Current is 30 to 40MPH and I would say I went half mile before Korn saved my sorry azz. And my ski went a little further until R Mau saved it.
I will never ever let go again!!!
No one was really wearing helmets back then but I think I will if I ever go again.

As a kayak paddler, I'm not sure you guys fully grasp the seriousness of what you are getting youself into. It sure looks like fun, but if you guys do this regularly it's gonna end badly eventually. Helmets wouldn't be a bad idea either. I don't want to rain on your parade, but if something tragic happens I'll feel bad if I didn't say something. Have fun and be careful!

Something tragic already did happen there. Jimmy lost his ski and almost his life there.
Superjet3
05-28-2007, 10:32 PM
Yeah man you are lucky! Never let go. Jimmy did a similar bail and his ski went down and never returned!!! Luckly Pete was able to grab Jimmy before he went under for good.. Niagra is definatly an experience. However, you must never take the river for granted. Did you guys ride up to the giant whirl pool past devils hole?
MADMAT
05-29-2007, 09:11 AM
Yes we did. That was more of an unplanned thing. We had all ridden up past the hole and just kept going. We were all looking at each other constantly and I think we were all very aware of what could happen.
Just can't let go and you gotta be wide eyed!!!
This place ain't for everyone and I don't even know if I would do it again.

I'd try that ............... in my kayak. I've been pulled into hydraulics and bounced off rocks before. I don't think I would try that on my ski yet. Looks like alot of fun anyway.

My little footage is nothing. I just wanted to post it.
I'm pretty sure Malone did a barrel roll there. And I'm pretty sure Paul did also.
Thanks for posting those Matt.......... That was super cool riding there!
But Dangerous is an understatment!!!! Almost losing Jimmy was a hair rising experiance to say the least. He spent some time with me reciently & we talked about it....... He has only been back on a stand-up a couple of times since, he really doesn't have much desire to ride anymore.....
it shook him up that bad!
If any of you think about doing this,
make sure you go as a group, set up safety teams, Know your abilities!!!!! & always keep in the back of your mind, " this place can kill me!"
oh yea, take lots of pics for the rest of us!!! video is better!

I have a ton more Niagara Video. It will be in "Jet Tards IV: The Final Chapter". Matt traveled about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile before I could get to him :scared:and he was stuck in a pissed off little whirlpool. :skull2::skull2: Letting go of your ski there is NOT an option. :skull2::skull2: He was lucky his ski went the direction it did, or it would be gone.
Really reliable powerful boats, hood straps, bilges, scuppers, ropes, loops, helmets and really good lifevests are a must (no wakeboarding vests). It is an amazing place, but definitely, like Paul said, somewhere you can instantly die at any moment. That always has to be in the back of your mind.
Kayakers, forget it. :dunno: I believe only 3 have survived this river. There are also Jetboats to dodge (they don't move for you).

No. It's 90' deep and not a rock in sight until you go over to the edges.

i am guessing you guys were playing in the white part of the river. the rest doesnt look too bad.

Green is just fast moving river with little to medium whirlpools/rapids EVERYWHERE.
White is Devils Hole class 5+ rapids. Ludacris. Noisy. 90 feet deep. Thats where ya play. Once you get past it, it is similar to green again except that you know what is ahead of you.............and you know what is behind you.
Yellow is instant death I imagine.

man....if the white drawing is class 5+ then the yellow section where the river is white must certainly be death. that is just insane.

Better pics..........
Yellow zone is where you can semi relax and play lookout from some flat rocks. You still have to hang on to your ski and prop yourself back due to the current.
Red is Devils Hole. Giant class 5+ rapids that move back and forth as they wish.
Above that you head up river to the whirlpool and it aint pretty.
Coming back is insane!!!!!!!!!

going there was the best thing I ever did on my ski. I didnt ride in the hole itself but i rode out to it. The ride there is an experience all on its own. The little whirlpools are fun and the scenery cant be beat. Mind you, when I went there, I had a 650sx and only rode it about 10 times before that so if I had more experience I may have tried it.

yea its pretty cool, i actually work in the shop building them now which is pretty cool, thinking about making an aluminum hulled stand up jetski. They are actually triple 500HP motors, going about 1500 HP and can move at about 60mph with 48 people on board. Still can't wait to take my oldschool ski out in the next few weeks once i paint it.
