Put-In-Bay Island Freeride 2008.
This year is going to be full of great oppertunities to get out and ride!
Since this is the first year for the Put-In-Bay Island Freeride on the X-H20 Freeride Tour - I would like to start this out by making this a true X-H20 Freeride that is designed by the riders:
Please post any ideas and comments you can think of to help make this freeride the shiznit.
If you have been to Put-In-Bay (PIB) please post up some comments so people get a feel for what the place is like!
Put-In-Bay (also called Southbass Island by some) is a beautiful island right off the coast of Ohio in Lake Erie. You can camp for a very affordable rate at the State Park located on the island: see pics.

44669
My friends and I have done the Put-In-Bay trip each year for about the past 5 years to escape the everyday world for a few days.
The dates for this freeride are August 7,8,9,10. --> the 10th is just a day to get packed up and come home for us, but others may decide to ride that day.... it's up to you!
The location is the boat ramp at the South Bass Island State Park (AKA Put-In-Bay State Park)
A ferry can take your car across the lake(see rates below).
There are campsites located at the Southbass Island State Park where you can launch your ski about 200 yards from your site!
There are also other places to stay on the island such as the Island Club www.islandclub.com and a few hotels (camping is much cheaper).
The ferry makes many trips every day, so you can make this trip fit your schedule.
44670
If you want to come: make a reservation at anytime... the campsites usually fill up quickly starting about 1-2 months before the dates, and the Island Club will be full much sooner.
There is a map of the campground on the reservation link below so you can pick your own site.
Camping prices are very reasonable.
There is a TON of things to do on the island other than just ski. Winery, bars, restaurants, shops, history, bars, bars, bars.... there is never any problem finding things to do...

That's all the background info.

Looks like a cool place. I can't even make Daytona this year thats an hour away. Looks like it would be a fun trip.
Will they let you anchor nearby? Have a friend who keeps a boat at Mienke.

btw... the waves on the lake are usually small/medium in this area, but the boats around the island are big and put off some very nice wakes... and the boats go by constantly.

They have docks you can rent on the other side of the island. You can also rent docks from the State Park, but it is in a different part of the island as well. The State Park dock rentals are cheaper most likely. You can also anchor out in the water in a designated area and get a water taxi to the island if I remember right...

WooHoo! Put-out bay !! drunk girlz and boats.. Maybe I can get a hall pass from the wife.
I got a pass that is good for one trip to PIB every year with the guys.... :-)
BTW- the campground is also a very nice place to bring the wife and kids or girlfriend as well. The island gets a little crazy at night (which some of you will like very much!), but the campground remains very calm. Rangers patrol the campground very regularly and keep the noise level down pretty well.
The campground is on the other side of the island from all the restaurants, bars, shops, etc... but taxis are available ALL the time and do not charge much. You can call the taxi # and they will pick you up at your campsite within minutes, and it only takes about a 3 minute drive to get to downtown PIB. You can call the same # anywhere on the island and they will drop you back off at the campsite at anytime during the day or night.
We drive our car during the day, but at night when we drink we always use the taxi.
Also, the facilities are VERY nice at the campground. - Private lock-door showers & flush toilets - all very nice and clean
All campsites are pretty good size and have a fire ring and picnic table

Ericfox

Usually highs in the low 80's / upper 70's. Water temps I do not know... but I don't wear a wetsuit there and it is very comfortable skiing all day.

PUTANG BAY !!!!!!!! Good call Eric. Absolutely the best summertime party location in the midwest. Ill try to get my crew to bring up some party boats so we can throw a few back on the B dock. I posted a photo of the new pool close to the docks. There is a whole other side and party boat attached to that pool. You dont have to stay their to use it. It is the place to be during the day. At night the docks are hittin hard.

Yeah,
DOES THIS LOOK FAMILIAR?
If you see us out this spring stop by. It is almost directly across from Johnson island. We always have a buoy course set up. In the backround is Cedar Point and the bridge to Johnsons. Behind that to the right is the sand bar. See ya there!

