Nuther Superjet...but this one will be cool. :sneaky:

Anyways, I started tear down in December. It took a while to strip the hull, sand it, and defoam.

For the defoam, I opened up the back purdy good and let loose with a wire wheel.

I reinforced back there while I was at it.
Also, all intrusions into the rear were sealed off with 5200.

I tore out my old one way valve (too small) and stuck a big 2 inch valve and pipe in there.

I refoamed with 3lb foam.

After that, the hull weighed in at 120lbs.

Man that looks like a lot of work! I need to do the refoam on mine as well. Also need to fix my caved in gunwales. Repaint and re-turf. Not fun.

Looks like you are doing it right!

Matt_E
04-09-2006, 09:09 PM
Yeah...I really didn't want to dig all the foam out...but Phill talked me into it.

I am glad I did it. There were a lot of small leaks.

Just got done putting black paint on the bottom.

More pictures. That's a nice BIG one way valve. I had to open up the existing holes for that a bit - that also allowed me to bring it more to the bottom

Blowsion kickers. I actually installed those last spring, but took them out for this job.
They're already back in now.

More pics...bottom painted with black. Single stage urethane paint, 2 coats.
That seems plenty.

I'll try to tape tomorrow night so I can spray the copper.

Hey looks good! I think the black will look good. How much of the copper will go on top? You know you have a pic of my hood in there.....

Matt_E
04-10-2006, 02:34 AM
Yeah... I saw that. Oops...I might take it out if lazyness doesn't keep clobbering me.

The top deck will look similar to that orange/black setup someone photoshopped for me at PWCToday when I was looking for paint ideas.

I'm spraying some copper tonight. I had to completely strip the pole down. :aargh4:
I had already primed it, but hadn't taken off all of the previous paint. Then it just kept bubbling up. GAH!

So I stripped it down to bare metal everywhere...gotta prime that tonight.

Matt_E
04-11-2006, 01:55 AM
Moe pics...that looks horrible on the photos, but actually isn't. The lens is dirty, and I Have some dried primer dust on the black.

I need to wait for the copper to fully cure, then I'll wetsand it if needed, and buff it.

Phill
04-12-2006, 12:26 AM
I love that color!!! Make sure you save me some:sneaky: The bottom looks way better than I thought it would!

How did you get primer dust on your freshly painted ski?:banghead:

Are you still going to paint your pole?

Matt_E
04-12-2006, 02:26 AM
The dust....For keeping the black & copper off the top deck, I taped your plastic around the bondline.
After spraying the black, I folded the plastic up so I could cover the black. Unfortunately, it had a bunch of primer on it (dry), so that crumbled off.
I just got done doing a bunch of sanding to the bottom. When I sprayed the first coat of black, I went too thick and had a few runs. I went up all the way to 3000 grit :o, and tomorrow I'll buff it out.

I'll prime the top deck and pole tomorrow.

Don't forget 2Lick and I think 1 other guy. I bought my paint a couple of months ago and it was like $110 a pint for the custom copper mix so there is no going back for me.

Hey it looks good! I see you are already being gentle with the bottom (rags on the stand), you know you will be running that thing up on the beach in no time!! (I might even run into it for you!)

Please tell us how you got copper paint spray on the black?

Sam looks so much like Josh!!

Matt_E
04-16-2006, 12:05 AM
Yeah, I figure 10 minutes on the water with you, and either my ski is sunk, has cracks in the hull, or your engine blows up.

As for the overspray...that's secret squirrel stuff, and it was on purpose. :sneaky: That's all you need to know. :sneaky:

How about YOUR ski, huh?

I am working on it. Got the front exhaust all installed! :Banane01:
Getting the flex hose, tee, and waterbox installed was kinda challenging. I might turf tomorrow.
I might have my piston rings before the weekend - in which case I might take it for a spin.

Sweet!! What all is done to the motor?

Matt_E
04-18-2006, 11:44 PM
It's a 61x/62T motor - currently at 736cc, freestyle ported (both cylinder and cases - did it myself, check the porting 101 thread in tech FAQ).

Dual 44's on a Riva Manifold, VForce2, MSD Digital Total Loss, B-Mod, ADA Girdle head 200psi, all topped up with a Concord Cutback 13/16.

I'll post a complete list of everything on the ski after it's done.

More pics. I had it out on the water today.

Bottom end is WAAAAAAAAY too rich....it would take a couple to three or four seconds to clear up.

That bugs me - I ran the exact same jetting last year for a couple of hours, and it was fine. I guess I dropped about 15psi of compression and added more extensive porting. And I got the carbs reversed now.

Matt_E

It was 51 degrees according to the Army COE, air about 70. REALLY REALLY NICE!

Seriously, it was great. I could have stayed out for a couple hours if it ran right. I was out a total of 20 minutes or so.

Water is right at 52 degrees...very nice. Makes me think that when you and me started riding last year, it MUST have been quite a bit colder than that.

Anyways, I got more tuning to do....ran bad today. (Just got back).
