I just sheared the motor mounts and drive shaft coupler doing a nose stab. Pics will come wednesday. It.......was......so......cool!

:cool2::woot::brap:

Now does anyone know what mounts to get and where, what coupler to get (Riva or stock), and what other parts and/or tools I might need to fix it?

I definitly wouldnt think it would be cool if it happened to me..but whatever floats you ski.

I'm not really happy that my ski is broken and now I have to fix it.

But I do thinks it's cool that I had the balls to do something insane enough to break it!

%#@*!, I'm trying to stay positive!

You don't even have anything to get a pry bar on to get the coupler off... ouch. Good luck!!

I got the motor out yesterday but didn't have time to do anything else.

I'm going to try a huge pipewrench and a hammer. My bendix was going out anyway so I'll pull the flywheel and get a grip on that end instead of putting rope in the cylinder.

I consider myself lucky that the midshaft coupler and housing wasn't damaged.

Oh Yeah....Forget all the other comments I made......

THIS SUCKS!

Do you have access to a welder or know someone who does? If so try this:

http://www.x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=16829

Just take some scrap steel and a socket, mark on the steel the shape of the busted coupler, then weld three smaller pieces on the marks, weld the socket to the center, put some rope in a cylinder, insert air tool and there you go, instant removal

I got it off by putting a puller on the flywheel, then putting the puller in a vise and using a huge pipe wrench and a hammer on the broken coupler.

It was actually pretty easy.

I gotta give credit to :hail:Kevin at legdrag.com for helping me out with parts and advice. He told me to use a pipe wrench and hammer, the "puller in a vise" part I came up with myself.

Oh trust me, I am. So what's the next most common damage done trying to freestyle? I figure I'll start preparing myself.

Get ready to start ripping the nose off frequently. Carry duct tape if you don't want it to ruin your day completely.

Check the flywheel key before you put it back together. I sheared mine holding the flywheel and using a breaker bar on the coupler. Didn't know it until I was at the water...it wasted a day. :banghead:

Thanks WAB, I checked it when I replaced my bendix (it was starting to give me problems). I put the engine back together last night and mounted it in the hull (with kenny keepers!). Tonight I'll put everything else back together and hope and pray I did it right and it all works on Saturday.

I did the same, compressed the rope. That's some serious force. I did not want to crack a dome, or damage needle bearings on the pistons so I stopped doing that for removing the coupler.
I had to get a friend and use a chain vice grip around the flywheel, heat the hell out of the coupler with a torch, and both use big breaker bars.

great that will be fun...see my problem is i have a bilit coupler on the midshaft and a stocker on the crank..i need to change one or the other..i thought it would be easier to do the crank side but i guess i was wrong...i am getting another midshaft so mabye i should just put a stocker on that and then put the billit one on my new ski although that coupler probally wont be any easier to take off

Dude look at the pics I posted earlier in the thread. Putting a puller on the flywheel and a vise on the puller worked great! It was so easy even. I heard that heating the coupler is a bad idea cause it can damage the crank seals. Good luck!

I got my ski back together last night, man I hope it works OK today.

I don't think I could do a nosestab on my xp...I ride flatwater...but I'm willing to try!

I put my superjet in the water today and it wouldn't start. I think it has something to do with replacing my fuel lines. I got spark and compression but it won't start. Check out my thread under driveline..superjet pulse lines problems (or something like that). I'm so pissed I couldn't ride today!!!!!!!

:grouphug:Thanks to everyone who helped with or shared my ordeal!

I had the supply line and pulse line switched up on my carbs and now it starts fine, but let's keep that on the down low :shhh:

:fingersx:Man I hope it runs ok on the water

This may sound like a stupid question but can someone explain the concept of kenney keepers to me? I've seen pics of them on websites forsale but I don't understand how they help keep the mounts from breaking...Thx

keep the motor from going forward when you hit the bottom..they do nothing for landing upside down