No, Thats not us. Its not the one you see from route 2. Ive only seen couches over there. You need to get off at the Marblehead exit and turn right. Make a left at the drive thru and were down past Dempseys and Otays Pizza on the right hand side by the war monument. Their is a bathtub filled up with flowers at the end of our street.

If your gonna be with your Dad everything will be good. Their is alot for the family to do. There is a new waterpark going in right now at PIB. It should be open this summer. Taking a Bass boat across to P.I.B is risky tho. The lake can get real rough.........quick. I wouldnt take my kids to the bay on a small bass boat. Put the your ski in the back of his truck and take the ferry across.

He should be OK. If it does get rough he could always pull it out or pay for a public dock slip and have a good party location all night long. This is what I would do. How old are you?

Going to bump this thread every couple months until the trip.
There has been one big change to our plans. We are now planning on staying at the Island Club - www.islandclub.com as long as we have enough people... if we cant get enough people- then we will just camp...
My friends expressed the desire to do something different this year, so we are going to give the Island Club a try. I will still be at the State Park every day- all day with the ski.
If anyone wants to stay in the house with us - let me know. I may be able to work something out. There will be a deposit of $100 (my friends are giving me the same deposit). The State Park is definately the cheaper....but this place should be pretty cool.
Hopefully I can talk a few of you freestyle guys into coming up... my friend rides a GP1300R....I wish my friends all rode standups...

Dude, this will be a KILLER time for anyone who has never been there. Put-In-Bay is like Spring break for people in thier 20's 30's EVERY WEEKEND all summer long. It gets INSANE at night. 10,000 partiers every night. I like the Round House Bar the best. The Island Club is a killer hotel. They have a pool with a Bar in the middle of it!
The state park is beautiful and is very rural and quiet. It is about 1/2 mile from downtown and all the action. I have never ridden there. I am guessing that it will be quite flat on the South side of the Island with HUGE cruisers making wakes every couple minutes. I am gonna try to make this ride...

I rode some killer 4-5 footers in that park once. Free ramp 2 seconds from your camp site! I rode all weekend non stop while everyone else drank. And then I passed out all night and did the same thing for 2 more days.
It can potentially be big waves at that spot.

Hi Eric. This is Scott. I was the one from the islands area who bought your double trailer last year. How's your '07 project going. When I was up there it was showroom stock still...glad you decided to cut into it. That is going to be fun freeride weekend your planning. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to get ahold of me. I know of a few more killer wave spots around Marblehead and Cedar Point Sandusky Bay area.
I pretty much have half the summer dedicated to racing. But, this freeride falls on an open weekend between races. sweet... I'll be there and I'll bring some of our racers and riders from the area. Are the dates current? August 7-9 Thur to Sat....or Fri to Sun as they are posted. It's gonna be fun to meet some more freeride/style riders other than my tour bros and a few others. I race standups, so my crew mostly has those over couches. I picked up a tricked out superjet from up in Green Bay last October ready for some island waves.
There was a mention on the first page of this thread about a bouy course next to Rt. 2. That's me with the course in that cove as you cross the Edison Bridge. Got more skis than couches this past year. If anybody frequents the islands area and would ever like to stop by and run some buoys. Not a problem. Just shoot me a pm. First timers to veterans..everybody welcome.
DJKorn..you got that right..spring break all summer long for sure. Alot of us older partiers from the area have bolted to Kelley's Island some time ago. Always up for a good PIB run anytime though
cheers,
Scott

Hey MYBAD...you guys put up bouys over off Bayshore Rd.? You know the good wave spots in that area then too. We actually ride in that area as well. My race buddy lives on Bayview Rd off Bayshore past O'Tays. We ride over from Bayview and our buoy area that is seen off Rt. 2 in that cove.
Not an event like the freeride, but we throw out buoy's for the first time on May 3rd weekend in conjunction with a trip we make to Kelley's Island for Kentucky Derby Day that Saturday. Cougars in Derby Hats everywhere that early in the season. We're getting the itch bad to get in the water. We get lots of skis and couches to run from our area. Other than the area riders, we got some racers coming this year from Kentucky, Canada and Michigan. Anybody coming through the area is more than welcome to stop for a ride ..we're always trying to recruit first time racers. The cocktails are flowing all day. You can see how your Region 6 racers get down. If interested in stopping..shoot me a line.
cheers,

