Just throwin this out there, I know this and all of the xh20 events are freeride oriented, but would anyone be interested in racing at all? My idea is to set up a small course, and make heats in any way. Rivalries between friends, similar setup skis, or just random. I know it may not be at Claybanks next year but right out front would be a perfect spot, maybe just require helmets and if its not a real event, just for fun basically i wouldnt see why any waivers would be needed.
I just think there needs to be more going on, sure its a hell of a time all weekend but to drive 7 hrs to basically do the same thing I can do every weekend just seems a lil weak. A lot of you guys drive 1-3 hrs which is what you may drive any other weekend to ride.
I realize with my idea of a some racing why not have a freestyle event, which I would be down for as well but I get the idea of keeping it non competitive in that aspect.
Well lemme know what ya'll think, good/bad?

I dont wanna say I got bored this past year, but there wasnt really anything going on other than the raffle at 10, I def met a lot of sweet people at night but during the day its just a typical ride day.

Can't say I care for racing, but I would like to have some more things going on. Maybe a trick clinic, or sick trick contest. Heck, maybe a sand castle building contest ( we all know there was a LOT of sitting around going on )

Do it. Im sure there are a lot of guys who would be willing to ride their skis even if its a freestyle boat on a buoy course.

I like ripping it up on waves, but racing around buoys can be addicting as well even on a superjet!!!

if you've been to the other rides (FSF, SFF/riot, jersey, etc) they are mostly just getting a crap ton of people together, hangin out, and riding.

at the most, there is sometimes a boat build contest, an improv sick trick contest, and a raffle. it would be cool to get some pro names to show up... remember that this event is still getting larger and more well known.

the first year there were about 40 skis, the next about 60, and this year about 85 give or take. we are big enough now we should be planning earlier and getting some larger publicity...

you'll prolly get shot down on the racing thing... i mean... don't we do that at races? just MHO...

and as far as the UP goes... don't you live up there because it takes friggin 8 hours for anyone to come and bother you?? lol....

I say keep it a Freeride. :starwars: The water conditions were not good this year (1-2 foot chop) Next year we might have 8 footers, or it might be flat enough for some freestyle. I thought it was a great time to relax and ride a bunch of different boats and meet new riders. In other words, don't fix what aint broke. My only suggestion might be to get a couple big boats over there if it is gonna be flat to make some wakes closer to shore.

The campground does put a little damper on the nighttime partying... :fest30:

BTW... The wakes on those cruisers are HUGE!

the only thing that i didnt like was the campground. They were knocking on the motorhome door way to much telling us we needed to be quiet. we might have been a little lound to the neibors and they didnt like when we tried to flip my buddies car over and the walk to and from the beach sucked but i cant think of anyother place to have it other than in ludington pr something
there is a campground there that has simmular setup that isnt so strict
but hey i had alot of fun anyway ill go next year again forsure

I felt alienated at the campground by the police (j.k) who walked around and told people to be quiet. It was like they were watching us and we weren't even being loud. The wedding party was really lame and that ruined it for us. Don't worry will try whatever place next year.

Silver Lake? they don't have a campground on the water. Ludington and Pentwater have campgrounds close or on the water, but they are state parks. State parks are way more strick, my vote is for keeping it at Claybanks and deal with the rent-a-cops. where else are we going to practicly take over a campground and have our skis right on the beach and be able to ride as close to shore as we want?? remember guys, we were able to over look a lot of little things at this campground, like gas on the beach, riding close or as my case maybe on shore, riding next to our "swimmers", like DJkorn when he was video taping. We would have a lot more restrictions at any other campground, unless one of you guys wants to pony up and BUY a lake lot, then we could do almost what ever we want. Last time I checked lake Michigan lots were starting at a minimal $250,000 to $1,000,000. I'm sure that is pocket change to some of you guys, but for me I'll be back at the claybanks next year.

my plan is to not go home with 3 broken skis and spend more then 3 hours at the beach

Ya there really isnt a better spot that I know of than claybanks, and its close to silver lake which is nice for gas and random things you may need, if anyone remembers from this past year I blew up a water box went to the hardware store to get pvc that was a bad idea then some galvanized steal, it was loud as hell but atleast I could ride a lil more.

