View Full Version : If you were to build a show ski

I want to build a show ski. This project will be a long time in the works because quite honestly I don't have the time right now, but I think that it would be great to document all the steps in detail. Part of my motivation was the superb post by slut, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't influenced by the JR Magoo ski built by Paul L; I really don't have the intention of spending nearly as much on mine though.

Hey guys, I really value all your input; can you please tell me what you would do to make this an outstanding and special project.

I would like to see a clear hood that could handle free style and show off all that bling under the hood.

I had thought of cutting a hole out and bolting in a piece of lexan on it. Kind of like a window of a sub or something, but whatever shape you want it. Lexan is very good for impacts. Just dont know if it will get scratched up over time.

lol, that and i dont have anything worth looking through a hood to see:Banane01:

A show ski?? Sounds like a waste of a good ski to me. I like: build, wreck, repeat.

I love hot rods and show car stuff though. If you want to make something reall y custom, change the lines, and/or reshape the lines that identify it as what it is. I love old school rods with new school styling.

If you want show ski....just check out my blaster. You could lick the engine compartment.

Buahahhaaha!!! I couldn't even type it with a straight face. I almost spewed coffee out my nose.

its all in the details dude,

Colour coding, pissers, bilge fittings, bow eyes, silicone pipe work, cleanleness, hide all the wiring, stainless cap head screws on everything. carbon detail.

Heres some inspiration,

Nice My fellow Brit. You should stick that thing on the boat and come and ride it over here, that thing is good enough for the Riot Build off.
You probably couldn't stand the heat, the water gets so warm it's like riding in a hot bath . Not hot just very warm.( I never thought I would ever complain about the lake being too warm)

LBE modified those wacky lines on his fx1 and smoothed it out quite a bit, most people are surprised when they think they see a 550 towing a superjet in.

Actually funny you mention that, seeing as id already spent £65/ $120 on the ally one i couldnt be arsed to buy another one.

It would look better if it was orange or black... Hmmm, maybe ill have to get another one now

:bs2: Why would you not ride it!!
Paul L rides his buildoff ski on a regular basis and to my knowledge that is a $40000 ski.

Show ski is a loose term, personally if I can't ride it when I'm done it ain't worth a chit.
This is what I would class a show or Buildoff ski

I like the smooth, clean, uncluttered look of a ski. The simpler it is the less can go wrong with it. If I were to do a show ski it would be nice neat and easy to work on. Maybe hide lines to make it look like the motor is not connected to anything, just sitting in the hull. That would be cool.

if i built a show ski i think id want an exotic powerplant in it, something NO ONE else has, there would ahve to be a TON of custom work, but if it was a show ski, then thats what its made for. i think that thread about the artic cat F1000 twin would be cool, or any high-displacment 2-stroke that no one else has ever put in a stand-up. i think that would push the customized level into the untouchable zone

I would love to see a show ski all done up... Clear hood would be off the hook... Chrome pump, and all chrome steering setup... I know where you want to go w/ this Oyster... Carbon skis w/ BLing factor... Laser etched logos and graphics in the pole.... there are millions of cool stuff to do

Hey waste.... there's nothing wrong w/ a show ski bro... it's eye candy, not functional...