Your talking about Brent Lembach's family house there that has that the little tiki bar. They have Hilltop racing shop. Zeller's Beach area on Bayshore Rd. I go over there every now and then with my cousin Mike D...you probably know him and me then. My race sxr has got a little brappp. More brap in my SJ though. Wet Pipe in Limited, Stock class SXR, and limited freestyle superjet. I'll change my avatar to what I ride. Yah..come on over with some cold ones whenever. We are back and forth from there all the time. Bigger waves over on that end. Better for buoys over here with some chop with smooth straits.

Scott- what up man? How is that trailer working out for you? Good I hope... that thing is pretty much indestructible.
The dates for the freeride are August 7,8,9,10.
I will be taking my ski up on Thursday the 7th in the morning/afternoon, and will be coming home on the 10th in the morning.
We used to go Fri, Sat, Sun... but we love the place so much- that we decided to go one extra day last year and it was great...

Trailer is good. I traded my old double a while back and glad that one came long. It hasn't been too far..just over to Marblehead boat ramps. We were supposed to haul it down to Tampa this past winter, but didn't make it down. I did hook it up to hold 3 standups...barely...2 sxr's and a superjet in the middle.
Awesome on the dates..can't wait. I told a lot of my racer buddies about it and their hip that weekend. That Friday I work til 3pm and riding as soon as I get home. My crew will probably be here Friday evening or Saturday morning.
Hey dirtybird. Yah..Lake Erie water is not like St. Claire or other Great Lakes in clarity, but it's good around the islands out to Canada. Not sure if your referring to the may fly situation in past years, but that has gotten a lot better. They still come..just not as much anymore. We'll always have to deal with mother natures's wicked jokes. The surrounding bays and coves as you get closer into Sandusky Bay from Lake Erie can be a little dirty. Just a little shallower outside the channels. We get the filter water & sediment from the Sandusky River.
You get good waves all around the Bass Islands. Constant wind changes funnel through the islands so you get good waves all around.
Good wave spots coming from my house in the bay and moving towards Put In Bay are:
-Edison Bride over Rt. 2 on the South side
-Tip of Johnson's Island from Marblehead / Dempsy's Access in Sandusky Bay
-East side of Marblehead Bay Point sandbar
-Cedar Point breakwall channel...big boats here
-Cedar Point Beach
-East Harbor Beach towards Kelley's Island from Marblehead / Marzurik's Access in Lake Erie
-Mouse island where the Miller Ferry comes out is always a good wave spot

I try to make it up to Chris's place every weekend if I can. I hit the PIB twice a year. Check out the picture of the skis on my first post. You should recognize the dock setup. Coming from your place its past Dempseys on the left hand side. Im not sure when you raced, but one of our crew was national expert champion a few years back. We should be putting the docks in sometime in early May. Not really sure tho. Looking forward to this summer. Ill PM you my cell #. Call it if you get lost.

The ride will be around the State Park Campground right by the boat ramp. The water you refer to is on the other side of the island in the bay where the mass quantity of boats park. The water by the State Park is awesome.... very clean.

