This is a square hull I have been working on for quite a while. Modded the hood and nose. Reinforced the common areas and threw in some footwells.
The paint scheme is based on my entry for the XFT paint contest. He still needs to get me a handlepole so I can finish things up. It'll come down to Pismo with me if anyone wants to see it up close. Now I need to go finish Pierre's helmet.

All of the logos are vinyl.
The diamond plate is chrome vinyl with a LOT of blood red candy over the top.
the JP logo on the nose had the red portions cut out so the paint scheme would show through. Then for the hell of it I stuck the portions I cut out on the tail end above my signature.

Good job on the chrome effect! Its quite tough to keep all the horizons working together on a human figure.
Very well done.

That will always be the hardest question for me to answer, and the answer seems to change depending on what's happening in my life and how bad I need cash.
The paint job cost me about $300 and about 30 hours.
I'd do it for someone off the street for $1000-1500.
If it was a street bike or something else that wouldn't get beat up I'd charge $2500-3000, that's what I feel paint like that is worth. Problem is it won't last if the ski is ridden like it is suppose to be so I try and make it as cheap as possible without completely giving away my time.
I have always felt that if I am going to go through all off the hassle and work to clean and prep a ski I should throw everything I have at it when I get to do the fun stuff.
So stoked you guys are diggin this one.

Do you lay it all out in the computer or by hand and then go to paint, or just do it while you go ?

Take the stripper ski, I have seen how much care you guy's use when handling it in and out of the water, and still its hard not to do some damage. One reason I have opted for $40 a quart marine urethane solid color, easy to fix after Tsunami damage, but no bling......

I always have a plan, I NEVER just make it up while I go.
This one happened to be done on the computer because of the XFT paint scheme comp.
Usually I just take some colored pencils and colored sharpies and draw out the designs on a photocopied template of the ski or hemet. (If you look in the background of the first picture you can see Mike Serlin's and Pierre's helmet designs)
It's a lot easier for me to design something on paper than on a computer.
The girl is a copy of a painting by Hajime Soryama -so I can't take credit for the chrome other than being able to copy someone else's technique.

Leave it to a racer to turn a thread about a sweet paint job into motor crap.

That ski looks too good to ride. It would have to be a sweet wave day for me to put the first few scratches in it.
