ok. I heard 2 stroke.. with two different sizes 701 or 760..
if 760 it has 61x cylinders..
one guy said 701 the other 760 both said 61x cylinders

michael950
06-18-2007, 02:51 PM
From what I heard, it's going to be direct injected which sounds probable due to the CARB requirements.

Of course my info is hearsay from: 2008 Yamaha Superjet (http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=116088)

Im new to all this 61x 62t stuff, but I have a 05 completely stock bought new in january and it has 62t cases with a 61x cylinder. Is this not normal? The head says 64u as well as the stator cover, but stamped in the case is a 62t and the cylinder between the carbs has 61x.

Yamaha seams to think it's the Rolls Royce of the watercraft scene, it's products are timeless.

nikad58
06-18-2007, 04:44 PM
Rumor says... oh it might even have a 760 type cylinder with 61x porting specs and thicker sleeves to allow up to a 86mm bore... new bottom maybe top.. pole will change.. from what i heard was.. only the cases/crank will be left over from earler years.

I didnt hear anything about a 4 stroke or intake system

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the hull will be something like was Rius has been using for a couple of years over in Europe for the GP class. Here is a link to some photos and article from a reporter in Greece. You can use Babelfish to translate it to English.

I won't believe it till I see it. :frown: The only thing that the suits want to do is sell skis and to make a ski more powerfull and a tiny bit more stable won't sell to the masses like the SXR did. They will have to lower the price and increase stability. And have you even met an engineer that cared about weight... NO then the thing will weigh a freaking TON... and be strong enough to play chicken with a barge.

Ok my rant is over someone prove me wrong..... PLEASE

It doesn't matter I am still waiting to put my ADA motor in a Trinity hull

And have you even met an engineer that cared about weight...

Anyone who designs anything to fly, or go on an aircraft.

Anyone who designs anything to go into orbit.

Anyone who designs anything to be carried/worn by a person.

Anyone who designs vehicles propelled by a person.

Anyone who designs anything that has to be shipped somewhere.

Anyone who....

You get the idea. I never met an engineer who wasn't concerned with weight: that's a primary requirement for almost anything that's made, including the new SJ, one would suspect.

Well, I guess here is a little more.........................

This thing wasn't done by a "stuffed shirt" , It was done by a past world freestyle champ.... one of us!!!!
It's has basicly the same weight as todays SJ & is being deemed
"The best freeride hull ever produced" (I belive that statment means by an oem)
I don't think you have to worry about it being like the SX-r in any fashion!

I know the Yamaha plant is 5 mins down the road from my house. I just don't care if they change it. I have an 06 similiar to the one you are selling so I won't be buying a new one. Knowing what I know now I would probably not buy a new one anyways. I would buy an aftermarket hull and build it up. Buy the time you buy a new superjet and junk half the parts for aftermarket stuff you could build up an AM hull.

I don't know a thing.

Seeing as how I have 17 year old square I'm not one to ride the "I've got to have the latest and greatest" wave but am still some what curious.

Years of waiting for a new GPR from Yamaha (even after many reassurances from the ones "in the know") has taught me better though.

Rumors... only rumors... fact will be known soon !
Wellllll I just got off the phone with someone i suspect has one.. he wouldn't confirm or deny having one, only a very long pause.. I will start with the powerplant questions.. After 15 or so minutes of shooting the ********tt he told me straight out 701cc ( he could have said unknown).. After him talking/fighting with Yamaha Japan for the past year the power plant will stay the same 701 as it has been for warranty reasons.. to go bigger they felt a new drive shaft, waterbox, exhaust, motor mounts, etc. would have to be designed/built and would raise the price up.. They want to stay within the SXR price with a bullet prof ski !

More on the hull later !

i have thought about this whole new sj thing and here is my take. if the drive line stays the same or even if it is a 760 w/ 61x port timing i would be keeping my engines instead. so lets see here. brand new sj prolly around 7 grand. with a new stock motor i could probably sell my 04 sj for 3 grand. that means i would have to come up with $4000 for a new sj hull....i would be swapping engines with my current setup. well for a little more than that i could had a watercraft factory hull that would probably weigh less.

Nope, they do not care for racing......... Look at the runabouts, they use to dominate the 1200 class, now, they do not offer anything....... Not even a 4stroke is being raced by anybody.............

Why...anybody who is the chit in freeride is not using a Yamaha hull and the ones that are are heavily modified. Almost nothing to do with stock. They couldnt make a factory freeride ski..it would cost as much as a Hydrospace.