Has anyone reserved campsites yet. If so, what campsites did anyone get? I was thinking about campsite 120. I was up in the air about getting one and just riding out to PIB each day...but..it is a big party on the island and I thought otherwise. As of right now, they have around 100 left...Mainly all inland and will fill very quickly as it gets weeks away from full on island season. All the water's edge campsites are gone. To give an idea of price...2 nights is $52.00 + 8.00 in fees...$60 for 6 people max per site. We camp at Kelley's quite a bit and they stick to that rule for sure.
Rode today to get my boats tuned. Water was nice. It'll get back to chilled a little here soon, so I hope if they weather holds, everyone is able to get out for some weekend fun. Broke out the superjet too to show off a few dunks for the Rt. 2 people headed home from work
aloha,scoot
Ericfox
04-18-2008, 09:23 PM
Yep--> you have 6 people per site max... something we figured out: we usually got 2 sites with 4-5 guys each per site... then paid $5 for extra 1 or 2 people per site... those people we named some random girl name when we filled out the forms upon arrival.... that way if you meet someone "special" you can bring them back and their name becomes "Jen Smith" or "Julie Roberts" or whatever... they are pretty strict about that crap, so it was a cheap easy way to bend the rules... they actually stop the cabs on the way back into the campsite at night and question each person as to what their name is and what site your staying... thought some of you single guys could benefit from this...
Also, we need someone with a ski tote... let us know if someone has one or two nice ones we can use at the ride... like a tiger tote or similar... it will be important that we can easily take out skis out when we are taking breaks... I will buy one soon if nobody has one handy.

Got a campsite reserved for Friday and Saturday nights. Campsite #120 if anyone wants to link up campsites close. Yah..for Memorial weekend each year at Kelley's we get 3 sites and usually have to make up names cause we never know who's gonna show up. I left it with just my name on it and 5 empy name spots. I'll fill them in when I check in if we got someone that needs a spot to crash. I have know idea who is gonna come with me as it is a ways away yet. A lot of my crew are not ones to plan that far ahead for anything outside of the races. I'll have a few. If I don't have 6 with me, anybody who needs a spot is more then welcome to hook up with us.
I got a 2 wheel bigfoot beach cart that we can use.

A little info on this pic. This is a pic of Downtown Put In Bay on South Bass Island. (Where the Bars and Crazyness go down) The small Island is Gilbralter Island. It is owned by Ohio State University and is a Biology lab with dorms. Usually if there are waves they are on the North or West side of the Island. (This pic is facing south-east)

After looking again at this map. To ride to the Campgrounds, you would run out of gas. Even if you left from Catawba. You would have to follow the Ferry Line, Fuel up and then go around the Island.
http://www.x-h2o.com/photoplog/images/70/1_island_map.gif
Another great attraction in the area is Cedar Point. The BIGGEST ROLLER COASTER PARK in the world. It is on the map in the bottom right corner. If you have never been there, you NEED to go. It chews up any six flags big time.

Dude, the campground I stayed at was to the LEFT of that pic. You had to pass the monument to get downtown.
Scoot72
04-25-2008, 06:15 AM
JD..if your thinking of Fox's Campground, that is 1/2 mile from downtown. Yep, to the left of downtown in your map picture behind the trolley station. That one is closer to downtown, but they usually fill up with reservations by now. The State Park campground is on the middle left side curve of the island. You'll get the waves there vs. the downtown bar/boat area. It's all No Wake til you get pretty far out and then you have to wait for north winds for waves.
Launching from Catawba Island state park, your about a 5 mile ride to the PIB state park. From DJ's pic, follow the Miller Boat route and skirt up the left side til you get the where it curves out to the left.
I have a triple ski trailer and I'll have my superjet to take over and have spots for 2 other skis. If anyone wanted to meet at Miller Ferry and load up their skis to cut down on travel costs, that would be ok with me.
cheers,
scott

Dude, the campground I stayed at was to the LEFT of that pic. You had to pass the monument to get downtown.
Did they have a ramp? If so it would be better than the state park one cuz that state park one is way on the quiet side of the island. But is is really nice and 2 nice ramps.

Eric..good to hear man. I've had some tweaking to do on mine. I have the xmetal too and have a hard time going from race ski to that is terms of the pole weight. So, I'm putting a spring on mine.
DJ...forgot to thank you for the video. Really liked it. I'm no backflipper or anything like that, so it was great to see a video with riders doing stuff that i can do.
Wish me luck this weekend as I'm gonna brave the great city of Cleveland. Weekend trip to see my girls in the Wood and party out in Mentor

