My old red and silver 840 X2 coughed up a big end rod bearing so I figured it was the right time to park it. The hull was heavy from too many repairs and over building things from the begining. So here is my new 840 motor and new unmolested hull. I built the hull for a friend a few years a go and he had a 750 in it. Then he built a big bore with a builder out here in NH but never put it together. He decided to sell out so I got it for $2600 with a fresh motor in abox and a hull that was already set up the way I like. It took me about 2 weeks to get it togehter with the weird things I like done to my stuff. So here she is. It is better in every way than my old X2. I like the SX cylnder better than the SXI cylnder I use to run for freestyle. I am really happy with the guy that built the motor. It is soo nice being able to drive down to his shop if I have questions or need something weird lke I usually do.

Here are some pics and video I have of it so far. I have been babing it on the lake while I work on a few things.

No intake grate on the lake to make it super loose.

Here is a pic of a little race track we made Monday. With the back end chopped and no intake grate it would rather crave the turns than go down the straights, which is fine with me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/racerboypete/carve-2.jpg

Specs:
Dual 46 SRE carbs 135 Low ,137.5 High, 2.3 Needles, Springs ?
V-Force 2 reeds

Stock stroke

85mm Wiseco pistons

ADA head with copper head gasket an no Orings on the domes. No room for them so you have to run copper. Never been a problem. Not sure what the domes are. The motor was assembled by PCM but it has 190PSI

Motor was built at Performance Cycle Machine in Lee NH. I am very happy with him.
http://www.performancecyclemachine.com/

Factory pipe Superjet mod chamber with ported 650 manifold. Top screw open about one turn. Keep the pipe cool enough to barely sizzle at the coupler. Sometimes cooler.

Melted the tank to fit.

MMF water box.

650 electrics. Need to advance them more. I am a little conservative at this point. I might try it almost completly advanced to the left next time I have it apart.

Pump, stock SXR big hub impeller with TBM pump cone I had adapted at PCM to work in the 650 pump. I had the impeller cut back 6mm too.

Dual cooling, 3/8 line to manifold, 1/2 line split to 3/8 to the bottem of head pipe and manifold. 1/2 line goes all the way to the pump.

Hull, cut down in the back so it is flush all the way across, about an inch shorter.

Air is taken in behind the hump on the hood by the steering and the tube tucks in down under the carbs. Seems to be as dry as anything I have run.

Front sponsons, I can't ride an X2 without them. It is like night and day.

UP trim actuated bay lever on bar.

Accusteer, withs stock padding for teeth and floatating. Don't want to loose this on the bottme of the lake so I have lots of foam in it.

Two 500 bilges, one home depot scupper, 1 1/2 in pipe I think.

Slingshot Windsurfer binding with 1" padding under heels, carved out under balls of feet. I will get better pics.......

Dry weight: 310 Dry using ligth weight NAPA glass mat EXT 9 battery with 120 CCA.

About to get a light weight bed plate to save a few more pounds. This is about 40 pounds lighter than my old X2. It was a tank, ask anyone in Daytona that helped me with it.

I skipped the under seat battery, shaved hood, filled gas door and aluminum tank on this to keep it simple and save weight. Every time I cut this it gains weight witht he overlapping of glass.

Oh well, I am seriously considering Daytona...

I would just bring my stocker X2 though. Gives you a good base line for how well yours runs. Ride it, then yours, big difference! Besides... it is more reliable with all my performance parts in boxes on my garage shelves...

Here are some more detailed pictures.

The little NAPA ETX 9 battery I run, Sealed glass mat, 120 cold cranking amps. I trickle charge it sometimes just to make sure it is tip top. It is about half the size and weight of an Oddasey battery. I have it mounted in the hull under the original battery trayp spot to keep it low enough to run my electric box in the bracket about it since the original spot is too close to the carbs.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/racerboypete/ebox.jpg

This is the tank I melted to make fit the Superjet mod chamber.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/racerboypete/tank.jpg

Footstrap, I was kinda in a hurry so a drilled and screw right into the fiberglass. There are 3 pretty big stainless scews holding it down. I use 5200 on the holes. Not sure how long this will last. Might need to epoxy a piece of aluminum in if it pulls out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/racerboypete/footstrap.jpg

Trim system. Uses BMX parts and a hacked up stock unit with a 10mm bolt through it. I drilled a hole in the bolt and threaded the cable throgh the bolt. Two nuts pinch the cable. It is kinda tricky getting the right leverage for this to work. I have re-drilled the holes a few times in different spots.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/racerboypete/trim.jpg

In its current state of tune I get 25 degrees. If I snugged it up a bit I can get 30.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/racerboypete/nozzle.jpg

I am running the 650 stator here but I am about to open it up and kick in some serious advance to see if can take it. I have been easing my way into this new motor. This is actually a picture of my old motor on the bench.

