So I bought myself a Banjo yesterday.
I've been playing guitar off and on for about 12 years (I am not very good).
I just wanted to pick up something different. And I have always loved the way a Banjo sounds.
A mandolin was in the running too, but in the end the Banjo was more appealing.
I messed around for a little bit with it last night and found it's basically a ratty old beginners
banjo. Good thing I only paid 90 bucks for it.
It is surprisingly much easier to pick up on the second stringed instrument than the first one.
If I like it and play it enough, I'll pick up a nicer Banjo in the future.
I love the sound of Bluegrass and old style Gospel music.
Anyways, it's good to have hobbies besides Superjets. :bigok:

Not when I am done.
SQEAL!!!!
Seriously, the most recent movie he played in was Shooter. Starting to look old.
Congrats!
I started taking banjo lesssons last fall....it's pretty hard to learn to play...but I also had no guitar experience. I can play the guitar MUCH better than the banjo. My instructor is really into the old stuff which is what I like as well. Make sure you learn to play claw hammer style and not Scruggs....Scruggs is almost impossible to learn and you can play almost everything you want with the claw hammer style.
Check out Grandfathers Clock! It's a GREAT banjo song.

I got to get me some new strings first and figure out those tuners. It has a horrible time staying in tune.
I hope the neck isn't loose.
If you like the banjo you have to check this guy out...LINK
Fastest banjo player...and he is from around here
I can sit and listen to gospel/Bluegrass ALL day long...reminds me of my childhood in small town Alabama

My grandpa's bluegrass-gospel band used to set up on my great-grandma's front porch every spring and jam...it was great! some of my best memories.....:Banane25:

All joking aside, I am seriously stoked about this.
I started figuring out a couple chords last night, started playing a C, then an F....then a C, then an F.....Holy hell, it's Dueling Banjos!
Now I just need to find me another guitar player who can play the partner to it.

Almost every every old bluegrass song is pretty simple....C, D7, and G...with Em and F thrown in every once in a while.....I HATE F...I have midget hands and my fingers don't like it very much:aargh4:

Uh yeah....my first string is missing, so chords are somewhat easy.
I guess I'll have to start using my pinky finger for chords. Damn, I hate that on the guitar, too.

What do you play, Edwin?
Also need to check out a great band...The Avett Brothers. They are a bluegrass based group...with a little kick. the BEST live show I have ever seen...look them up on youtube.
Garrett tells me I am obsessed with them :sneaky:

i never played a banjo before. i do like the sound of them when a good chicken picken player is playing. i watched a steve morse / dixie dregs video a few weeks back that had the most amazing banjo player on stage with him. it was like steve morse on a banjo!
i just picked up a les paul special with a dimarzio bridge pickup about a month ago. ive been bringing it to the studio every friday since. all my other guitars seem to suck now LOL.

I hear ya. I sold all the guitars I had a while back in need of money, and now all I've got left is a crappy Yamaha acoustic. My favorite was an Ibanez Hollow Body electric. One of these days I'll get me a Gretsch.

Add that to my list of future projects. I want to build a tube amp.

this amp was the reverb amp that drove a seperate speaker just for reverb. it was electrically integrated with the main amp that drove the 2 12"s.
i had to cut, add and bypass a few things to make it work, but for the most part, its an OEM hammond tube amp.
i still have the main amp. its much bigger and heavier. youre welcome to it if you want to pay shipping. probably not worth it.
