's fx1". enjoy.

did you use the original fx pump nozzle? not the steering but the other? it looks like there are spacers for the steering nozzle? is that because its pro tec cause the stock 144 st nozzle didn't seem to spaced that far out.

sjaholic
04-14-2008, 12:11 PM
tom used sj reduction nozzle. there are spacers between the two nozzles.
the pro tec is made for running a trim system. since there is no trim ring between the twoyou need the spacers.

i'd like to get it on the lake but it's been cold and the lake is at a record high. it was beautiful blue/green now chocolate brown full of branches, twigs and crap. big lake though over 60 miles long.

when did they start putting aluminum shoes in? I have never seen anything but the OEM plastic???

the pro-tec plate is the best for the fx1....the stocker is thin as a coke can, but the protec is pretty beefy..

mines a little long, but never felt a need to trim it down

I found that when I got my blowsion shoe in there was hardly a mm of difference between how the grate sat? Maybe I missed something..