Couple other thoughts:

I put my Jet Dynamics intake back on for surf riding and actually like it better fro the lake too.

I am also going to take another inch off the back of the hull to get me a little higher on flatwater tricks. My trip to Jersey got my Sawzall trigger finget itchy after talking to Joe B and Goose. Those guys are running 3 inches off the back on their superjets and love it.

Pete, before you pull everything, find TDC and mark it through the window. Then borrow a digital dial back timing light and preset it to around 15 degrees, then shoot it at 6500 and fine tune the dial back until it lines up with the mark you made. That would be your current exact timing as you are running now. I plan to get the Equus Pro, so I can get more exact, looking for 18 degrees at 6500.

I just advanced the timing almost as far as it goes (to the left of the line) and it goes really nice. I have 190#'s of compression and tried some race gas at first. Then when thet was gone I ran 93 pump gas. Seemed to be fine on the pump gas. Just no long runs with it wide open. It really improved the bottem end brap. I highly ressomend advancing the timing. It is a lot of bang for the buck.

I am working on getting that picture of the air intake too.

Pete you rotated the stator counter clockwise all the way? I have the stator notch and the notch on the cases lined up, am I retarding it too much? I dont think I am going to reinstall the Jetinetics Aluminum flywheel, as my lightened stocker is pretty painless to deal with.

Crab, how much is concidered a SAFE bump up when running 93 @ 175psi?

Pete, did you saw anymore off the back of the hull?

I rode my new small pin today (stock length hull, and non tubbied). OMG wat a difference than the "Legdragger" hull mods! I cant ride it this way, PERIOD. Its horrible! Going to try tubbie 1's on the new small pin x2 to compair both. Very interested in hacking a few more inches off the back this go around!

My lines are as far apart as possible...almost. Not quite hitting the screw but totally covering the slot in the stator plate. Counter clockwise is advanced. Don't be scared! Just don't do much drag racing with it like that.

No it is just a tube throught hte hump in the hood that drops down the right side of the inner hood just behind the battery real low away from the carb. I will try to steal a camera for you. Sorry it is taking me forever to get a camera near my X2 hood.

That was you?! I would ream you a little since I have one myself and only paid around $75 for it about 5 years ago. Still is a heavy hunk of metal huh? Also you will need longer mounting bolts for both the engine and motor mounts!!!

Don't feel too bad I just placed an off of $325 on this engine.

It doesn't even run. WTF was I hinking? Looks like I will be buying a Hot Rods crank, an ADA head, a FPP 800 SXR wet pipe manifold, a set of 46 or 48 carbs, and a new top end before spring time hits.

Oh yeah,... I will be moving in a few months, this was smart.
What do you guys think? usually a blown rod bearing means pitted heads and cracked cases. I am gonna ask themthose quaestions and then stiff them if it is true. Looks like I may get my first negative feedback yet....

Gives me new hope that someone from this site might buy it.

And that thing weighs 3 pounds, not 2. I say you dispute the sale and get $200 back. lol

You saved 4 pounds. Sorry. Even less if you have a "rusted out" lightening service on a stock plate.

I weighed stock and ocean pro on the shipping scale at work. I got 7lbs and 3 lbs.

legdragger, u said you used mod sj pipe and 650 ported manifold. is that a kawi 650 exh mani? what brand ?

Legdragger
10-28-2007, 07:45 PM
It is a 650 manifold opened up to match the Yamaha headpipe. I think it is a Jetwroks manifold. It is one I got off Ebay a long time ago new. It came wtih these special tiny nuts for the top studs. It has a different angle up to the headpipe from the stock. It is a bit more direct. I think any decent aftermarket manifold would be good though.

dbrutherford
10-28-2007, 08:17 PM
If is came with the top studs... it is a Jet Sports. I had one of those once. works just like any other aftermarket exhaust manifold. Check out this one:
