there is a break somewhere on the east coast called pumphouse. maybe it was there. but that must have been hurricane surf for it to be that big and that clean. those were some big a waves with some power.
that gp tried to do a reentry by itself there at the end. right before it doinked. too funny

pump house is down by West Palm Beach. We used to ride up there from Miami every once in a while when I was growing up. I love it when you get separated and the ski goes all the way to the beach. That happened to me last Daytona ride when both Wavedemon and myself broke down. That sucks!

Nope - does a helmet make you sink? Mine floats - it's full of foam. I've been in surf smaller than that with a helmet and been knocked senseless by a superjet - I can't imagine what a couch that size in surf that size would do to your skull....
let it loose

it doesnt help that i wear a stance jetpilot vest but yes. its a major struggle to get your head out of the water. let alone let enough water drain out of the helmet (mx style) so you can take another breath.
i almost ran out of breath/energy trying to stay afloat in big australian surf after trying a BR rentry on my superjet.

Sounds scary. So I guess that's a pretty heavy helmet? I just started using a Lacrosse helmet - very light and drains quickly. I wonder if I'd have the same problem...?

yeah, once the water gets in the padding it probably quadrouples in wait. not to mention the visor working with the washing water to pull you along. jetski boots that make it nearly impossible to kick.
the worst thing about it is the first time i tried to come up i came up and rammed my head into the tray (the ski was upside down). then another wave came and took me even further. what we call a double hold down. not just one wave but two.
if i would have come up next to the ski the first time i would have had something to hold onto.
AND to make it even worse is we had to tow the ski back out through the huge surf with a 20ft line

I got stuck swiming on the inside on a big day with my helmet on & almost drowned. The only time I've worn it since is Daytona.

I wear a whitewater rafting helmet that is all polystyrene foam w/ a hard plastic outer... it holds nothing and is very light...
ya got to get away from those bulky, neck killers in the surf, you don't need em.

pumphouse is right outside of the palm beach inlet aka lake worth inlet. its a great break, and if it gets to out of control you can always go to the south side of the inlet. maybe you guys have heard of a place called reef road?! anyway, we ride there about once or twice a week. in the winter, its like that alot, at least oncea year, the inlet becomes impassable in the winter, now that takes some giant nutz to go out in that..
heres the link to the surfcam:

-jet pilot stance vest(which arnt coast guard approved in the states)
-about 4kg of helmet
-shoes
-2 wave hold down
which all equals to no energy.
I was a surf life saving competitor for 6 years and a surf life saver for 2 years.
When you live on the gold coast in Australia, you grow up at the beach.
i can handle the surf, just those series of factors didnt help to stay afloat to get deep breaths in before the next wave, thus the loss of energy.

cool.... did you ever compete in worlds against Volusia County???
just wondering.... they are very good and I know Australia and Cali are the other top two.... The charity freeride I do goes to help support their Jr. Lifeguard program... They actually won worlds this year... from what I was told...
