I, being the green blooded Kawi rider that I am, don't know crap about those blue skis..but my brother is building a roundnose.
Which 701 is the good engine? 61x or 62T? Or should he go straight for the 760?
So far he has:
Cases
650 Crank (is this anygood?)
2000 Hull with footholds and tubbies
Pole
Steering
Steering Cable
Pump
(and not so big of a budget)
He can do all the engine work, but I am in charge of finding the parts for a decent price. Any advice would be great.

You need 61X or 61T cases and a 61X cylinder (preferably). A 62T cylinder bored 3mm is essentially a 760 cylinder. You can bore the 61X cylinder to "760" cc as well.

the 650 crank is the same stroke as the 701 and 760 I think I've heard there are minore differences though (not sure if it can be used in all cases). Generally people want the 62t case for more HP potential and the 61x cylinder for more bottom end. if the budget is small, an all 61x is a very good motor and a little less money.

I'm sure it was a type-o.

My bad, that was a typo, I typed that while watching tv :frown:

The cranks are all the same.
korn
he can use that crank it is fine, the cases i have are 62t, he will need a 61x top end and then he has a normal 701 superjet config.
he can get however get a r eally good set 61x cases that will need no work for a song. if he wants
he needs electronics too and he should be able to use many combinations in that part

Thanks... He definately wants to fix up your old cases (weld em or whatever).
Can he use any electronics with your cases and a 61x cyllinder?

thanks wave.. you posted the same time I did!
cool, i will clean em up and see what the real damage is
ie crack vs. ported too aggressively etc
and just
christ who knows we'll see what douche bag did here finally

does it really matter about the flywheel .
i have read about people swapping to a 61x flywheel to shave a bit of wieght or were they needing to swap out the stator as well
what diff. is there in the stator
just curious cuz i have no idea what kind of mutt set up i have

how's that hood comin.... cold for a few days!
slow motion on the hood started to sand it is about all
i have been endlessly cleaning my cyl's after sandblasting the stuff got everywhere despite my best attepts and closing everything up and it just sticks to everything(esp. in places i can't reach of course like the transfer ports) . last thing i need is silica sand ripping up the fresh bore
thanks for the breakdown on stators slfsurfrider

6m6 and 61x stators mount onto the cases like a kawi 650.
62t stator mounts onto the flywheel cover like a kawi 750.
isnt it only the 64x (760) that mounts like that
i thought the 62t had the same as the 61x and the 6m6
its only the 64x that has the stator in the flywheel cover

WAX is correct.

so on the stator issue - I have a set of 62T cases to build a 701. I was going to use all the electrics from my 6m6.
Will that still work as long as I use the 6m6 flywheel cover?

Yes---your setup will work fine like that. Mailing your cylinder to Paul today.
