speed is the key here.
Get on plane
Put left foot on side rail while still accelerating
quickly let off throttle move hand and put right leg the right side rail and get back on the gas.
It helps to throttle throttle with your thumb. Do this by doing making a V with your 4 fingers pointer finger and middle finger go left and the other two go right, and put them on the handle then use thumb to gas. Hope this helps.

it may feel a lil awkward at first to balance it...but once you get going enough it'll come to you every time you try it
the next thing to go for is a spin...grab the handhold crank the bars and nail the gas

I prefer the leapfrog technique, none of that sissy stuff where you "put the left foot out, you put the right foot out, you do the hokey pokey and you slide down the pole, and thats what it is all about!"
leapfrog is definitely the preferred method
E..do you have a clip of that little 2 man trick ive seen you do with Dre?
2 ski's, 1 guy rides ont hge hood...picks the other dude up on the nose, ride around, return to boat etc etc....
saw you do that once at sebby and it was cool as hell! :wavey:

I assume you mean backwards ?
Here is a video with a couple of nice turns...
Jet Ski On Nazare Paulista Video
My advice, speed, no hesitation turning the handlebar fast and all the way, the ski slides arround ride underneath you.
I do it with my squarnose skis and put one finger in the air intake holes to hold on...lool wonder how long they will last.

do you have handholds or a lowered hood, that really helps. Lowered hood gives you a lowered center of gravity, makes balance easier.

I was doin that one finger thing on my 650 sx untill it took half the meat on my finger off. Then I figured it was time stop doin the one finger.

get going pretty quick, get left leg on ledge, let go of throttle, swing right leg over, stay on plane. the other day i was able to start/stop the ski and stay on the hood, balance is key. pretty much what everyone already stated.
oh and im also guilty of sticking the finger into the SN hood, i think ill do the slutty hood mod this winter.
try it backwards, spin around on hood into a fountain almost... then get sitting upright... now try this... stand close to the nose with some speed and lift the pole so ur totaly reverse riding standing up with the pole up and standing on the rails :)
just dont slip haha ouch

This trick can be done with 2 riders on the hood and one pilot. We won't mention any screen names only other names. Back 2 autumns ago myself Bill (look one post below) and Jeremy (he's the space d out pro freestyler) tried and succeeded. First Jeremy and I were riding side by side. I climbed onto the nose of Jeremys ski and we rode around. Then Bill came up next to us and climbed on between Jeremy and me. We made a single round. This is the one and only time we ever tried this (TOO much male bonding.)
You can also do it with just one additional rider and switch riders by doing an over/under. The pilot will slow the ski and the rider will flip over the front and glide along the underside of the ski and come up the rear and climb into the tray, grabs the bars keeping his weight rearward and accelerating. While the rider is going under the pilot hops or climbs over the bars and onto the hood. The pilot timing is critical. Go too soon and the nose begins to sink, too late and the tail will sink. You can switch several times. Timing and balance are key. Fun stuff to break up the monotomy of trying to learn that new trick.
Oh yeah, at the time I weighed about 200. Bill and Jeremy both weighed 170-180. Yep, somewhere around 550 lbs of passengers on a 300lb machine.

Here's a few pics. Some peeps don't like the hood tricks.... Well, you gotta start somewhere. I have fun with it...
As far as competing, I think it helps to fill in your routine with hood tricks between your bigger tricks. I also feel that it helps your score when you have a full routine, increase the number of tricks done and pulled off, and don't spend too much time with your set up wakes.
Stoyer has a good instructional video that covers everything real well.
Anyway, hope this helps.

More throttle is always the answer.
Dubs chops

first time i tried it i jumped to the hood and got a little too throttle happy. the acceleration threw me into the tray and my leg pinned on the rubrail and over the bar. you guessit it was my throttle hand so away we went at WOT till i could get my leg straightend out!
