I often have trouble uploading pics into threads here. Sometimes they load, other times they don't, even if it is the same pic. Never an issue on PWCT though, so sometimes I have to post pics there and just put in a link to it on the X, which makes it a pain for anyone trying to see the pics. Can something be done here? Thanks

You need to give more info than that, like what is the error you get.

most people dont have a way to resize pics. the limit to pic size on here is 800 x 600 and most peoples cameras take pics that are wayyyy larger than that. the 3 meg file size is too small for most people too. I use photoshop when i put pics on here to make them smaller and smaller file size. Whenever I try to just put a pic up straight from the camera it wont let me because its too big.

I resize the pics with the program that came with my Olympus camera.

I have never had an issue w/ posting pics and I do it all the time...

You must be using unsupported formats or files that are too large...
That's my guess... PWCT allows higher res pics, that's probably why you are not having issues over there..

I find that hard to believe...
if you don't know how to do that, you need to shut the computer down....

photoshop is not the best tool for resizing pics either.. get a program that will do a batch process... they are free at www.download.com (http://www.download.com) all day

On the gallery page, I have a link to Easy Thumbnails, the easiest program there is for resizing groups of pics at once.

Also, the filesize limit is 4Mb, there is no dimension limit.

Mine are failing at 3.4mb

Cameral Canon EOS XTi (Step up from Ronny's camera)

I take pics at the largest resolution....... so they are large, but only avg 3.4mb each......... everytime it fails......... just resized these 2 pics down to below 3.0 and it working.

I should have been more specific.

I wasnt referring to the gallery, I was referring to just adding pics to a post.

When you use the manage attachments buttons on the posting page, there is a 3mb limit to jpg files and an 800x800 limit to dimensions.
Alot of people dont use the gallery for posting pictures, i know i dont.

Anothing thing, working on computers and dealing with customers, I've learned that the average person doesnt know anything at all about computers. Things that seem very simple are actually very difficult to some.

Like I said, there is a difference between using the gallery and using the manage attachments button on the posting page. Thats where the confusion is.

when I have done the gallery uploads, the pics are grainy looking to me.......... the pumkin pics were resized by Anita down to 800*600, so I know that is why......... but I can open them on the desktop and they are clearer, seems like the Gallery kinda distorts the pics some.

For attachments, the limit is 6Mb. There is no 3Mb limit except for .gif and .bmp

Just looked, your right lol, jpg is 6mb i was lookin at gif and bmp, those are 3mb.

But there is a dimention limit. thats what keeps most from working, i think just about all cameras take larger than 800x800 pics

Here's one that was 964Kb, 2304x1728, the site resized it automatically for me.

ok I just tried uploading a pic that was 1.26 meg and 2816x21112, and this is the error I got.

This was using the manage attachments button, not using the gallery at all.

Maybe because it's .JPG instead of .jpg, I'll check that.

Harrison, I tried one of your pics, no luck.
kahuna1.jpg:
Upload of file failed.

So, I resaved it in Gimp (like Photoshop) with more compression which brought it down to 2.2Mb from the 3.4Mb original, but same dimensions, same error.
kahuna1_gimp.jpg:
Upload of file failed.

Then I resaved it again with mega compression to get it down to 625Kb, and got this different error:
kahuna1_gimp.jpg:
The Dimension limits for this filetype are 800 x 800. We were unable to resize your file so you will need upload to the gallery (http://www.x-h2o.com/gallery/) (will be resized automatically) then hotlink or save/attach it. Your file is currently 3888 x 2592.

I wonder if it's how the file is being transferred off the camera? My pics always work no matter what size they are, I just read them directly off the memory card.

I'll look into it more.

pics were down loaded using the cable that comes with the camera and the camera software.........
the pics I posted were the same ones, resized them 2 ways, one a percentage reduction and the other a size reduction and they both worked that way......... but straight download they dont work......... also, those pics were emailed from home to work........ I can open them with no problems from either location, or email them and the person who gets them can view........