Maybe one of us can persuade the campground owner to just be a lil more relaxed, its one weekend out of the year and we practically take it over, they should cater to us more.

I still would like to have a lil more going on at the event, like I said I can ride with a few ppl anytime I want why should I drive a couple hundred miles to do the same but see more ppl, I did meet a lot of cool ppl this year but it still seem segregated.

Hey Yooper, sounds like it was boring at times. I live in Ludington and there are about six of us Stand up Riders that ride together. We knew nothing about the Wave Rave of 07. We heard about it after that weekend. We will be there this year....We live 10 min. from Lake Michigan and ride every Sun. afternoon & Wed. evenings all summer long....

Lundington is a great place to ride. short ride though the pier, no haters and if you wanna ride surf its a third of a mile till our out of the swim zone. and if anyone wants to rage on weekends there let me know. my crew is up there ALOT. infact i believe a couple of us rode with hangtime before. as for claybanks, im with him. i didnt heard about it till a couple days before. i think if we got more people involved earlier that way there is less people complaining about it being loud. but we should get somemore stuff going than just that ride.

I am in the printing business..I was thinking of some Hats & T-shirts and vinyl decals are no problem...I have a friend who owns the surf shop in Pentwater..He would donate some stuff like shorts, skim boards, rash guards, etc... So if there is some racing we could award winners with something. Does anyone know of a logo for Wave Rave 2008 ?? Do they just use the same one and change the date ??? I was talking to friends last night about another spot like Claybanks that was nearby, there is one in Ludington called Buttersville Campground, but I think it is stricter w/ more rules than Claybanks...

Thanks you for the ideas, we are keeping track of them. This years Wave Rave should be bigger and better than ever since this ride continues to grow in popularity. Keep in mind we are all volunteers that have full time jobs and families, so when we travel to Claybank Township meeting and call suppliers that is on our dime. An event this size can not happen without the townships appoval. Also this year we will be contacting a couple of you to be "Board Memebers" to share the load and help plan this event. So keep the idea's coming and think warm thoughts, it was 12 degress when I woke up this morning!

Take care, guys.

This is great! Why not get some more vendor to donate then set up a daytona style raffle with all the proceeds going to charity (to be determined) or to rent the whole camp ground so we can be as loud as we want. Just a thought.

Kevin, we appreciate all that everyone does to make this event happen. It was the claybanks ride that got me totally addicted to jetskiing. I see this getting bigger and bigger every year. There are quite a few riders here in Michigan alone. Let us know what we can do to persuade the township and squeak in some more rowdyness. :439:

I would like to see a sickest trick type of exhibition. I could come up with some things for prizes and maybe some of the other vendors could throw in.

Sounds like a great idea, waves permitting, if it was flat we could do a best freestyle round. just get an air horn and a stopwatch. but you can't enter cuz your boat is just too light kyle.

BTW: nice avatar. missed ya in daytona

Lets keep it where it's at. Maybe we can set up a small bonfire or something on the beach and party down there so we don't disturb the campers....

I really think we should all reserve early and try to get the WHOLE CAMPGROUND to ourselves!

there is a campground in ludington called Bittersweet it has kinda the same layout as claybanks but this campground doesnt care what the hell you do we go there fishing 2 times every summer and the last time we went there the owner of the campground got poopfaced with us we were loud and drunk all weekend but its up to you just a suggestion if you are interested heres there # 231-843-2114
adress:
991 S. Lakeshore Dr.
Ludington,MI
i think it would be a great location and we wont get hassled for anything
as far as rideing goes cause its kinda like the claybanks area its secluded
but as i stated its only a suggestion ill be there no matter where the location
