I am in for wherever. Personally I am particular to Canyon down here near SA because the water is just so damn beautiful and clear....and it's close. Wherever it is, someone needs to have some knowledge of the camping sites.

I think Somerville is still a pretty central location and we know the campsite already???

Texoma is NORTH of Dallas. Lewisville would be better, or lake Dallas.

If we want to do Canyon, then we will also need to figure out the campsites. I have never camped there myself.

There is Potter's Creek Park on the north side of the lake that allows camping and has electrical hook-ups, flush bathrooms, boat ramps, etc......

http://www.recreation.gov/nrrs/Potter_S_Creek_Park/Campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?page=details&agency=NRRS&parkId=5020

I will take a drive up there this weekend if everyone is interested in this site and check out the campsites to see which would be best.

Thats were we camped when we went last year.Nice park we stayed on the point.

I've seen the park from the water, but I am usually on the south side of the lake. My concern at that park is I know there are many sites that have zero shade which could be awfully warm in July. I have no problems driving out there this weekend to scope some shaded spots.

We need a roll call of who is ok with using Canyon and what dates so we can get sites reserved.

Skinnyman, that was a great camping spot and a good vacation. Beautiful, clear water, nice spot, pavillion and all. But what I remember was some FLAT water and NO big boats. Honestly, if we're going to drive that far, I'd rather drive a little farther and hit the surf. Or drive a lot less and go to Texoma for some BIG boats!!

Pit bikes allowed at the beach.

Just my 2 cents.

Comal is a day park only...no overnight camping.

The shade issue is why I will happily drive over there this weekend and scope it out...IF we actually decide on Canyon.

I still suggest the last weekend of July or the first weekend in August.

Yo, your quickness, I think the lake south of here (fort worst) is lake Pat Cleburne. Really not a lake worth planning a ride around.

I suppose Canyon is good for us (Deezknutz46, Upchuck possibly Concussion), "ain't never been there, they tell me it's nice." Sorry bout that, just heard some Joe Walsh.

We need some kind of concensus here. I already proposed a couple of dates before (July 27-29 or August 3-5) and it looks like most are ok with Canyon. I am heading up to Austin tomorrow and will stop by the park to check out which campsites are the best (shade, access to water's edge, boat ramp, and bathrooms).

what camp ground?
Potter's Creek Park. I drove through there today and the best campsites in relation to the water do not have any trees, however, there is a covered picnic table on each, so there is shade.
There is a map here http://www.recreation.gov/nrrs/Potter_S_Creek_Park/Campsite_Map/r/campgroundMap.do?camparea=MAIN&agency=NRRS&parkId=5020

I would recommend sites 115-124 (specifically 121-124) due to them being on the end of the point. These are tent sites only and we would need 4-5 of them I would guess, since each site can only have 2 vehicles and up to 10 people. For those bringing RVs...sites 105-114 are right there as well (specifically 107-109).

The sites that have trees are further from the water (66-81).

The other good spot would be sites 62-66. These are family sites that can have more vehicles and up to 20 people.

July 27-29

Works for me!

How many kittens did he make? You know she (the cat) can get him for 20% of his income on the first kitten and 5% for each additional kitten up to 50% of everything he makes. Maybe that'd teach him to "poke fun" at your cat!

WaveGodNESS how far is your house from the camp site?

Tim you going to make it bro??
I like your idea of using the old pickets from the fence. they stack nice, but burn quick

Haven't talked to Momma yet. We've been slammed at home and work lately. Its highly likely. I may even run over by myself if it comes to it.

Get ONE THING STRAIGHT, Its Cat'S.. remember the lil cat has a big ass nose like you know who.
Hell yes I miss him, he was the best maid I ever had!!!! and I didnt have to pay him, only let him hump my cat.

Well, since your nose is bigger than mine, I wouldn't say the nose on the cat is a good way to tell if you're the dad or me! But, if the cat grows up and is a PRO FREESTYLER and not some gay washed up racer........then I'll claim it :barrel::woot::splatt:

Kunta made me say it :haha:

any one know if golf carts are allowed in the park, some one asked me and i said i would post and find out.

The Penguin

the standard answer is usually "only registered vehicles are allowed"

so if the cart has a valid license plate - then they can't prohibit it.

Per park regulations....Vehicles used off roads are prohibited. (I can't see them not allowing a golf cart based on that definition)

Also....Rock fire rings or ground fires are prohibited. Fires must be confined to grills designated for that purpose. I guess I will bring my outdoor fireplace.

are the grills on the ground or on posts off the ground?

They are the standard park grills on a post. However, the way the rule is written, a fire can be started in ANY grill that is designed for that purpose, so i am bringing my BBQ smoker for cooking and an outdoor fireplace that will work better than their pits.

I'd love to make it this time. Never been to Canton Lake. What would I have to reserve? Anyone got a link?

Works for me!

See here!!

The tent sites are right on the water. The RV sites are a little further away, but still close.
You can get the address here Mick:

Whats this permission crap? First its wasps. then its early morning bugle calls and dash out the door. :fart:

I'd do this to you :nutkick:. But it would be like kicking a chick.

Well, my wife attempted a little sabotage. She wanted me to go stay with her and the baby in Austin and then go for a few hours to Canyon Lake. ROFLMAO. The next day, she told me her brother's family might be visiting us in Houston that weekend. I told her I hope they have fun while they're here.

The only thing that will keep me from Canyon Lake is weather or Ferrari shopping after hitting the lottery the day before.

Anyone been out to Potters this past weekend? Last weekend (July 28, 29) the lake was so high, we had the front bumpers on the trucks a good 5 feet past the water edge to launch the Skis at launch 5. I am sure launch 6 would be fine since it is so steep. I got to think potters being so flat is going to be a bear to launch if the lake is still way high (9+ feet as of this post).

Boat ramp 6 & 7 are open on the South side of the lake. During the weekend, it's around a 30minutes wait to put your boat/ski in.
