Really hope all goes well, we had our regular ride this week end 3 guys came out on x-2's.. three guys were towed in on x-2's.. i really want to ride a nice powerful x-2 i'm sure yours is... i'm just busting chops:biggrin:

If its late in April I might be able to be there. Work is already pissed that I am going to be out the the office in FL for basically the entire month of Jan...lol But is there any surf in the gulf?
madscientist
12-31-2007, 04:43 PM
we usually have decent surf at that time of year (waist to shoulder high) and it's a decent break and a short ride to the best break on the panhandle that is only accessable by boat
tow straps ( gotcha )
i also have good friends on the beach pd and will call them for their support
marine patrol (fwc) does not venture into the gulf here unless an emergecy arises
discuss now finalize at daytona

From my years of hanging @ my dad's place in P-cola it is hit-miss on surf in P-cola beach..... dep's on offshore storms/wind/weather.
I prefer either glass flat, or nice 3-6' rollers with nice flat spots in between to setup for the next set.....
Regarding tow strap :).... that's why we ride our x-2's at the beach,.... for those uninitiated peeps goes like this:
*** start up ski
*** Jump wave 1
*** Jump waves 2-6 (feeling like I rule the world)
*** idle into the beach trying to figure out why I don't have any power.....
*** pull plugs, shake off air cleaner, talk to passers by as they ask what I'm doing? :)
*** start up ski
*** Jump waves 7 - 15.....
Repeat over and over until out of gas :)
And that's a good day ;)
:afro:
-----------
A p-cola ride will rock the house. The bay is really nice, and we can swing around the cut to the unprotected water for some wave jumping.... OR use my beach cart at the public beach to jump waves.
How is the beach patrol at the public beach towards the fort? Do they care if 100 X-2's pull up with aftermarket waterboxes and 780 swap? :)

working on the beach patrol
they are friends of mine and have already place a call for info
can no longer drive on fort pickens since the road was destroyed in ivan
but the event location is right at the main gate. new pavillions and restrooms.
plenty of parking across the street for trailers and such. no camping left on the beach, a friend of the family will bring out his philly beef stand to do burgers and dogs, and such for a reasonable price the day of the event.

I've ridden chicken bone from 1988 - 2001 and it's a good spot. Not much boat traffic at the lanch on the bayside, and decent ocean access through the cut or across the public beach with a beach cart.
I really enjoyed riding with large schools of fish in the clear water on the bayside..... it's a real treat to ride clear water if you're used to Tx or La Dirty Swamp water :)
Here's the P-cola Weather Link to get your juices going :)

Here's a couple maps annotated with Chicken Bone Beach for everyone. Hopefully these mapquest pics are right after a h-cane and things are in better shape than these pics :)

Now you guys are talking! I am only about 5.75 hours away instead of 10 or 12+. What ths chances of it being over Easter or Memorial day weekends? I get a day off work for each of those and wouldn't have to burn up a whole bunch of vacation days. Still though I could use half a day on Friday and half a day on Monday and still get plenty of riding in.

beach carts and muscle only
trying to make it in the off season so everone that has to rent or hotel gets great rates
off season 1mo is the same as a wk in the season
some of the larger houses will sleep 10+ peeps split the rent by that and it is affordable

plan is tomake it large enough that the island authority would shut us down if i don't get any support.
liability insuarnce and security are the biggest expense as well as i am trying to achieve a better public perspective of our sport

Mad - thanks for putting this together. It's alot of work, but it'll be a blast.
Gino - I used to ride Westend when I lived in N/O. We also used to ride Bayou Segnet..... until we saw the gator tour boats :)..... Hope to meet you guys down there.
I bet you're going to find ALOT of skiiers coming out of the woodwork in the SouthEast who have really good access to P-cola. It's pretty central for ALOT of riders..... especially us SEC peeps ;) and LSU fans :) :) :)

That's where we ride every week end. We are heading out today around 12pm it's warm today so should be a good ride. hope nothing breaks before Wed. Do you ever come back to N.O.? If so lets ride. We were talking a/b trying to get anyone to come in for Mardi Gras to ride during the day and drink at night. It's early this yr. but it could be a fun thing for anyone who likes M.G.
I am praying LSU does what Fla did to Ohio last yr. GOOOOOOO TIGERS

Mad - Sorry for the hi-jack. Dino - Will catch you on PM.
Back to Chicken-BONE!!!!
You going to try and organize a coule exhibition races.... x-2's, 0ld school stand-ups, new stuff... couches.... it'd be fun to see 20 x-2s hitting the buoys on the bayside all at the same time.
I just picked up a waterproof dig camera for some action.

I am pretty sure I can make the drive from Huntsville. As long as you buy gas, you can ride one of my X2's. Better bring a wet suit though because neither one of mine have any ride mats and I am too lazy to buy some turf. You can ride the 94, it is all stock and boring but better than nothing...

Mad scientist ,many thanks for letting me ride your ski in Daytona, you are mighty brave to let someone who has never ridden surf before ride your ski.I have a newfound respect for the surf riders now,I also know just how out of shape I am lol.I will admit the 10-20 minutes that I rode was a lot of fun, thanks again.