Romor say... The new hull is to be said 2.5 mph faster in all conditions than the old hull and turn SXR like.. It would seem racing does have a impact !

Seems odd that Yamaha would try and retool/design and spit out a new superjet in less than 6 months into a gamble of free ride ! if it was for free ride they could have done more... or did they ? It would have been just fine to beef up the old hull, lower hood/pole and call it the FRSJ..

Above picture Looks like a 07' to me ! ohhhh thats what you have.. lol mine is just like that but with a parachute !

I predict a SXR type bottom with very similar top deck and same motor, carbs, and electronics. the Hull will be good but it is not going to be a SXR killer on the course with the 701.

This is preciseley why they need to change. No they cannot make a ready to go freeride boat and no one ever has (excluding Malones $31,000 "production boat"). They also have never made a ready to race boat, Polaris tried, hydrospace tried, but no dice. But they take some of the ideas from the changes made in the aftermarket world and use them. Like less weight, more HP, stronger handle pole or just a bottom deck design change to make the over all platform the platform of choice to a freerider or a racer that will draw attention to thier product. Kawasaki does well with this in racing but Yamaha doesnt seem to care about either anymore they are stagnet. We will be piecing old SJ parts together forever it seems.

I don't disagree with you - Yamaha didn't really get connected to the freeride thing till a couple of months ago, so there's no way that figured into their thinking for the '08. I have no idea what the '08 will be, nor any predictions, beyond the fact that it's a major rev, and not just BNG.

I doubt freeride was in there minds very much. But Im just guessing.

this is what i heard

production
500 for the states, 1500 overseas 2000 total
same 701 motor for united states, 760 piston in 61x cylinders for overseas
new prop
shorter driveshaft
bottom is different tapers in, in the middle but same length
top is same
black top, white bottom, fiberglass resin and cloth is black , no more scratches
Rius is running one right now, in overseas competition

Msrp $6400

I was told it handles better that the old sj in the corners with less "slide out" and is marginally faster.

But wait: Something more exciting Yamaha has a sport class boat again real similar to the new x2 in size and it has the 800 66e motor in it But it will only be for overseas buyers

I also heard all about some new supercharged 4 stroke sitdown that supposed to be really fast, but due to my runabout a.d.d. i didn't listen to well about it.

I agree, like my last post they won't build anything that we WANT because it won't sell to the public. The public needs a fun easy to ride ski. And the main thing is a price tag that is under the kawasaki. How many people do you know that bought a new SXR. And when you ask why not a SJ, their reasoning was "because it was cheaper than the SJ's"

I know of 3 or more.. come to think of it there might be 5 that used that excuse. In a riding group of about 10.

(Nothing else has been confirmed as "for-sure" on here).

I called Yamaha Corporate personally and NOBODY knows anything. I talked to about 10 people. They say that NOBODY is allowed to talk to the design teams. There are NO pictures floating around Yamaha Corporate. All they know is new Superjet.

Its called a confindentiality agreement. You sign it you can play with cool stuff. You talk about it and you get sued. Thats why I find it hard to believe anything that has been said in this thread or somebody is sweating bullets hopeing they dont get fingered as leaking the info.

It was tested last winter at Allatoona, the Yamaha watercraft division is just down the road from the freeride campground. You see all kinds of stuff up at the Lake during the Winter months. You just have to know where to look.

Is it going to be FI? It would almost have to be for emission reasons? Maybe low production numbers can get them around that or emission credits from the rest of the line that is 4 stroke or FI 2 stroke?

that explains why they are told to not say ********, but not why its held a secret. what company would give a sh!t that yamaha is finally revamping a somewhat dated ski!

If you don't think Yamaha likes this Buzzzzzzz, you are smokin crack...

I seriously doubt anyone has actually seen it, just a lot of logical assumptions on what they will do going on here.... There are only so many things that could be changed...

It's either:

bigger / smaller
heavier / lighter / same weight
4 stoke / 2 stroke
larger cc / same cc
different top deck / same top deck
differnent bottom deck / same bottom deck
new pump / same old pump
new composites / same SMC constructionother than those factors, really what else is there to change???
my picks are in bold

The only reason i can see them changing anything at this point is because they are no longer available to sell in Cali or New York as new skis (due to emmisions laws). Not sure how state sales breakdown, but i gotta figure with the populations of both Cali and NY they've gotta be feeling that hit.

The only way for me to buy a new SJ in NY is to have someone out of state buy one and sell it to me as a used ski... :bs2:
