No wrecks to report, this time, but damn I'm sore. I've been getting terrible arm pump when I ride, and today was the worst. I can ride lap after lap no problem, but the arm pump is so bad I can't safely ride the bike so I have to get off the track. After about 10 good fast laps the arm pump goes away, and I'm ready to ride with the faster guys.

Any tricks for getting rid of the arm pump, or minimizing it any?

Try to extend your arms for a sec on the longer stretches like pushing the bike from you (don't overextend!), that might help...

I did a lot of stretching today, as well as keeping up on the hydration hours before I rode, and during.

I thnk it might have something to do with me not exerting myself all the way in a couple years.

or... the mass quantities of beer that I consume :)

Use the time you spend in the air to relax your hands. It helps tons!

That's a good one Ronny! I've been trying to loosen up while I'm on the track but there's not a lot of opportunity to relax when 10 experts are breathing down your neck!

I'll try that next time. If I wreck, it's your fault!!!!! :)

stretch your arm out and pull back on your finger tips

Wet your gloves before you ride. I dont why but it seems to help. If not make an appointment with Dr. Ting to get arm pump surgery.

you can't properly hydrate hours before you ride, try and do it a few days before and during your riding. when all else fails try a bc powder and water. taste like sh*t but it really works for me.

don't white-knuckle-grip-of-death it up the faces of the jumps. :-)

That has to be a contributing factor. I'm not a big jumper, or I should say I'm not one to jump very high. And I death grip like a case of rigamortis!

I have a TON of bad habits I'm trying to break when I ride, and it looks like my list is getting longer!

Thanks guys!

i'm the same way josh.. stricky used to love jumping.. i was all about lap times... and jumps were never the most confident part of the track for me either..

i went through the same arm pump problem you're having now, and that was 90% of it for me.. once i learned to relax when jumping, it really helped the arm pump.. may sound dumb, but i used to yell "woohoo!" under my helmet over the jumps.. helped me learn to relax a little.

once you're comfortable over the jumps, we can talk about the whooped out 4th gear straightaways.. those were my favorite FO SHO and another excellent arm pump creator!

stricky used to laugh at me cause when we would ride together, that's where i would blow by him. he used to tell me that the back of my bike was just swapping left and right all over the place and it looked crazy! man, i just loved the feeling of coming around the corner before the long whooped straight, jumping the small double right out of the corner in 2nd gear then clicking up to 4th in the air and just pinning it in the air .. landing, and just shooting through the whoops... what a rush!!!! 5-6 laps of that and my arms were TOAST!
saki, I think you better go buy another bike...

Ride, and ride, and ride, and ride, and ride some more. Ride 5-6 days a week

be sure to squeeeze with ur legs. the more u do that, then the less u have to hold on to the bars. it also helps thru whoops.

find the roughest track you can and ride there all the time for practice. You'll kick it real quick. Try to warm up you arms too, your going from doing nothing to all out racing in one shot, do some exercises before you go out on the track.
