View Full Version : Great Beach Dolly

Got my beach dolly in the mail today from Justin Luinstra at 321 Racing. His number is 316.321.7433.

Big thanks to LisaLisa and Kahuna for getting us in touch with him.

The rig is amazingly solid and breaks down into four pieces: the handle, body, and both wheels.

He's selling them at a friggin steal: $200 plus shipping (which was $35 in my case)

Quick release axles
Zerk fittings on the wheels for lubrication
Locking winch with crapass hook that I immediately replaced with a better one (because I saw Harrison's hook shoot out the back of a ski and launch towards the user at about a hundred miles per hour  )
Carpeted bunks with beveled interior edge

I got mine yesterday...and I have a bruise on my back from the crappy hook un-bending and popping out. The rest of the cart is awesome.

what's it made out of?

what's it made out of?

Powder-coated steel tubing. (I think)

It looks pretty nice for the money and its built low enough to make loading easy.

The only problem I see is that it’s made from steel so if you use it in saltwater it’s going to rust.

I think it's steel. I know that bitch is heavy. A magnet sticks to it like glue.

Yep that's the only reason I didn't pick up one a while back.

I can't wait to get my big foot, but I was lucky enough to find one used. If I was stuck buying one new then I would definitely get this one for $200 cuz it's a whole lot cheaper than a bigfoot for $550:bigeyes: , but in you're case you didn't have to buy a trailer so spending a little more on a good beach cart was worth it.

that looks to be a really well made dolly!

dont tell the guy i said this but, I dont see how he can build those and sell them for $200, not even considering materials!

He doesn't. they are new-old-stock Kawasaki units that I think were originally sold for the X-2. When Kawi discontinued them Justin's dad bought a couple hundred. I think he is down to ~50 now. Hurry and get one (I bought two).

gotcha!

I dont need one though, I COULD use one, but I dont NEED one.

that explains the build qwuality and apparent materials too, back when the X2 was popular steel wasnt as much as gold.

I got a aluminum one that is just like a big foot for 125 shipped when tigershark went out of business. I just had to move the bunks in 2 inches on each side for a standup.

My buddy and I found a bigfoot for $175 used about 2 weeks ago. It cost about $40 in gas to get it, and then cost about $40 to get the rails cut and welded toward the center. So $255 for a mint condition bigfoot wasn't bad. It had to be modified b/c it looked to me to be made for a sit down. It is also pretty long. We're gonna cut about 1.5 feet out of its length also to fit a stand up perfectly. That can be done without welding.

I use these Kawi dollies from Justin for all my ski's. Tow them with 4-wheeler and beach launch no problem.

Have an extra one, brand new in boxes, if anyone in/near Michigan was interested.

Just keep it lubed and sprayed off after use.......... I know several racers who have used them with no issues in the salt........ It like your ski..... you have to take care of it.

Use it in the salt, when you see some rust building if it does.
Take it down and have it galvanized. You might have to drill out any holes +1/32 and machine down a few slipjoints if it has any.

Or take it to a weld shop and have them copy it in SS or aluminum.

But 200 for that frame seems to be a good deal even if its used in salt.

Lowe's.

It's two pieces and both are in the chain section in hardware.

Those look nice but since I only ride in salt it wouldn't work for me .
I'll have to pony up for a Big Foot :frown:

Fathom, you kick a@# thanks for the quick responces and pictures.

Do you always load it from the back?

Fathom
06-21-2007, 09:06 PM
It's set up that way. There is a little slider plate on the handle to protect the handle from the ride plate. Putting in is an easy one-man operation. Loosen the winch and slide the nose into the water. The motor sits right on the axle that way too making it very easy to move and maneuver.

97Friar
06-21-2007, 09:08 PM
I'm going to put an SXR on it which is bigger than your squarenose, do you think it's big enough?

Justjoe has an SXR that fit on one. I had a photo of it on the trailer I'll see if I can dig up.

Shonuff is not telling yall the WHOLE story.

those dollys are NICE, but they need brakes, and they are really hard for skinny drunk dudes to pull uphill with skis.

NOTE: ive never used any other beach dolly.

I like it, but I think I would flip the axles around so it was higher up in the air... too low for me to deal w/ at my height

Fathom
06-22-2007, 05:23 PM
I thought about doing that when I was initially erecting the cart. I'm only 5'8" and for me it's fine as is but wondered how it would word flipped.

I saw a beach cart at some online store last week new for $325. I think it was made of aluminum. I can't find the link and my google searches are finding much more expensive products. I thought that was a good price, but maybe it was steel which would explain why, but I could of sworn it said aluminum. I should have bookmarked it.

can you flip the wheels on this so it sits higher? If not can it be easily modified to do it?

anyone know the weight?

gmjim
02-06-2008, 07:11 PM
You can flip the wheels so the bunks sit higher. That is how I have mine, otherwise it tends to drag the rideplate in the dirt sometimes. I also bought a couple of pieces of 2 inch square tubing and welded them at an angle and mounted them below the winch on the underside. I bolted a ball hitch on the end of it and now I can tow it around with a golf cart or 4 wheeler and can still maneuver it around by hand also.

what did you all pay recently for this cart? I called him on friday and he said he wanted 300 plus shipping. WHy is he all of a sudden gouging me for an extra hundred. Seems like a nice cart but for 350 to my door i could prolly have a friend weld up two out of something else. Should i try to call him out. I ride freshwater 90% of the time.

Big Kahuna

not sure how it would do on the VX, this tote is short and designed for a standup or X2.

VX would be really heavy to try and move around.

uh, if you lengthened it some, added some gussets and cross members..... oh wait, you just built a trailer....

uh, sure it would, but the handle would be up under the ski.

ok, sorry for the sarcasm. Would it handle it, probably, but it is too short. Not really designed for one.

I had called about 2 months ago and he wanted $250. I just called to order one and he said $350 because the demand has gone up although he said he had 8 or 9 left, which was the same number he told me 2 months ago....oh well. I guess I need to keep looking. Not much of a "deal" at $400 shipped for a steel beach cart.