Something I found by using the link in the first post to do a mock reservation:
1) you have to do a reservation: no walk-ons during summer time - so make sure you book your site using that link...
2) campsites are starting to fill up... about 50% booked already compared to about 25% last month and the good sites are going fast... 42 and 44 are good ones just from past experience and are still open as of today
3) you have to book for a minimum of 2 nights... this makes sense since they sell out every weekend in the summer. Most $ for them....
Ericfox
06-04-2008, 12:01 PM
FYI::::: I just called the gas station on the island and they only sell 87 octane :Eyecrazy:... I thought they sold higher, but I guess not... so fill up your ski's tank and all your fuel jugs! If you dont have a high compression head then you'll be fine!
If you dont have fuel jugs go to walmart and get two 5 gallon containers for like 10 bucks... cheap azzes! :-)

Where do you plan on riding? I've only heard of people NOT going in the water because it's so nasty. Everyone says they jump from boat to boat and never touch the water.
Nope, nothing wrong with the water around the islands. At least that time of the year that I have ever experienced in my years up there.

I wish I had something to compare it to.... the engine I had in my blaster was similar with a lightened flywheel, but then I had a bunch of other mods including porting I dont have on this engine, so I dont know the difference.... all I know is that compared to stock last year it was like learning to ride on a different ski... just with the handling mods alone....

just rode put-in bay all week and i must say riding all day and drinking all night ad's up to a good life. few things iv learned
1.trailer/tow parking is very limited i highly recc those w/ out campsites get together to bring the most skis w/ the least rigs. I had to almost get into a brawl with some non english speaking folk as they were trying to drive around me to get in the spot i was holding for our rig.ramps get interesting
2.PRAY FOR A SOUTH WEST WIND that kicks the little bay area up but they are very close sets.
3.If you like your ski, bring a anchor its a rock beach all around that cove and i mean all rocks
4.watch out for the jetski rental retards that ride right off the beach they are complete morons.
5.watch where you ride the island has crazy sandbars well offshore under 1 foot deep. i dumped it going around the island in 3-4;s and was standing 1000 feet offshore.
prices have gone up on the ferry, for us to take 3 people,a tripple trailer w/ 1 ski in the bed of the truck both ways was 110$$$$
so if that helps anyone in anyway cool, should be a good time.

The rocks on the beach are a biatch... this is why I am trying to make sure someone has a good tote we can use to pull out skis out onto the grass when we arent riding... I think Scoot72 said he has one... anyone else have one that they can bring? I will still be bringing my anchor with me anyways as well...

South Bass State Park Campground phone to find out about parking : 419-285-2112 .... doubt you will be able to park by the campsite.... they might let you park by the boat ramp....
I have a decent tent you can use... let me know if you want to use it... or you can just buy a little tent at walmart for cheap.... then just bring a few blankets and a pad to sleep on...
just make sure you get there... after that you will just need to sleep somewhere to sober up and somewhere to park your stuff... if Scoot72 as room on his trailer or truck you might be able to ride over with him on the ferry... if you do that you guys would have to try and hide those gas containers in his vehicle or something... they might say something if you have too many... they allow 3 containers per vehicle... gotta bring enough containers with 93 octane.... they only sell 87 on the island... I would call the park and then get ahold of scoot72 to figure things out with him...

Carfanactic. the best thing to do is give me a ring so I can go over thing with you on our end and general stuff you might want to bring to camp. My number is 419-202-5020
These next few weeks are gonna be crazy up here for me. So, if I don't post right away and want to know something give me a ring. I'm a gonna get all the info from my gang this weekend as far as who's bringing their skis, trailer, etc. As far as getting our stuff over, I am bringing the trailer I bought off Eric and have it situated to fit 3 skis. I have an suv, but hoping my buddy will bring his truck so we can fit another ski in back. We're gonna hide plenty of fuel with us too.
Miller Ferry has a 2) 5gal. jug limit now. That will go prety quick. I hope everyone brings tons of gas so we can ride to the other islands as well and really explore with everyone.
Another option is us bringing out enclosed race trailer. we fit 3 in there plus a chance to definatley bring more fuel.

