Ok, I have a bee problem. Seems as though they decided that my well house would make a good home. I would just leave them alone except for the fact that there new home has a water leak that I need to fix. Anyone know the best way to get rid of them. I called around and people are quoting about $500 to get rid of them :bs2: Gonna probably do it myself, just thought I would check and see if anyone had some pointers for me. Thanks.

call a professional or set fire to the well house. bees suck!

Buy a couple aerosol foggers, approach the well house at night when the bees are much less active, activate the foggers, toss them in and throw a blue tarp over the well house for maximum saturation.
calm them with smoke and then douse the wellhouse with gas and ignite......unless you like the wellhouse and don't want to rebuild it. I hate bees. I think they're first cousins with snakes.
EDIT: the tarp and aerosol idea sounds much better. Have some buddies help you very quickly throw a tarp over it and then you could activate the aerosol cans and toss them under the tarp like grenades. I'd probably either do it at night or throw some smoldering newspaper in there to calm them with smoke beforehand.

Bees are actually somewhat threatened right now, the bee industry is in a moderate crisis. There is a disease decimating bee colonies throughout the country. I'm surprised you can't find someone to help you out for a little less than that.
Try to find a local beekeeper and see if they'll help you out without having to kill the bees. If you can find a local honey producer (check your local for sale ads for someone selling honey) they may be more willing to work with you for less.
Yes, I know, I know the weirdest stuff, sorry, I can't help it.

Try finding a local bee keeper. They should be able to remove them for close to nothing. If not free.
Bees arent all that bad. 70% percent of the veggies sold in the US are polonated by bees. Without them we would be F'd. My grandfather was a beekeeper so Maybe I look at things a little differently.
Some things to keep in mind.
1. Dark clothing incites/attracts bees.
2. No perfume/cologne/scented soaps near bees- also attracts them.
3. If you respect them they will probably be OK- If they are fully africanized- all bets are off.

with the honda link, i was expecting bees wax.
i agree with ollie in that bees are a very necessary part of our ecological system and they help spread pollen for growing crops and such. theyre great..... just not in big numbers residing on (or near) my property.

I had a bee problem at my old house a few years back, and I couldn't find a bee keeper to come out for free and collect them. (That was actually a bit of a surprise). So first see if anyone will come get them for free, and if that doesn't work just use the wasp and hornet spray. I was able to walk right up to the entrance to the nest and spray them over and over for a couple of days until no more bees came out. I then pulled away the siding and removed the comb. I then painted it with kilz and put the siding back on and sealed it well. If you just kill them all and don't remove the comb, remove the scent and seal it up, they'll be back the next year. I learned that the hard way. I felt bad killing them, but couldn't pay the money to get rid of them.

Local bee keepers want nothing to do with them because of the fear of Africanized Bees, the county basically said I was on my own, and there is no freaking way I'm shelling out $500 to get rid of them so let the bee war begin :swordfight: I'm not going to burn down my brick well house, that would destroy my water well that supplies my shop. I'm pretty sure they are just run of the mill honey bees because I'm still alive, when I found the leak on Saturday I lifted the lid over the well and gave them quite a surprise. Surprising me also I found out that I can still run pretty freaking fast (screaming like a little girl scaring the sh!t out of my wife) Only one chased me down an tried to make a new hive in my ear. I guess I will go pesticide shopping today and see what I can find. Thanks for all the suggestions and keep them coming :bigok:
Strong pesticide in a pump sprayer. Douse them down.
Wear your thick welding jacket and cover up well.

I think you can find a bee suit for under $200 (approx $150)

Nope, Tom Green County will not do anything to help, I was told I'm pretty much on my own.
The city of San Angelo has undergone an initiative to keep the bees out of the city by creating a bee hotline that tracks bees and helps residents contact bee eradication vendors.
However, little has been done - or can be done - to eradicate feral colonies in country pastures.
''We've established that, like fire ants, they are going to be here long after we're gone, There is no eradication in our future.''
IF I lived in town (which I do not) And IF the hive was in my water meter, the city would remove them, that is the extent of the help they offer :bs2:

Apparently the ones that build hives around water meters are "Citified Bee's" Therefore requiring extraction by the city, the ones in the country are "Feral" :skull2:
Sounds like you gots some'a them thar countrified bees

Not as funny as Bob, but: feral, meaning wild, not owned by anyone. All bees started out this way, but modern honey bees have been domesticated for generations. Bee keepers (especially major honey producers) actually buy their queens and sometimes even drones. Usually they buy from disease free and pest free breeders. They are often bred for higher honey production, etc, just like cows being bred for higher milk production, higher milk fat, or more muscle, etc (insert whatever trait you want). Many local beekeepers are less particular and will gladly take any bees that don't behave as if Africanized and appear disease free.
Clearly not the case for poor Bob, since he can't find anyone to take them off his hands. Personally, I'm still praying for video of the extermination process.
Be careful using pesticides around your well.

you could probably make your own beesuit out of a bunch of sweatshirts and stuff. Just have someone tape all the seams for you, around the gloves and everything.
Then give em a healthy dose of brake cleaner! Cheap, with good distance and stopping power!

I have heard that a solution of dish soap and water (you gotta mix it pretty thick) but if sprayed on them they will die. You could flood them with soap water for weeks for a few dollars and a super soaker.
With that said I had a hive of yellow jackets at the corner of my garage I tried to get rid of for weeks. About every night I would spray them with the foaming wasp/bee killer just soaking the nest and the next day they would multiply and come after me when I got home from work. I soon found out that 3 stings at the same time made you wish for your heart to stop so the hurt would go away.
So I used a HUGE pressure washer with a 0 degree tip to cut the siding off the edge of the garage at about dark and tear the hell out of their nest and the flowers and such. But after I messed their world up I sprayed them a few more times and they got the hint and quit rebuilding.
Good luck I am scared to death of those guys now but I still like snakes

I am estimating the bees to be in the thousands (pretty big hive) I'm going to give them a detergent bath (I hear that soap kills them) I figure 5 gallons should do it. Hooking up a 12v pump with a sprayer end on about 30ft of hose (since I'm allergic I need as much distance as possible) I'll let yamahammer put the hose in the hive, I'll try and get it on video, its possible that there could be some comedy in this

As weird as this may sound
when i first left school i worked on a bee farm for 6 mths
we used to bred queen bees
its wasnt to bad a job
you had to avoid the dark bees the more yellow on them the less aggressive they were
but anyway if we had to kill of a hive we would put petrol in it as the bee cant not survive the smell of petrol
you dont have to light it
just pour it in there by the entrance
oh and then run they will not be happy with you

Ok, those vids are freakin' funny on sooo many levels.
First, (can I call you Hammer?) the fact the Hammer is facing the angry swarm with nothing more than a magic wand. :wizard:
Second, Elmer, why's the vid so shaky? Are you a mile and a half a way or just that skeered of the bees? :poke:
Third, the fact that Hammer tried to blow himself up. Dearie, didn't it occur to you to consider moving the gas can a little farther away before lighting up the gas trail? :firedevil:
But I gotta give props to the Hammer for having the guts to face the swarm, clearly shaky ol' BONZIA BOB was too skeered to face them! That is, not only face the swarm, but with only gloves as protective gear. (Am I the only one confused as to what exactly the gloves were going to do for him?)
All in all a little less running and screaming than I was hoping for, but not bad for a morning's entertainment! :stooges:
Oh, and did I mention how much I like that Elmer is dictating and giggling, all from a safe distance?