Oh, and the campgrounds have VERY nice showers (for a campground at least)... about 6 or 8 lock-door private showers with an area to change in each one as well.... that was just at the bathroom next to us... there are several bathrooms at the campground with similar arangements...
the toilet and sink side of the bathroom is pretty decent... prob a little above average for a campground...

Refueling after riding over to the island will be tricky.... they MIGHT sell premix 87 at the marina.... if you know there will be a few guys that need higher octane it would be better to have a buddy or girlfriend take the ferry across with enough fuel tanks hidden somewhere to supply everyone with fuel... I hope you guys can come, but if the fuel is too much of a hassle then I certainly understand if you dont want to mess with it...

A backup is always good. The stocker has been my backup for racing all year too. Many problems with my limited race ski as well. That's a whole different animal. Didn't expect to have problems with my superjet right before this ride. I still may bring that as it still seems to have the good bottom end punch I want for waves. SXR is so heavy for that.
Eric...as I spoke to you yesterday I mentioned we both had the same setup as far as pipe, head, etc. What compression are you running? Never checked that when I bought the ski last year. A lot of just gas and go.

Just read your build thread. Still running 185 comp.?

I have the same set up as eric aswell.. I need to test my compression....
Scoot72
08-01-2008, 01:50 PM
Away with the gggggggrrrbbbbllll...hello brapp. Got that problem fixed. Pop off pressure was way low...12psi... we cut some springs to get it back to 21psi. Also rebuilt the carbs and tested it in the tank. Thought it was electrical at first...maybe bad coil causing the bog, but glad I get the bugs worked out. Good pop and rpms now. I am still running lower compression though. Not really sure what I was when I bought this ski, but it's running 155 in both now. It's enough to get my through the weekend and rest season before looking more into it later in the year.

Bought a helmet cam last night... Should have it set up by the time of the ride!
Also, I was thinking about how to get our skis out of the water during breaks since that beach is all rocks... maybe just bring a big piece of carpet and lay it out on the rocks? Walmart sells little blue closed cell foam camping mats, but I dont know if they will be big enough to stay put when we try to pull the skis up on them... any skis with no scuppers should be able to anchor....
MADMAT
08-04-2008, 07:24 AM
I beached a brand new 99 SXi Pro on those rocks for 3 days and it barely left a mark.
Its like small round smooth gravel.
Ericfox
08-04-2008, 07:46 AM
I thought it was larger rocks... you're talking about the beach right by the boat ramp down from where the rental guys pull their skis up? Maybe we'll be fine then...
crappy pic but:
MADMAT

Yikes!!! Yea thats the beach but I could swear those rocks were smaller.
Man I had some good breaking waves right at that spot one year!!
the beach at kelly's is the same.
i got a scissor stand just for those trips
Ericfox

Think a piece of carpet like 5' x 20' would work well to pull the skis up onto?
CarFanatic
08-04-2008, 11:25 AM
well you guys aren't gonna believe this.. After 2 solid weeks of getting my ski together, and it runs great. I went out this weekend, with my skis and my sister took our parents boat out. Well she wanted to take my rxp for a spin, so I let her no big deal, so she head out with her friend on the back. So then her other friend asks to ride my stand up, I have let her try it before, so I didn't think much of it. Well at some point my sister switched drivers and let her other friend drive my rxp.. needless to say the stupid b*tch runs straight into my superjet. So it cracked the back rear gunwale of the ski, I dont know how bad it really is, cause it could have hit hard enough to crack under my turf, maybe eve n hurt my foot hold install... on top of that my rxp has a scratches and cracked down to the fiberglass aswell... SO I"m extremely pissed off, and I'm going to see if I can get it fixed in time to make it to the ride, but I dunno if I will be able to get it fixed.. This weekend marked the last time people ride my stuff, that I dont strongly trust. :hitwithrock:
Ericfox
08-04-2008, 11:56 AM
man... thats why I never let people ride mine either... I have gotten people that seem rather insulted that I would not let them ride it too... I'm like DUDE its my frickin ski.... where do you get off acting insulted because I wont let you ride it!!! frickin stuck up people... 3/4 of them are hillbillies at the lake that see me ride and want to try it out real fast... needless to say that the outcome of those rides would most likely end up with me fixing something...
I hope you can have it fixed in time!!!! Should not be hard to fix...
Sand the cracks down and lay a bunch of glass over it... if you have to rip some turf up to check for cracks just rip it up and forget about what it looks like.... who cares about looks as long as you can make it to the ride!!!!

paul,
I was thinking an old piece of carpet like 5' x 20' would work better than those camping mats to put over the rocks to pull the skis up onto... what do you think? only problem I can see with those mats is that they would move around a lot when we try to pull up the skis... carpet would prob. stay in place pretty well... I have some old carpet at home and and if thats not big enough I got a place down the street that sells carpet at a good discount...
scissor stands would be great.... just too much $$$$

iv ponderd that too. the only prob is after we use it were prolly going to have to throw them away there....wet carpet weighs a f-in ton..and it will smell like azz......but we could def try it..they dont have any of those mats at walmart by my house...the cheapest ones are 10.99....i was going to bring a few anchors and be done with it...iv got the 10 by 10 canopy for everyone however every needs to bring there own lawchairs i only have 2....i also got a ripper deal on gatorade and water for everyone to so we;ll have a few coolers down there too along with some tunes snacks ect.......now i just need my head to show up in the mail and im ready to roll.......

how hard is it to put that lowered bracket on?? does the stock one just un bolt? Do I h ave to pull the gas tank?
MADMAT
08-05-2008, 02:07 PM
Yea the bracket is a fairly big job IMO. Also the hood has to be lined up and all of you hardware moved over.
Leave the front hood side brackets loose and put the hood in place and then tighten them with a 1/4" extension and socket. You want the hood to be sitting where it should when you tighten the front hood hooks.
Ericfox
08-05-2008, 02:08 PM
Should not take more than 2 hours to put both on... you will have to really push down or strap down your hood to figure out where to drill the holes to mount your stock latch... I ended up using 2 old carb screws I think to go into the hood latch catch piece since the screws from the stock hood were not long enough for me... maybe yours will be different, but I doubt it... the front pieces that go into the hood hooks should already have holes drilled in the hood for them...

There are a few bolts... cant remember if they are made into the stock bracket or not... you'll need to pull the lines through the new bracket and back into the pole again... that will prob. be the hardest part.... you might want to check to see if you need any hardware or if the stock hardware works... or if jeff supplied it to you??? When I put my xmetal bracket on I had to buy hardware if I remember right...

What up ya'll. Eric...lucky....you get the first wave action and downtown action. Brenden..good to hear you'll have your ski. It's a weekend not to miss...you'll soon find out why. Paul...it'll be good to meet you too and the others going. We got any last minute add on's for the weekend?
I"m gonna tune a little tomorrow finally...my ass hasn't been in the water now since July 12th.....that's way too long, but the foot is now good and ready to roll.
I also have a helmet cam (oregon scientific) that can be attached to my mx helmet. It takes pretty good video. Engine sound kinda overwhelms the take. Anybody is welcome to use it. I have another..the one Samsung came out with with the corded helmet cam from the mini camcorder. That proved to be a piece of crap..but alone makes a good cam for handheld action shots...or some late night bar video's.
Ericfox
08-06-2008, 07:42 AM
Dont worry Scott... there will be plenty of action left for you guys when you get there!!!
I dont know of any last minute people... maybe 1 extra guy is staying with us... but he wont have a ski anyways.... figured we might get another person or two interested at the last minute... from my experience - it happens each year that people from surrounding states dont know what the heck Put-In-Bay is.... and then some people from Ohio dont even know.... no excuse for that!!!!
I will check with one guy from pwctoday... he seemed interested a few weeks ago...
If anyone sees this - and has no plans this weekend... MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS!!!! IT IS LIKE SPRING BREAK, MARDI GRAS, AND AN AWESOME FREERIDE MIXED INTO ONE WEEKEND!
there may still be a way to accomodate an extra person or two so let us know ASAP
